Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

I get what you’re tying to stay but all teams have to give players mandatory leave post the end of the year and then usually start preseason the moment that finishes.

So teams finishing earlier without finals obviously start preseason earlier.

One would expect the boys who finish late in September would still be professional enough to look after themselves.

It’s about maintaining conditioning during the off season. Obviously our boys weren’t given strict enough regimes to maintain and when they finally came back they were so far behind the 8 ball.

Hahah what an absolute joke...

3 first round draft picks for May and Lever..

No wonder Gold Coast were laughing to the bank when they got rid of May and KK for pick 6.

Only us.

It would now seem that way. Of course, it could be bad luck. Jetta certainly came off second best early on in the game, but to me, he looked unfit to play the first time he went near it.

He (Jetta) hasn't been right all season, for some reason.

But He would Not have played any games carrying a torn Meniscus.   So that must be a New injury, ontop of his other ailments this season.

Been reported on the Channel 7 pre-game today that May has had a major set back with his groin injury and will most likely not be back till July.

Well what GREAT FRIGGEN VALUE HE HAS BEEN!!!

Diabolical!  The handling of this team pre season is a disgrace!  As a paid up member I am sick of mismanagement of player injuries and fitness. Keep throwing money at the club that is giving nothing in return.  The club is not accountable to its supporters.  Stuff them!!!

Joel Smith being a Prime example! clearly injured in a meaningless JLT Garbage game he was forced to STAY OUT THERE when clearly injured Serious serious questions need to be asked!! Rubbish player management suburban footy stuff really!

Thats spot on  'PF'.

One of the worst decisions I can recall,  sending a player back out injured with a groin injury,  and making it so much worse in a meaningless practice game

Any news on Preuss? Heard his shoulder is giving him issues?

Must admit, at least big Preuss is playing his role. Cant fault his effort the past 2 weeks and someone who we just need to continue to gove games now that our season is shot.

After we get smashed by the Tigers, I would try out all the guys that can cope physically, to see who stays on the list next year.

I would rest all injured players like Tom Mc and put a line through Lever and May and let them be cherry ripe for next year,  after a full pre season.

I would make sure we get a good kid in the mid season draft.

I would chase the best conditioning guy around.

I would look at the assistant coaches and set up deals to get the best available in place for next year.

I would be prepared to delist anyone who is not up to it at season end, even if that number is 12-14 players. Of course the core of good players must be kept.

I would target pace and skill in the draft, a key forward and an extra rookie experienced ruckman as Insurance, and to help Casey in developing their AFL listed players.

I would free up the game style for the rest of the season, playing a more basic game and letting players take the game on.

While not tanking, I would make development, not winning the key.

We have the basis of a good side which needs some consolidation and filling the gaps in a list that is not well balanced.

One bad year is bearable, if the next 5 are successful.

Anyway that’s how I see it now, with the long injury list and poor start to the season.

PS. If we win the next 4 ignore my post, but given our current circumstances that won’t be happening.

Steven May's preparation is clearly an absolute joke. Fingers crossed we have a strong enough culture to carry people like him for the next few years until he sorts his standards out.

Lots of footy to play, but all signs point to this being an unmitigated disaster.

Also, [censored] happens.

If I were Goody I'd be looking, firstly, at bringing Petty into the side.  If May is out long term, and Lever isn't due back for 5-6 at least, then it's time to see if this kid is up to it.  His form hasn't been too bad and he can't do any worse than Oscar has.

Josh Wagner might also get an extended run, while we know Jay Lockhart can play down there as well.

I'm annoyed, but I'd rather look at what we can get out of it than moaning about it.

Petty was killed by the U18s last week. He very much can do worse than Oscar, even on this season's form. You just have to think about his debut. No use bringing the saviour kids in like its 2009 if they can't do a job against underaged opposition.

Be prepared for this comment re: his recruitment to be littered throughout the thread.

While May was unprofessional with the way in which he approached pre-season, and I'm willing to give him a little leeway as he came from the worst club in the comp, we can't judge this deal until he retires.  Moaning about the deal just because it's hit a roadblock early in the piece isn't solving anything.

We know the bloke can play.  If he is part of a premiership side, with Lever right beside him, then I'll be a happy man.  I'm judging it on that.

Hitting a roadblock implies that this was unavoidable. This is more like driving with your phone in one hand, a dart in the other and three kids in the backseat and then wondering why the police have pulled you over.

That hurts. Lynch has hit the ground running. We will see him rip us apart on Wednesday night

Not entirely true. There were question marks over his shape in pre-season as well. Obviously he knuckled down, shut his mouth, and worked his way back into shape.

Our current injury dilemma will be the opportunity for Petty, Kielty and Oskar Baker to break into the side and get a real taste if AFL level footy.

Similarly you would think Jeffy will get a go and young Lockhart who has over delivered from being a total nobody only 5 weeks ago.

We won't win too many games blooding young talent but they may inject the enthusiasm and urgency we so badly lack.

The players expected to return from injury in the back half of the year should not be rushed, as is our tendency to do.

As for the game plan, it is too late to change it now, we recruited for it. However, it should be obvious it needs to be reviewed and enhanced with outside pace seen as important as hard nuts.

Having been here so many times before over the last 50 years plus, l am very disappointed but not destroyed by our current position.

I believe the players the coaches and the admin crew are all fully aware of the damage we have already done to our so called "brand".

We have passed the close enough is good enough mentality of prior decades in my view, this is serious and will be treated as such at all levels.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
