Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Apologies if it’s been mentioned already, I haven’t seen it listed anywhere until a short time ago. According to an AFL.com article about additional matches in the pre-season I came across this.

- Essendon and Melbourne players not required in the Marsh Series will head to Casey Fields for a practice match on February 21.

ADDITIONAL PRE-SEASON HITOUTS CONFIRMED

Geelong v Collingwood – Thursday February 13 – GMHBA Stadium – TBC
Gold Coast v Brisbane – 7pm, Saturday February 15 – Metricon Stadium – 7pm – 4x25min
Carlton v Collingwood – 4pm, Thursday February 20 – IKON Park – 6x25min
Melbourne v Essendon – Friday February 21 – Casey Fields – TBC
Hawthorn v St Kilda – 5pm, Friday February 28 – Morwell – 4x25min
Adelaide v Port Adelaide – 12pm, Saturday February 29 – Thebarton Oval – 4x25min

We get an earlier look at some of the boys even if it’s only one day.

Imagine if this was last year. Would we even have had any players left over who were not required in the (equivalent of) the Marsh Series? I can imagine a group of players in moon boots and using Zimmer frames just to make up the numbers.

I heard a whisper that we might be playing North Melbourne in a Practice Match at Arden Street in between our two Marsh Series matches.

That would be great. It would bring back vivid memories watching a game there now.

When i was 12 i went to the footy almost every week (the 1979 season) with a mate who barracked for the Roos. We'd alternate dees and roos games so  i saw quite a few games at Arden Street. Players like Shimma, Blight, Greig, Gumblemeton and Nolan stick in my mind.

A couple of years back i stumbled on these two videos from exactly that time (maybe on a tip from someone on here?). Brilliant time capsule and well worth watching. Funny in the context of the planned hell and back videos. I told youss all we are behind the times!

If you only watch a bit of it watch the first 4 -5 minutes of Part 1, which includes Barassi's first speech of the preseason and Mick Nolan's feeble attempt at a push up!

And from 5:54 in Part 2 which is footage of i presume the Roos' first game of the season at Arden St. Barrassi pregame is gold.

@binman who is wearing the Newtown Jets guernsey?

Not sure which one the Newtown Jets jumper is. A player?

If it is the fella standing near barass at the start it is Slug Jordon, i think. A true Victorian sporting legend.

I just googled newton and see who you mean. i'm 90% sure that is Ray 'Slug' Gordon

The worst thing about Arden Street in those days wasn't the cramped conditions, the overflowing urinals, the poor facilities, the over zealous parking officers, the lack of seating nor the partisan crowd.

It was that godawful Courage Breweries product, which sponsored North, and which was the only beer available in the outer.

It was so bad that people were going home sober from a day out at the footy.

One day, a fire broke out in a food stall on the outer wing at Arden Street.  I think this may have been a televised match between North and Collingwood and the incident was captured on that night's TV replay.

A wag in the crowd (OK, my brother) was heard to yell out "Hot Pies!".

I think i can remember drinking large Carlton cans at that ground.....i don't think the Social Club was built then.

I live around the corner from Arden St and it's had quite the make-over since the old days. New training facilities, landscaping, a gym, practice facilities for other sports and the playing surface is in terrific nick. Highly recommend a visit if we do end up playing there. A blast from the past for many of us but without the negatives of yesteryear.

Interesting that the rollover exercise there was part of and commented on as a new routine introduced into our Current training routines.

Arden st. Still a dump I imagine but preferable to a three day trek to the wilds of Casey

As long as there's no elephants being led around the ground, the fans and the players should be safe.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
