Injury List - Season 2019

Featured Replies

far out, still 9 best 22 players out.  realistically only Viney and Pruess back before the bye.

Smith, Jetta and Vanders probably done for the year.

no wonder May is hitting the schnapps

yeah, that's last week

fwiw, the age whisper boys said last week that walker is completely cactus and working in the membership dept - given that we're about to hit 50k, he's clearly doing a good job!

Any news on Garlett? Hammy (as reported this morning on SEN) or corkie?

WTF i hope not

The club's injury report is finally looking a little bit encouraging.

Garlett received a corky but will be able to line up. Preuss to be tested and another 4 or 5 coming back over the next 3 weeks.

Garlett - Hamstring - Available

Tim Smith - Back - Available

Preuss - Shoulder - Test

Viney - Shoulder - 1 week

May - Groin - 3-4 weeks

Lever - Knee - 1 week

Hannan - Knee - 2 weeks

JKH - Knee - 2 weeks

Maynard - Hip - 1 week

AVB - Foot - 6-8 weeks

Joel Smith - Groin - 6-8 weeks

KK - Concussion - TBA

Good to see Lever is almost set for a return, there’s no point in rushing him so I would be giving him half a game at the VFL reserves then up his game time in VFLseniors and assess if match fitness wise when he’s ready.

Pruess is a chance, but I’m not sure if the Suns are a team we would bring him in for.

Yeah heard this on SEN too

Lever playing vfl next week! Woohoo!!

Joel Smith situation is tragic.  Wtf did he continue playing.  Now missed 9 weeks and likely another 6-8 (probably a guess) weeks.  That’s the year with a groin!!!

Vandenburg. Also gone for the year.  Another 6-8 weeks is a guess. Wtf

Both were 2-3 weeks in the round 1 injury preview. Ridiculous.  Wtf

Lever says May is running and joining the main group next week.  Gawn says in radio interview that he is not running and faces a further extended delay and will be out for further 7-8 weeks.  Wtf

kk was a huge risk as he had concussion history.  It was reported as being misdiagnosed as a neck complaint. Now he is indefinite still. Wtf

Wtf is my summary on weekly injury report.

Some reinforcements not too far away if we could possibly hold it together for 3 more weeks...

Agree. Win 2 out of next 3 (or all 3 ) then our troops start dripping back in and all our opponents will be worried. Still a sneaky chance of finishing in 8 and boy if that happens then look out.

I'm not convinced he'll be OK,  but I feel certain he will return soon.

Goody said,  or was it mr Misson,  that he will need to be monitored in future,  and most likely his loads managed, looking forward.

.... load management ..... is Misson moonlighting from a logistics firm?

And KK? The silence is deafening.A week off has now become five.

It seems that concussion is the most difficult injury to classify by number of weeks. I imagine it is virtually impossible to put a reliable timeline on it.

Injury List: Round 8

Jeff Garlett (hamstring) – Available
Tim Smith (back) – Available
Braydon Preuss (shoulder) – Test
Corey Maynard (hip) – 1 week
Jack Viney (shoulder) – 1 week
Sam Weideman (soreness) – 1 week
Steven May (groin) – 3-4 weeks
Jake Lever (knee) – 1 week
Mitch Hannan (knee) – 2 weeks
Jay Kennedy Harris (knee) – 2 weeks
Joel Smith (groin) – 6-8 weeks
Aaron vandenBerg (foot) – 6-8 weeks
Neville Jetta (knee) – 10-12 weeks
Kade Kolodjashnij (concussion) – TBA
Guy Walker (shoulder) – Indefinite
Aaron Nietschke (knee) – Season

Latest word on Weideman is that he is likely to miss a week.

Weideman plays a decent game albeit at Casey and has soreness.

One has to just laugh... this season is getting better by the week.

The table below was posted on bigfooty by 'Djcjdees'.

I like the table as it shows how the no of weeks has changed for the last month.  Some times have improved and some have worsened, in particular Joel Smith (subject of another thread) and Jetta (who also should not have played out the game after being injured early in the game).

Also, that KK is continually listed as TBC and AVB has now been TBC for a few weeks is worrying.

Unbelievable although it has now become believable.

However, only a small number of the group are top players or automatic selections.

The rest are struggling, what we would call fringe or depth.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
