My name is Dieter because it rhymes with Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater, a rhyme my second ex-wife turned into Lady Eater.

And because there is absolutely no Demon player ever called Dieter. Big Carl came close. And the Demon  Krauts could have been named more imaginatively: Obst, Schwartz, Neitz, Mueller, Fritsch, Ditterich, Mann.

Just imagine Dieter Ditterich, Dieter Schwartz, Dieter Nietz, ah the list is endless.

My name is from “Central Business District Demons” (Dees). It was the name adopted by a short-lived luncheon group of Demon supporters who belonged to one of the four CBD Clubs. ??

Thanks for explaining that WYLB. I always imagined it was because of your proximity to Ripponlea and your distinguished service to the ABC !

Simple homage to those wonderful “MCC Match Day” officials - the “Blue Coats” in another time. No matter how hard you would argue at the gate that your dress was appropriate, the stock response was always “call them what you will sir, those shoes are ‘runners’ or those trousers are ‘jeans’.” The Cleese “Upper Class Twit” imagery goes without saying.

When I was younger, I was a fanatical sailboarder. We went every opportunity.  After years of trudging my trade along The Great Ocean Road, I announced I refuse to go until the top temperature was 17deg.

I chose my name during the period when there were more frequent October Grand Finals. Now I think of it as, if I'm still celebrating in October, it's a good year for the Dees.

Nothing 'creative' from me.  I'm just you're average 'Joe in the street', who loves our Club with all his heart, is lucky enough to have witnessed quite a few Flags, and who wants to witness at least one more before the final siren sounds.  That's my Monika, and I'm proud of it!

Hunter S Thompson is one of my favourite writers and Dr Gonzo is an alias he uses for his friend/attorney Oscar Zeta Acosta in Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas.

As the originator of Gonzo journalism one of my favourite quotes of HST's is "buy the ticket, take the ride" which is what it's like to follow this club. In it to the death for better or worse. I love the way he communicates a seriousness/truth shrouded in nonsense/surrealism in his writings

On BigFooty my username is Demonic Ascent chosen in 2006 when I thought we were about to experience the Ascent of the Demons - I was a little off on that one....

Fork 'em cause I hate every other club out there.
I think we were also getting screwed by the AFL in regards to tanking at the time.
Something half a dozen other clubs had done before us.

I could have thought it was a reference to that guy Martin that use to play for us back in the 90s.  Fairly handy player the old Pike and has a nice little collection of premiership medallions to prove it too.

Must have been a great group with some fantastic lunch options/memories. Had a similar one going years ago, in Melbourne, amongst a group of professional associates and boy, did we look forward to these little sojourns! We had a rule: The best lunches in Melb were south and east of the Yarra River, and the best beers were in Richmond.

Used to be an avid LAN session gamer and one day stuffing around with a mate I accidentally clocked him on the head with a Screwdriver, (Red handled, Flat Head,.... the screwdriver, not my friend!) and as a result of him saying 'Ouch....' I took on the moniker of Oucher.

.....If I'm being truthful he swore at me, but I couldn't be known as the f**ker!

Anyway, after a name reboot here a few years ago, I shortened it to Ouch! for the boards.

Avatar is Hot Stuff, old school comic character!

In all honesty I picked my stage name before I realized that such direct reference to former players wasn't exactly the done thing on Demonland.

But that all said, this bloke was pretty much my favorite player as a kid and an absolute bloody legend of the MFC, so I'm sticking to it.

News to me too - wasn't in the signing up instructions. Tony was my hero when I first attended the G in the 60's.

Wanted to reinforce my past, present and future aspirations for the club, players and Dland .

I was a slow contributor to Dland having followed for many years

Just a derivation from my initials. Was sadly lacking in imagination at the time.

Avatar was from a gift shop in Beechworth. Although it looks like a homage to Freddie Mercury, it’s just a phrenology bust with lots of positive affirmations on it.

Coincidentally a double acronym:

  • This is Melbourne (in English)
  • Want a Flag (in Transylvanian).

Obvious, really.

You're not a sorcerer?

Mine began with The Greatest American Hero whose title character was named Ralph Hinkley.  Through many years of message boards, games and chats the name evolved due to other members having already claimed the name Ralph, until the current version came into existence.

I loved the way he played as well. Now there was a half back line: Anderson, Roet, Leahy.

Mine started of when I was rudely called a name by another poster, (started with the letters) 'de"...

So I started to think about avatar names and images, and thought I would mispell the word as an Avatar name.  And so started off the 'Dee' prefix on Demonland...

I was also the author of the "Dees"... back in the mid 90's against the Blues at the 'G'.    "Go Dees".  Schwarta tore the blues a new hole in that 2nd half,  to cut them up.

Demonland requested a user name so I just went with defuture

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
