Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Went down to training and very pleased to report no new injuries!

Preuss was doing a lot of work with the mids and I would suggest he is in strong consideration for Saturdays game. Didn't look hindered and trained the whole session.

Players "next in line"

KK. He was in the midfield group and another who trained the whole session and looked good. They trialled him on the wing in their midfield "plays". Really think he can add something when he is right to go.

Baker. Another who they trialled on the wing in the midfield plays. Looking forward to a good year from him, he is another who has a lot of upside and is close to selection

Sparrow. Last time I went along to training I wondered what all the fuss was about with him but after a taste in the pre-season you can see he has come along very nicely in the last few weeks. They have him in the middle mixing with Oliver, Gus, Viney and the likes and he looks like he will be equally as good in a year or two. He finished off slamming goals from outside 50. Massive boot, he looks the goods.

Watched Gus for a while and if he was a racehorse you would say he is a lazy track-worker, he rarely stands out and as some of the young guns want to show off and impress and have a laugh Gus was just doing what he had to to get through. I think he might have his sights firmly set on Saturday.

Melksham looked tired. Really wanted to see him as he is so important to us but he didn't overly involve himself. Don't know why and I'm sure it was nothing but I hope he fires up on Saturday.

He's got a 5 week old baby at home. I don't need to look any further for a reason.

Melksham was probably  cross eyed from the nappies.

I'd take the punt with Preuss and play him, considering we got him over to assist Gawn when he's up against twin towers (ie- Ryder and Lycett)

Can't see Ryder playing - can't see what Preuss brings to the table based on form to date

Preuss won't be selected.  If they were going to play Gawn and Preuss they would have trialed it in the JLT.

The fact that he was training with the mids is irrelevant.  What else do you expect him to do at training ?

All about balance, Preuss will not add any ground speed thats for sure.

Can't see him playing but there is going to be an amount of experimentation in the early part of the season, so you never know.

Poor effort by the medical/coaching team to leave him on the ground in a practice match, we could have played one short for part of a practice match now we don't have him available for 6 weeks!

Or an informed effort by the medical/coaching team in place who assessed that leaving him on the ground wasn't going to add to the recovery time he would have needed in any case.

Was it poor to leave Smith on when he'd clearly injured his groin ?  Sure.

Would he have most likely have missed games even if he didn't come back on ?  By the way he was hobbling I suspect it wouldn't have mattered much.

Of course it wouldn't have mattered much. The damage was already done.

Sorry, but unless they had an MRI at Casey the doctors have no idea of the damage.  Preuss looked worse than Smith at the time.  He’s ready for round 1.

Have the utmost respect for the professionalism of MFC these days but not on this occasion.

I agree with the sentiment that it seems poor management to have kept him on the field, but would most people have him in their Round 1 side if fit? I'm not sure if he gets in ahead of T Mac, Weideman, Melksham, Petracca, Spargo, ANB and Hunt. And I can't see us playing an eighth forward. The last three I've listed would be playing a different role, so the real question is whether he'd be playing instead of one of the first four named (I would have thought not) or whether one of those four plays elsewhere (possible, if Petracca plays more of a mid-field role). In short, I'm not convinced he would have been picked this week anyway.

And I forgot about Fritsch. If he's playing forward, there's even less room for Smith (and probably Hunt)

In answer to your first question - yes! The kid has talent, he has all the required tools but just can’t get an extended crack at it. Leaving him out there might not have changed the injury outcome but it is odd given that players are instructed to report the slightest niggle at training and they are usually off immediately to the rehab room but not in a JLT??

My kids were wearing nappies when they ran out on the ground, they were that young. No one got near "em.

Couple of nice moments from the potential debutante in Hore. Knows when to engage and when to stay on the ground level to crumb.

Hunt definitely looks to be playing forward.

Meanwhile, Clarry sets up Petracca with a lace out pass. Trac misses the set shot.

Won’t get a game for us then, he must jump for every contest with our other 3-4 players in the area. No smart crumbers at MFC, thank you very much. ??

Last weather report suggest 29c with light rain and possible thunder storm.

Gonna be a greasy pill.

I'm curious. If Smith were picked, who would miss out from the players I've listed?

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
