The negatives.

Sydney are rubbish.

No Preuss no Melbourne and he definitely looks like he’ll miss a few.

The positives.

We won’t go winless this year.

But seriously, Hunt and Petracca were very good, exciting and involved. Jones goal seem to be a release of pressure, we were free flowing after that. You just can’t completely shut out Oliver and Brayshaw.

Overall i I still think we have big issues, especially defensively, but a good win against a [censored] of a team. Hopefully [censored] gets going from here.

Spot on.

What happened in the second half?

The first half sounded like the same leaky defence, the second half they couldn't score.

I need to ask, did not see the game, only listening on the radio. Did they change to man-on-man?

Very happy with the result. Even happier that I could watch a game without a gut-wrenching knot in my stomach due to constant dropped marks and kicking errors. I loved the grunt, the really good pressure, and the team defence. A big shout out to the back six who really stood up.

To poor old Frosty who can do so much right and so much wrong in the same game - he is the one defender who Buudy will not take on to run away from.

A lot to like but an imperfect game. Around the stoppages, Sydney ran and handballed their way around us far too easily for most of the game.

LOVED hearing the team song.

Loved seeing the Wagner brothers able to share it together. Without meaning to be disparaging, they’re both fringe players and you wouldn’t expect that they’ll get to play a huge amount together over time. Must be such a great feeling.

Thought they both play well for a second week in a row too.

Preuss couldn't lift his right arm around his team mate in the song circle

Couldn't sing either. Needs to practice

Corey has a spot in the forward pocket for me. He is one player who rarely fumbles, we need all them that we can get.

To much nervous tension, never felt like we were completely in control and just a bad 5 mins away from having the game taken off us, so ironically I'm not enjoying this moment as much as I would have liked to, but so glad to have finally beaten Sydney.  The Swans have been such a bogy side for us over the last decade, another scap ticked off the list.

Jones, did I hear the word leadership?

Petracca, Hunt, Harmes, Oliver, Viney, Jones, Salem, Bradshaw all huge.

That Brayshaw goal celebration...

Can we get a #YehTheBoyz hashtag going for this year after a few wins?

Still zoned but were able to transition across a lot better to effectively become more like a man on man scenario. The first half they still just ran in waves with no accountability. They worked hard. Not a brilliant display, plenty of errors, but willed themselves over the line. hope it builds belief to go on from here.

Good to win. Hunt Petracca and jones ( after 1/4 time ) were very good. Gawn got back to himself in the last quarter. However we will have to improve a bit more to beat StKilda who are a much better side than Sydney. The swans were pathetic in the second half.

Why was Oscar in the track suit? Obviously was poor but I can’t imagine he’d just be dragged but didn’t see him in the second half.

Unfortunately for him we were better when he was off....

C'mon, Oscar got done by Henney in a marking  contest and scrubbed 1 kick but besides that had a good full backs game. He did his job really well and unless injured his spot in the team won't be in question for next week

3.2 in the second half to Sydney on a small ground, with a makeshift backline... maybe I am being reductionist - but the system works, when the parts of the system work hard... (two way running, yadda yadda yadda)...

Exactly right. Drives me nuts dl posters and so called footy experts in the media saying we need to go man on man.

Goody has his model. We made a prelim with it. We will stick with it. When it works teams struggle, like the swans tonight, to get it passed half way. We strangle them. Relies on but running and that is what we saw tonight

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
