When they played the national anthem, the Melbourne players and their coach stood as one with arms interlocked while their Geelong counterparts stood as individuals.

It’s all about the team and not individuals and our boys played like a team all night - the others played for themselves as exemplified by their captain’s tantramous exit onto the interchange bench in the third quarter when he robbed his team of a certain goal at a crucial time in the game.

    An old friend who barracks for the dogs 

    sent a text about half way through last quarter

    ”time to start singing “ a clearer head than mine could see the result.

    I needed one more goal. Only 10 minutes left  they needed to kick same score they had all night  would not happen,

    bring on the Wees n poos 

    Go Dees !!

    I thought we were going to win when the crowd behind me in the Olympic stand sung the song eith 2 minutes to go. Loved it.

    Ditto - we said the same about their pathetic attempt to out-psych us during the anthem

    Well now they have 6 months to practice some 'esprit de corps'!

    I also thought we stood united and would win when I saw our boys with arms linked and Geelong standing half a metre apart for the national anthem.

    But the moment of really believing was when Hannan waltzed into goal and Jones kicked a ripper.  The guy behind me kindly said to relax and remember to breathe!

    Bit rich telling Geelong FC how to stand...how many finals have they played since us?

    Cue Mitch Hannan, Titanic moment? That was the equivalent to the Kent goal against West Coast for me, where the lid blew off. Happy times.

    He’s not telling Geelong anything but rather, what he perceived at the time which was the togetherness of one team and the cockiness of the other. Forget how many they have “played since us”. Think about how many each of them will play in the future.

    This. We were all over them and they were already starting to panic. It was chaos ball which we do much better than them.

    It was the equivalent of the Watts goal on Queen’s Birthday last year.

    I really thought it was strange they didn't lock arms considering the [censored] about Adelaide last year.

    If i'm honest i was confident from the get go. We looked harder, faster and stronger. Oliver running through Selwood was the moment when i thought yeah we ain't losing. Classic Melbourne sets in and we don't put them away and i was a tad nervous. Then Viney killed Selwood with that tackle i had a good laugh. When Weid kicked his 3rd i went to the family room to celebrate. Then the cats kick the next two in a minute and i run to my room and pray to god to reverse the jinx i set upon us.

    i noticed this too and it gave a me a feeling that we had this 

    of course that was after a Seagull shat on me while i was sitting in my seat 

    and would you believe the seats we had , was right next to the last game I took my wife and kids altogether as a family before she passed and we all watched melbourne win. So yea I knew we would win . well still very nervous , but I knew someone was watching us 

    not that i believe ion anything like that , but too many things happened last night to say we would

    This photo has the colouring of a photo taken in the late 1950s. If I'd seen the photo at the time it was taken, I would have said I knew then we were going to win just because of that.

    dont think it says anything really, correlation not equalling cause n all - having said that i reckon the only person trying to psych out our players was Chris Tott who had a face on him like a baboons arse

      There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.
