"I could go to North or WCE and be an inside mid. Maybe a star at that. Or I could stay at Melb where I am a star wingman and winning flags. Tough choice ...."

Naughty to use quotation marks here. Who are you quoting? My guess is yourself.

Benjamin Disraeli. Or Mark Twain.

Having Gus sign on for us can’t be underestimated. There are players that are stars that do the impossible and there are players that will do anything for the club and the team. Angus absolutely falls into the last part. He is heart and soul, and he’s bloody good at what he does.

Belonging, success, enjoyment, being a leader all count for a lot. I think he’s Max son George godfather, in Gus & Gawny, will pick up a media gig when he finishes playing!!

While money is important, he will be looked after by Demons, yes could get more somewhere else, but likely having the time of his life at he Demons today. He will stay!

Far too young for them.

Hmmm, Meggs was watching 7 news too.

He also read this in the Mongrel Punt report on our game yesterday:

Angus Brayshaw will be the recruit of the year in 2023. Mark it down now. He has not signed with the Dees and likely won’t, but whoever gets him is getting something special – a bloke who can play anywhere and do it well.

They were into Viney too. He resisted, and won a flag.

BS story. Most clubs will be interested but will stay. No doubt

if yr a club who needs a good inside mid who can play defensive wing but excels as a half back flanker why WOULDN'T you be into gus?

there's about 17 other clubs that should be 'asking the question'

Edited by whatwhat say what

Surely the money Geelong offer wouldn't be much more than what we could if more at all?

Sounds like bs leak to gain a couple of extra dollars from our contact.

Would really miss the Gus n Gawny podcast.  So he had better stay.

Sorry I'm assuming Angus is tossing up between Freo for obvious reasons & us.

I'd be devastated if he left us for another Victorian club.

Cats should have plenty of cap space. Selwood should retire this year.
Aside from Cameron their stars are old

‘Write About Angus’ was the name of the horse that just won the 7th at Bendigo trots. Anyone get on?

Nah was on the fav, which got too far out of its ground. Ran home for a nice 4th, which just rubs it in further as I had a betback applied.

Every club in the AFL should be working hard to see if they can get him. He is a prime candidate in the prime form of his career and is known to be a vision/mission/culture clubman.

Also, footy is his profession, he would be mad not to read carefully every offer put to him by each club and see how it fits into his career which might be over in 7 - 8 years.

But for the life of me I cannot see why you would leave the reigning premiers who are showing they are capable of another one in the current year, for a possible, maybe, or hopefully. I know Buddy did it, but there was the whole hype and public thing which he needed to get away from.

He won’t do it. Not saying he won’t leave, but if he does it won’t be to Geelong.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?

After kicking the first goal of the match the Demons were always playing catch up against the Saints in Alice Spring and could never make the most of their inside 50 entries to wrestle back the lead.
