Has retired due to his hip injury

Not many players have the talent to play two professional sports. Unfortunately injury plagued his time in NBL and AFL. Hope his body is kind to him in his retirement.

I watched his first game at Manuka Oval vs GWS. Nearly as cold as tonight's  game there. Maynard got a stack of it.

I remember thinking we had found something.

I remember Plapp's comments after, I think it was a VFL final in 2018, 'the most dominant display of football he's ever seen'.

Shame it didn't work out, hope he sticks around the club.

Hopefully Missons last victim. 

Really gave it his best shot. I wish him well.

Professional athlete in 2 sports. It's a major achievement and something he should be extremely proud of!

He played two more games of AFL than most people and probably all of us.  What might have been?  His debut was good but his body let him down.

Absolutely!  Just a pity his body let him down in the end.  But, still lots to look back on with a smile, one would think.

Absolute cracker from an attitude and work ethic point of view. Not many who transition from other sports have that real old school footy 'bull' intensity, but this bloke was as tough at the footy as it comes. Well done on what you achieved Corey.

’Oh, and yeah, I also played NBL’.

Not one bloke at a pub would patronise that.

On any construction, he should be super proud of himself and his achievements.

Good luck to the guy. Hope his heart continues to beat true after he leaves the club.

If I recall correctly, him and his family were pretty hard core MFC supporters from way back weren't they?

How good would that be for your average supporter to have played even just that one game for the club you grew up barracking for.

My impression is that Corey may not have been the most skilful footballer going around, but perhaps still could have made much more of a contribution at AFL level had he stayed fit.  So frustrating to have yet another potential goer for the MFC town down by injury.

His father Peter played eight games for us in the early 80s so that would make sense.

His Dad played for Melbourne so there’s a good chance you’re correct.’

 

Has he spoken about what his plans are now? I’m almost interested in what players do after football, especially after retiring early.
