It probably helps in increasing lung capacity and help with the players being able to run out games better which is something we need a lot of help with.

The club should do some Mongolian throat singing together to increase their lung capacity. ?

At least it shows that they are still working to fast track performance, through breath hold/lactic acid type exercises.  It may have been a shift up from HIIT type training, to give some variation.  I dont imagine that they would be doing this every week.

2 other points:  Trac was obviously pushing himself, (good thing).  Trac was pulled out safely in an appropriately monitored exercise (also a good thing).

It is just that we are travelling so badly that everything is viewed though the ‘clown school football club lens.  Its a hard job not to....

Thats gotta be the dumbest exercise Ive ever heard of.  Holy [censored].

Was our brilliant head of fitness behind it?

Get that [censored] (Misson) out of the club asap.

You mob are clowns. Half of you have no idea what the benefits of this training are and the other half are too ignorant to care.

Blackouts like this can be common for people who have taken it too far like Trac.

If we 5-1 in the black we’d be applauding him for pushing himself that little bit further.

Peanuts.

Hooray......at last a comment with some sense!

If they were doing this all of last year, which may have been the case, we would be applauding the players, fitness staff & their alternative methods.

Jesus this club is [censored] thick.

Heat training in preseason. (short term benefits only, if at all)

Sleep deprivation military camps. (evidence says you should do the complete opposite)

Brick in bag smash head exercise while sleep deprived. (Surprisingly not good at all)

Drowning excerices leading up to round 7.(New low. Clap. [censored] clap.)

Just don't bother to post again mate.

Such rubbish.

Apart from anything else, this thread just shows how out of touch many here are with the realities of professional sport.

Kudos to him for the donation, sorry for the loss.

Cheers Cards - it happened over 15 years ago now so I'm fairly well adjusted - although, I have to be honest, while I grew up with my step-brother, the pain hasn't been as acute as it has for his full brother - or, I imagine, if it had been my own genetic brother who had perished.

I delivered the eulogy at his funeral - at around the age of twenty - and for the first time recognised that I was coming to know less and less about the world as I aged, contrary to expectations. Affairs weren't getting blacker but more grey. My MFC experience has been the same.

Seriously wtf!

It's like the entire club is trying to force a square plug into a round hole. Don't worry about just going from A to B, when we can visit X Y & Z along the way.

These guys do know that we're meant to be playing footy right?

Now that i think about it thought it makes sense, given that Goody's game plan is sinking (or is that sunk?).

Sunk. For many reasons.

Sounds like he may have had latent hypoxia. Being an ex-navy diver, I can tell you there’s no benefit to this sort of exercise for professional sports players. It was used more so to put trainees under stress.

I agree completely, military style training for any type of athlete is just pure garbage.

Holding your breath out of water can also achieve hypoxia. What’s the benefit of doing it under water?

This season is a tragic chain of diabolical events.

How about we learn to play a decent game plan and spend less time walking with balls underwater.

If we happen to pull off a surprise win in a heavy downpour perhaps this will have contributed. ?

Could be a tactic a bit like @Ethan Tremblaycomment that in the navy they used it to test trainees.

So maybe it was more of a psychological thing to take players out of their comfort zones and be ok to take risks and not play safe.

Also, can we stop with all the snide remarks.  The guy is working hard.  This could have been serious.

Go one better and get this mob for their throat singing and old school fighting lyrics...

"If you come with evil intentions, we'll give you a fight!" was surely written with $cully in mind.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
