  1. I noticed this during the game as well. I think the umpires were onto it, they paid three or four holding the man decisions at stoppages (note this was not only a center bounce issue). My impression is that the umpires are told to let the game flow rather than paying frees by the letter of the law - they pay a few to try to try to put a stop to it. But really, the opposition know they're only going to pay a few, and they were winning more stoppages with this tactic than giving away free kicks. I was kinda hoping they might put Jackson in the ruck a bit and see whether the tactic changed
  2. Cal Twomey said a couple of weeks ago Pickett would be out in the 30s, he said this week he'd be late teens. Who knows. Fingers crossed I guess
  3. Pretty sure Lockhart set up the play of half back when playing in Tassie. Not sure where he played at Casey, but he has good skills and vision. Long term replacement for Nev?
  4. Port like Stephens from all reports, so can see the trade of 12 and 18 for 10 being on the cards of Stephens is there at 10. Depends how real the reported interest in Weightman is. But Weightman I can imagine being there at 12 and someone like Gould at 18 would be great and fill our needs Edit: I think Serong or Stephens at 10 would be great, am more thinking we could fill 3 needs - tall, forward and back - with Jackson, Weightman, Gould
  5. I don't think there will be a change now until live trading, but depending how the cards fall I can imagine Port trading 12 and 18 for 10 and 28. At 18 maybe Weightman is still there, or Pickett
  6. I'm not a fan of stats, but Champion Data has Green as number 2 (Rowell 1, Anderson 3, Jackson 4). Some are saying that he would be number 1 if he wasn't in NSW. It would be an amazing turn of events if GWS didn't match the bid. Who's to say the bid won't come from GC (though I understand the strategy of Rowell and Anderson being mates) If we bid on Green at 3 and GWS don't match, I won't be crying
  7. Jackson at 3 Trade 8 to Freo for 10 and 22. If they don't accept, bid on Henry at 8. Best small forward in the draft, if Freo don't match we then have two WA boys coming over so hopefully reduces go home factor later If Freo accept the trade, go for Robertson at 10, good ball user I can imagine coming off the half back line (with leadership potential), and same philosophy as above re two WA boys. Then hope Weightman gets through to 22, if not, Pickett
  8. Did I hear right, that Jackson has also played as a genuine midfielder (ie not as a ruckman)? A 199cm midfielder? I like the highlights real and still think he would be a good investment, not sure about No 3 though
  9. Going off highlights packages and what's been written .... I picked Serong ahead of Young (in my mind), based on the fact he is touted as a forward. I think we need forwards, while I think out defense, if we don't have the entire back 6 out injured, looks pretty sound. Obviously that's just an opinion. Just because Young played down back at junior level of course doesn't mean he can't play forward at AFL level. Honestly though, reading and looking at highlights packages, Young, Serong, Ash, Stephens, Flanders, Green, Robertson ... they're all around the mark I would have thought, they're all around the same size, who knows how they will go next year.
  10. If Bradtke can play footy like his Dad played basketball, we're on a winner. Not sure where his development is at. Wasn't really impressed with Preuss last year. Was anyone? I think we gave him a four year contract, need to see whether he improves I guess. Still really like the look of Jackson
  11. Jackson would be a pick for the future, but would also be able to make an impact now. Think Stynes/White combo, the generation would be Gawn/Jackson. I love the prospect
  12. I've voted Serong and Kemp. I think Seeing looks very skillful, makes good decisions under pressure, could be the forward we're looking for to tandem with Lockhart. Kemp is the only real forward I see at the top end and I think we need another option up forward. If we split pick 3 I think Weightman and Jackson look good
  13. I know the draft should be more about talent than moneyball, but we need a small forward, possibly a tall forward, and we will need a backup for Gawn (I'm meaning it takes a while to develop a ruckman, thinking 3-5 years down the track). Small forward - Weightman Ruck - Jackson Tall Forward - Kemp I think these guys would still be around at picks 6, 7, 8 (based on the way people are talking) - so surely talks with Fremantle and GWS would be in full swing to trade pick 3?
  14. We have TMac, but with Frost gone I wonder where he'll play. We have Weid, who I have a lot of faith in, but he's young. We have Tomlinson, who I think could play forward but I understand was brought in to play wing. After that ... Petty? Preuss? They don't look natural forwards to me. If we get Wylie as a Rookie or with pick 97, why not? He may surprise. Injuries tend to happen for big blokes over the first few seasons (how many games did Gawn play in his first few seasons?) Plus, the name rocks
