My 3 word end of year analysis

Featured Replies

Baker - showed some signs

Brayshaw - a downward spiral

Chandler - not enough evidence

Dunkley - needs significant development

Fritsch - a classy forward

Frost - consistent and passionate

Garlett - didn’t seem interested

Gawn - our singular champion

Hannan - cruelled by injury

Harmes - success as tagger

Hibberd - seemingly rarely fit

Hore - courageous and promising

Hunt - rarely beat opponent

Jetta - never got going

Jones - time has elapsed

Keilty - didn’t show out

Kennedy-Harris - probably exhausted chances

Kolodjashnij - ruined by injury

Lever - will be better

Lewis - professional until end

Lockhart - a bit player

May - will be important

O.McDonald - rarely surprised supporters

T.McDonald - our biggest disappointment

Melksham - best rarely seen

Neal-Bullen - rarely justified selection

Oliver - prolific, rarely outstanding

Petracca - exciting in bursts

Petty - showed some promise

Preuss - rarely justified selection

Salem - disappointing second half

T.Smith - tried but deficient

Spargo - just a schoolboy

Stretch - has exhausted chances

Viney - never got going

C.Wagner - only Casey standard

J. Wagner - like his brother

Weideman - poor before injuries

I find myself disagreeing with your 3 word analysis often - but this one is pretty much spot on.

Great summation Joeboy.  Have enjoyed your work all season - much more than the performance of the team.

Goodwin - clock is ticking

Football department - trade period important

National Draft - need an A-grader

T Mac was very disappointing in the first half of the year but I feel this assessment would’ve been different had he not got injured.

In 2 of the last 3 games he played, he had a direct influence on our wins vs Freo and Carlton and appeared to be on an upward trajectory.

Retired

Lewis & Maynard

Need 5-6 more to go

Garlett - cooked

Hannan - between injured and too big a difference from his very good to awful

J Wagner - tries hard but lacks skill & reading of the game

keilty - good - very good VFL, just not AFL

Hore - very good plus at VFL, under pressure at AFL doesn’t make it, very close, Pies let very few good ones go!

T Smith - almost good enough but 29

C Wagner - VFL very very good, maybe survives as back up!!

There are a few older players who need to hit back next year, such as Hibberd and Jetta. I think Garlett will be gone, and I think Jones will get one more year, but won’t be best 22 imo.

VG but a little tough on Hore. I think he has the desire to work on deficiences.

Only two I have major misginings about getting rid of are Hore and Corey Wagner. oth of them were 1st year players and need a bit of time to develop. Hore did not come back from his injured shoulder real well. Cory shwed a bit of go in the last couple of games , enough to indicate he is picking up the pace. A bit like Lockart and Dunkley. A fair bit of upside from all of them.

I don't always agree with your 3 word analysis JoeBoy, but I do enjoy reading them - thanks!

Nice summary joeboy

Lockhart a bit better than a bit player, I think you’ve nailed the rest

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
