Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

This is what we should do now:

1. Play Petracca full time in the midfield.

2. Move Salem into the midfield.

3. Give Oscar Baker six straight games.

4. Play Petty.

5. Play the Weid at centre half back.

6. Get games into Sparrow.

7. Nurse Lever, KK, and May back into 100 percent fitness. Take it slowly.

8. Give Bedford a run.

9. Move Hunt to the wing.

10. Play Stretch at half back.

11. Jordan Lewis becomes onfield defensive coach.

12. Increase our recruiting personnel in WA and NT in hope we can find replacements for Garlett and Jetta.

13. Play Fritsch on a wing.

15. Sack Troy Chaplin! ?

17. Somehow convince Lachie Whitfield that his future is with the Dee's!

18. Send TMac off to fix his foot immediately.

19. Encourage offers on OMac.

20. Send Frost, Brayshaw, Harmes, J. Wagner, etc to the Aden Yze kicking school!

I like pretty much all of your suggestions d-t. The only change I would make is Hunt to a back pocket where he can run in straight lines and use his speed to move the ball more quickly from defence.

I agree with the revamp but some coaches ( not Goodwin ) have to go. Backline and forward line in particular. There is something wrong there and what it is I don't know.

Agree there seems to be disconnect in all three forward defense and mids.

Assistants  need to go and other Clubs need to be raided especially the successful  Clubs Coaches.

And while we are at it let's get a replacement AFLW coach to teach the girls a game plan that stands up at Casey Fields!

Agree. Richmond 2015 finished 5th (same as us in 2018) although got knocked out finals first round.

2016 finished 13th, and we all know what happened in 2017.

Success doesn’t always happen in a straight line. But I will say, that teams like Richmond and Collingwood had major shake ups of their FD before it all clicked. Same thing needs to happen with us and hence the clean out of some dead wood assistants.

In 2016 Richmond were 1 and 7 after round 8 and ended up with 8 wins for the season. They even lost 4 in a row in 2017, leaving them 4 and 4 after 8 rounds.

Question is how do we replicate that.

Can't see Garlett being here next year.

His contract is up for renewal this year.

Unless he has a very good season we will at best offer him a one year deal. Some other club a la Kent will offer him a longer deal and he will take it.

Interesting suggestion re Zak Jones... What do you think he would bring?

Mate do you even watch some of these players or do you just put their names up for the sake of it? Zac Jones is what you call a typical ball butcher of the highest order. He is not skilled.

Most pretty good. Strongly agree with shipping Omac off but doubt there will be much interest.

I agree Hunt can (and has proved he can be) be a fantastic player for us if played in the right position. His disposal is not accurate enough for back pocket but back flank/wing where he can go on those scything runs then bomb it long to a clear and open forward line is his go. However we need to go out and recruit a genuine gorilla forward who can mark the thing or bring it to ground for that to have any scoreboard impact. Weid ‘ain’t the answer (yet) and TMac works better as the number two. Recruiting priority number one for the MFC is a quality pack busting key tall. (See Jon Patton thread). A replacement for what we lost in Hogan.

Unfortunately it seems that this season is done and dusted, but I still haven't lost hope in the club. We have a great list (though it still can be improved) and I believe in Goodwin. He is learning too through all of this, and there is a pattern with these new coaches. Look at Buckley's first couple of years and Hardwick's as well. Goodwin's first two seasons as coach have been great, and though the start to this season isn't fantastic, it is not a cause for panic.

I know some people don't like looking on the bright side, but this season could be a blessing in disguise. It often happens - happened in 2016 with Richmond and they went on to win the premiership the following year. It happened with Collingwood and then last year they turned it around. Even Geelong back in 2006, the year before their premiership, they missed finals after a promising season in 2005. It happens and sometimes it works out to be the best. Of course there are scenarios where it doesn't, but I feel our list is too good for us to continue on this negative trajectory.

I think teams - especially young ones - always need a dip down the ladder to achieve great success because it shows that no amount of talent can take you all the way without relentless and unwavering hard work. It kills me that this is likely another season down the drain, but long-term, I reckon it could work out for the best and show us the flaws of our game plan, what we need to do and recruit over the offseason, to ultimately give us a genuine shot at the premiership.

Yes, we have been rebuilding for years, but this isn't a rebuild - it is the refining phase and if Goodwin is a good coach, he will know what needs to be done (and his track record over previous preseasons has been pretty good, so I am backing him in). Personally, I think we need to recruit new coaching staff; add some speed to our best 22; and maybe, depending on how the rest of the season progress and we get players back, find a key forward.

Maybe we are bottom of the ladder, but we all know that we are better than that.

I’d play Stretch, Spargo, Sparrow, Keilty, OMac, and Weideman every game for the rest of the season. We need to get games into our young players

I’d get Ratten in to coach the midfield and look for some changes to our assistant coaches.

Petracca cannot be traded

Patton must be chased as should one or two outside mids

playing Jones, Lewis and Frost seems a luxury we can no longer afford

be brave MFC and 2020 might just be a rippa

We've got a strong list,  by no means a great list.    Leigh Matthews Lions list,  2000 - 2004 was a Great List.

That Lions team would castrate us,  and ship us off home... wrapped with a bow.

Why put Frost in with Jones and Lewis? Bizarre. Roost it has “lost it”.

Frost is 25.  Frost has had some good games and just trying to control his timing to run with the footy when possible.  Presents a big athletic key backman.

Agreed. At least Frosty had a serious crack last Wednesday

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
