I’m looking forward to the melts from Rusty if we don’t pick Young. He’s already penned him into our backline ahead of our best small defender!

Who now doesn't have a spot in the team!

Coz we dont need his elite kicking.

Just one of those players that we never seem to have but other clubs do. His mantra being get ball, kick ball and kill the opponent!

Oh a Demon!

At first I thought Young and Weightman , but now I’m coming around to absolute best available.

Young, Kemp, Serong, Flanders, Weightman in that order.

Green and Kemp with Steven being unlucky. Ruled him out for being a SA boy.  Weightman as a top ten pick, no.

Is that you Goodwin?

Best 22 will look like this

B: Inside mid,  Inside Mid,  Inside Mid

HB: Inside Mid, Inside Mid, Inside Mid

C Inside Mid, Inside Mid, Langdon

R: Gawn, Inside Mid, Inside Mid

HFF: Inside Mid, Inside Mid, Inside Mid

FF: Pick 97, Inside Mid, Inside mid

Cal Thombey has

Green at 3 Best available

Kemp at 8 Best available

I could have done all our  draft picks and delisting on my own for peanuts to what the Club pays in recruiters and meetings.. Agree with them all expect Frostie. Just needed one guy giving me a chop out doing the Langdon and Thomlinson deals

I am starting to wonder if we should take Fisher Macasey and Caleb Serong. MaCasey is a tall forward and Serong is a Midfield/Forward. Wouldn’t those 2 meet our needs best?

Personally, if we're to go by highlights, Dylan Stephens is exactly what our midfields lacks & needs. Speed, class & goals - Fantastic point of difference from the kid.

I've timestamped 3 bits of vision below that have impressed me more so than most highlight packages thus far.

1. @ 1:03

2. @ 2:06

3. @ 2:36

Maybe it's Dylan we're looking to make an early jump on? I hope so.

No best available unless we get s third pick then  small forward or Sokol would be nice

so Young At  3 and Kemp/ Serong / Jackson at next pick and Weightmen/Sokol for last pick.

PSD Reckon Martin/Sam Gray/ Christiansen/ or Walker from Lions fir key forward and defence steadiness depth. Good mark and doesn't panic Could take Oscars place!!

I pointed out in another post that we haven't had a great deal of success with SA players from the SANFL, I notice that Dom Barry was mentioned in that clip as being, perhaps, best on ground.

If I was going for an interstate player, I'd pick one from WA before SA, Jackson looks a gem, as does Robertson, I'd be stoked if we picked either of them with Young.

If we go to the Draft with pick 3 and pick 8 then it’s Young and Kemp that I hope we draft.

However, my dream result which is most likely a pipe dream would be trading pick 3 to Fremantle for pick 7 and pick 10. I think it’s highly likely that Young would be picked with one of the first 6 picks, if not then we would obviously pounce with pick 7. If he has been picked then I would hope that we pick Kemp, Weightman and Gould with picks 7, 8 and 10.

Question is whether Fremantle would even be interested in trading their picks with us and whether they have a target at pick 3 who would be gone by pick 7 which is probably unlikely.

Gut feel is we head to the draft with pick 3 and pick 8.

Love the sound of this.

If we arent picking a player at pick 3 that has  star potential, we may as well throw the pick in the bin.  Too many of the kids projected to go from 3-12 look to be very average, at best they might fill a role in a team if they make the grade.

But pick 3 isnt for role players, its to get a superstar.    Kemp or Serong for me at 3.  Would be a dream to get both (realistically would be Serong 3 and Kemp at 8 )

Serong [3] and Weightman [8], but it won't happen, most likely. Perhaps, Kent as we have a plethora of improving smalls.

Melbourne would benefit most from the speed and polish of Dylan Stephens and secondly from  Weightman who has the attributes of a Brent Harvey.

Importantly, Stephens is senior football hardened and would shine from Round 1.

Young and Stephens by a long, long way...

Dont mind this, young has to be a lock at 3, be way too hard to split it and still  get him so i say no to splitting.

stephens has played senior footy and played good senior footy and has the speed and foot skills to break a game open.(yes im a 3 minute highlight clip expert).

Dare to dream Pick3 Young    Pick8 Stephens/Kemp    PSD2 Jack Martin      Supplementary Rookie : Harley Bennell

Yesterday I had breakfast with a mate that has been part of an AFL club’s recruitment team for 10 years and due to him passing me info prior to the actual Draft, I would rather keep the Club confidential, however, let me assure you that this is one hell of a successful club.

My mate’s role is purely Victorian based and focuses totally on the TAC, no other league.

The bottom line is that he told me this Club had a major meeting last Saturday whereby all the TAC watchers met for a full day and compiled a mock Draft of Victorian TAC players.

Whilst having to be a little guarded at this time of year, my mate told me that at Saturday’s meeting, Hayden Young was the almost totally unanimous choice as number 3 from the TAC. In fact, my mate scoffed at the thought of overlooking Young at 3 even after the interstate kids were factored in

He was very strong in his praise of Kemp but didn’t want to elaborate too much about other players in the 5 to 10 range as this is where his Club would be selecting.

He did however say that neither he or any of his other TAC watchers had Weightman in the first 12 and said he’d be highly surprised if any Club took him in the Top 10 after the interstaters were added in.

Thought you might be interested.

Thanks for the heads up.

Were they the same people by any chance that were unanimous on Toumpas?

We don't have to dream on Young but i assume you are referring to 'the rest'.  Decent mix if we land them.

The alternative is, IF we believe we can get Stephens or Weightman at 10 is a swap with Freo for their 10 & 58.  58 on Pickett, provided we are certain he is going to be there.

Can we split 8!

If dealing with one club only and keeping the picks in the first round then it would have to be for Port’s picks 12 and 18 or Geelong’s picks 14 and 17.

I think we are massive chance to split it with Freo for pick 10 and 22. Id assume we would leave it to the last minute to do deal(provided the player we want are still there)but feel it will work for both clubs. If they want Jackson or Robertson an earlier pick might suit them. Also they might be fearful that us or Carlton might bid on Henry before their bid. Even if neither of us bid on Henry it’s a cert that he will be picked before 22 and Freo will match using pick 22 anyways.

We will get good player at 10 and be able to pick up another player with 22. Could get Stephens or weightman at 10 and maybe Bergman of Taylor at 22.

Also by doing it on the night we can see if there’s a gun we want still available at 8 we just take him.

Win win

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
