Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Training Ground?

Finally some movement on the Caulfield front, hopefully this odd chatter about Royal Park and Melbourne University a few pages back can now be covered by a Glen Eira morning fog ... really, that part of inner Northern Melbourne is the domain of another club, what was coming next, a proposal to develop Princes Park?!? 😁

Now, Caulfield certainly can create some synergies for the MRC, the Trust administering the area inside the race track and Melbourne FC. There is clearly enough room there to develop a modern, fit for 21st century purposes training facility for the Demons and now the club is openly discussing it means that negotiations have progressed to a certain stage where the parties think it is doable.

A Feasibility Report does represent a sizeable financial commitment towards the report itself, so you’d have to hope there’s some proper confidence it will proceed.

However I doubt they’ll expect the cost estimates we’ll receive (let alone the actual costs). The club will be basing their own estimates on the cost of Casey which will be outdated & not appropriate. For a similar facility at Caulfield my guess would be in the range of $100-120m.

Not to blow my own trumpet, but a few months before that, I said that Caulfield would happen, after a number of issues like length of lease/licence, community involvement and finance etc, were worked out.

But more importantly than who is breaking the news is of course the news itself.

Go Dees.

The point is around the comms from the club. Very slow and when it comes, clear caveats on why the fans shouldn't need to know.

Thank you for your updates.

Mushrooms. Par for the course with this group. If you think they treat the supporter base with contempt, you should hear how they talk about Casey.

Good Crivens Picket,

I know it’s the festive season but 8:30am in the morning on a Wednesday is a bit early to be on the [censored]. Middle of nowhere. It’s only next to a train station that is a 10 minute trip from the city with 2 lines that junction from there. Next to a university. Five minutes drive from the biggest shopping centre in the country. A few kilometres from the south eastern freeway. It’s in the middle of built up suburbia. Not sure what box it doesn’t tick. I do love your Casey reports and I do quite like the Casey facility but please, “middle of nowhere”. The only thing it would be in the middle of………..is a race track.

Better there than Fisherman's bend or the western suburbs.

It's pretty close to Demon 'Heartland' and it's inner suburbs not out in the sticks like the Hawks with Waverley or Dingley.

I don't know why a feasibility study is necessary......Is Caulfield feasible?   The answer is yes.

If no then we are back to stone motherless nothing again.

Just get on with it.

Caulfield was mooted for development years ago now.  Why hasn't such feasibility been carried out already, and long ago.  It has been claimed that the Board examined every spare/open space in 30 council areas?  That is feasibility and if true has been done.

From 2 years ago:

https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/caulfield-racecourse-unveils-570m-sports-entertainment-precinct-plan-20210413-p57iu8.html

Or is this just another ruse in the lead up to elections?

LOL. At least it wasn’t an announcement on the feasibility of opening a feasibility study.

It could just as easily have been an announcement that the feasibility study into the MCG precinct has now ended with the outcome being that it’s unfeasible.

You may be correct. If its in the middle it would be a disaster, if its at one end or side with separate stands and access it might be fine, but it is still a minor portion of  separate industry site. would need very careful consideration which is indeed part of the feasibility study. Its still early days for the project which has some very attractive features.

I’m a total nuff on this kind of thing. But what exactly does an announcement about the go ahead for a feasibility study mean in real terms? explain it like i’m 5.

Or, explain it in relational terms.  i’m dating someone new. …. where am I at in this relationship?

I suspect the "feasibility study" will justify a decision that's already been made. As a former senior public servant used to say, place your targets after you've seen where the arrows have landed.

To put it in dating parlance, you've already got the girl pregnant so now you're working out how to justify to others the need to get married.

Fishermans Bend is  on the fringe of CBD and a greenfield site. With projections of 80,000 population public transport and road access will be provided to satisfy the development. Theres no station there yet but train, tram,  light rail can all be provided. Theres access from freeways and Port Melbourne access seems effective. Port Melbourne is part of the heritage link, as is the link to the existing Ron Barrassi Snr oval to the west between FB and  Docklands. Theres ample room for all facilities but it does require some bold and imaginative action. MFC has led the way in the past and can continue by reclaiming its place as the Melbourne team located between the Port and the CBD, not suburban linked.

I am curious as to what is "demon heartland" definition. I say we are "Melbourne" and should be aligning and promoting ourselves as such.

Im happy to hear all comments and look forward to more information being provided so an informed decision can be made. The feasibility study is a great process.

Good analogy although i doubt that any pregnancy is possible as the Racing Industry wont want any progeny that isnt in its stable. Again a feasibility statement that provides the detail of the prenup and relationship conditions will be vital.

Agree also with public service advice, but thers not a lot of detail of any arrows fired.

@dpositive Demon heartland is generally considered to be the leafy eastern suburbs, Glen Iris and the like.

If you look at the rail lines on game day, the likes of Alamein & Glen Waverley lines are predominantly Melbourne supporters.

Theres a new cohort coming to FB (80,000 predicted). Many likely to be unaligned new migrants. Plus our eastern suburb demographic may be decreasing with age, and family  recruitment is diffused as housing requirements change. Theres a lot of social change going on and it is important that we as a club acknowledge that. It could be that Caulfield does represent some attraction to Melbourne supportersand could become known as Melbourne centeal.

I dont see the Racing industry giving up the differentiation between the Caulfielld and Melbourne cups and will want to retain that strong marketing identity. We should do the same with Melbourne.

Are you sure about that?  I havent lived in OZ for a while but isnt Caulfield on the fringe of the inner suburbs?  There are loads of Thai students in Melbourne. Many will be at Chisholm campus. Its not in the middle of nowhere.

In racing parlance, I think you are "whipping a dead horse" with your Fishermen's Bend proposal.

If the new club rooms and training ground are not within walking distance of the G please don’t waste time, resource's or our money

Leaving the ground after a win or loss I want a short walk to our club rooms to have quiet or loud beer with my brethren

anything else is a Big NO

Is there a way we can band together and start a gofundme to get you to stop carrying on about Fishermen’s Friends.

The club has a very real thing happening at Caulfield.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
