May and Petty to come in for OMc and Frost.

I'd like Keilty to come in, to chopout Maxy, and can play fore and aft...  or from the pine.   Not sure who would be the out for Keilty ?

TMc could push up around the wing, if necessary.

I don't want Weide out of the side.

Exactly. I will go down to Casey to have a look.

If this is true, how is he going to play again?  This is terrible news for him and the team.

If true it's not good.

But nothing has been confirmed by the club, so at this stage it's just hearsay.

The sooner Bedford or Chandler show that they're ready for a call up the better.

We need the pressure and zip provided by those types of players.  If they're good enough, of course.

One of OMac and Frost goes for May. I vote Frost, but I don't care too much because they're both awful.

If Lewis is fit he comes back in for Hore, but I don't know if Lewis will be fit. I'd probably drop Hore anyway. Would love KK to be fit.

If Viney's genuinely not fit then he should stand up as a captain and declare it, and make way for someone else. Who? I'm not sure. There's not a lot to get excited about at Casey tbh.

Spargo deseves to be dropped but who replaces him?

We need to try out Preuss. Stanley beat Gawn once last year and did well against Grundy last night. I'm worried he and Ratugolea will get physical with Gawn again and he'll struggle.

Expand

I agree with most of this.

Frost should be dropped for the 50 he gave away after the 2nd headless chook run where he got caught then booted the ball away.

Up there with Fitz's Tunnelball.

We are still in transition List wise, even while making finals games.   And we have been making the right list decisions, in past few years. watta hoges etc.

Our old stalwart leaders, are getting older, and our younger brigade leaders now in the mid 20's,  are hardening up... TMc etc.Its still premature to say Jones isn't best 22... he's ahead of stretch.

Who else  at this stage from Casey, removes Jones from the 22 ?

I remember listening last year (early) and the commentators were saying Melbourne had trouble playing the MCG, because of its width ( and our incapacity to run when off the ball). We seemed to correct that pretty quickly, so it may be an attitudinal issue rather than slackness.

Confidence is a big thing and when down players go to the ball and not the "position". Consequently when it breaks into the open we have 3 or 4 around the ball (or where it was) and nobody in position to counter the break.  That was exactly what happened yesterday ( and @ WC last season)

So all is not lost. Again I will defend our defence because the ball was coming in with options available and our blokes still up the ground wondering where the ball went. Our defence in very vulnerable to poor defencive positioning and impact by the Fwds and Midfielders

Outs: Frost, Hore, Spargs

Ins: May, Lewis, K.K (if fit)

don't think we need Preussy against Geelong, Maxy will have the Geelong ruck department handled.

want to see a big lift from Hunt, Weids, Corey Wagner or else they will be straight out when others return.

I thought Lewis tweaked a hamstring, so won’t be ready. Unless K.K stars in VFL would rather see him play a couple of VFL games so he is really ready. Jones, Viney looked short of a gallop and Melksham ran out of puff, don’t want KK doing the same.

Agree Horne out and May in. Perhaps Frost or O Mac out and Preuss in to support Max and bring in some strength.

Not sure answer re more speed, just the team playing better makes a big difference. Hopefully bit of a reality shock will help make players more accountable!

Can also see why FD wanted JSmith in forward line, speed and pressure on opposing backs running the ball out of the backline.

Out: Hore & Frost

In: May & Preuss (not sure why we let Port push us around yesterday, but these two will help)

May will definitely come in probably at the expense of Frost or Hore.  I think it's extremely unlikely KK will come in after a significant injury and only one run in the reserves.

It's hard to see too many other changes being made unless they decide to bring in Preuss or Keilty to give Max a chop out as he looked well below his best yesterday.  It may be an option with the smaller/narrower ground at Geelong.

out -O.Mac, Frost, Viney

in- May, Petty, Preuss

OMac and Frost were pretty woeful at times. both don't deserve to play next week. May for Oscar and we may as well bring in Petty while we're at it. surely Petty has more upside than either of those two, who continue to make the most basic errors every week. I just cant see the point of playing them if we don't have to.

I also think this could be one of those games where we can play Preuss to help out and protect Max a bit. we should be able to get away with playing 2 ruckmen on the skinny Geelong ground, where it will be more congested and contested game style you'd think.

Vineys obviously not fit enough. leave him out until he is, otherwise he's a liability. would like to see other changes to the midfield but the reality is we already have our best guys in there, they just need to lift and work a lot harder defensively.

If vandenBerg is out for the season then suddenly the loss of Kent hurts even more.

Bit early to judge but from one game against the Suns I think we can cover Kent's 8 disposals, 6 clangers, 6 pressure acts, 3 tackles and nailing a bit of a flukey set shot to win the game. Sparrow and Wagner did more than that against a better opponent.

We need a crumber and we need some depth on the wing. Kent promised both was never either of those.

Jones performance in yesterdays last 1/4 put him not in the best 32? Let alone 22. The game was still up for grabs at the time the ball came in board to him.

I'm very concerned.

Doesn’t sound like many impressed in the practice match. Can’t undertand how people would suggest Petty is ready again.. he’s still 12 months off.

Keilty is one I would consider if it’s going to be dry.

In: May, Keilty

Out: Hore, Oscar

———

FB: Jetta - May (Hawkins) - Hibberd

HF: Salem - Frost (Rata)  - Hunt

C : Fristch - Oliver - Jones

HF: Trac - Weid - Melk

FF: Spargo - T-Mac - Keilty

R: Gawn - Brayshaw - Harmes (Danger)

I: Viney (Selwood) - ANB - Wagner - Sparrow

Frost is a headless chock no doubt. But for those citing the holding the ball and subsequent 50m incident - the game was slipping away, no one was spreading, and Sam was trying to do something, anything, using his primary weapon which I'm sure the coaches would encourage him to use. The 50m penalty was frustration.

Unfortunately, Sam isn't the brightest of footballers, but I don't see anywhere near that level of interest from Omac, who seems mostly like he just wants to go unnoticed. His inability or lack of nous to kill the ball in dangerous situations is astonishing. I'm no psychologist, but it's as if he lacks the competitiveness or confidence to feel shame when his opposition number scores.

I think Frost will be better than Omac in the secondary role alongside May. Over to you Binman.

Thus;

OUT: Omac/Hoare (and Spargo)

IN: May/Keilty (for another small forward option, whoever)

Note: I'm not blaming the defenders for the loss. The output from our entire midfield brigade was down a mile. Simply can't win games when that's the case. In fact, we did well to stay so close.

Not sure why some are calling for Wagner to be dropped, I thought he was far from our worst yesterday 14 disposals, 4 tackles, (a couple ripper ones too). I think some here have prejudices before the ball is even bounced. Also I saw Trac, on the half forward flank, chase, and tackle 3 times in one great effort on the HFF, I'm staying positive, horrible day yesterday, move on.

Agree, and they’re an interesting pair. As I posted in the Casey thread they have some nice attributes, incl. competitiveness, skills and speed (esp Bedford).  Looking forward to watching their development, and they will bring some needed qualities if they can proof up at AFL level.

I don't get why so people on this forum go on about a lack of pace and are then so quick to say - drop Frosty.  He's one of the quickest players in the league and when he gets up and going, uses it to great effect.  I also agree with your assessment of the compeditive nature of Frost Vs Oscar. Frost didn't play a great game for us yesterday, but few did.

I'm still fairly baffled how Hore is getting a game over Petty at the moment.  Petty has looked far better than Hore so far this year to me.

I'm tipping Max won't get dominanted like that too often and that will change the dynamic significantly.

Apart from May, I can't see us making many unforced changes.

Agree.  I thought Wags was actually one of our better players.  Also thought Nathan Jones was ok, with the exception of that dropped mark.

No way Goodwin is dropping both Oscar and Frost in the same week as some are suggesting.  I'm tipping very few changes to keep some team stability.  Will certainly be some interesting reviews, but then they challenge will be laid down to respond and I recon we will.
