Wouldn't that be wonderfully, typically, shitfully Melbourne?

First final in 12 years and we'd have to travel to [censored] city to watch it!

And they’d be lucky to get 10K to it.

Plenty of free over the counter tickets given away at McDonalds for the locals to fatten up the crowd.

A week ago we played the second top team, in a hostile environment, and convincingly won a high pressure / high stakes ‘finals type' game.  If we produce the same form, composure and ‘never-say-die’ attitude at the G today, we will win again.  I think we will do exactly that, and step into September in top form and with the self-belief to play all-comers anywhere.  Get it done Dees!!

Any truth to the rumour of JFK in for Hannan per another thread?

Apparently Hannan was in the injured group yesterday at training.

I believe he received a severe injury sometime in 1963 .

He's still very unlikely to get up for this game so Hannan is probably the more likely proposition.

This game is a stepping stone into  building  a great culture and a great football club. Looking forward to today's game and the rest of the finals that we participate in. I think we are building something special. We can dream on.

Can't wait to see how we play without the pressure of having to make finals. I'd like to think that frees us up to play at our best and I would love to see us flex our muscles before the finals.

I'd also like to think there's a degree of extra motivation the players get knowing that if we win we get another crack at Geelong.

GWS were the big beneficiaries of last night, as they’re now guaranteed not to travel week 1.

If they win they’ll play us at Spotless

If they lose they’ll play Sydney at the SCG.

I wonder if that changes their approach in any way - ie resting a sore Phil Davis.

Can’t wait to the reception when we run out today.

No chance IMO.

They have the chance to perfect their game on the G (first game here in five months) and if they win, they get to play us again in two weeks with a stronger side at their home ground.

The answer is simple for todays game. Win we play at home away, lose and we play in shydney. Simple really.

this year we have played better on the road. plus our mcg record is weak this year. so, shitney it is

I love this board when the dees are up and about. There’s some genuine comedy too (hopefully JKH in for Hannan is in this bracket).

The undercurrent of confidence is still a bit foreign to me.

Perfect example of the classic 4-6 decade injury.

Let’s enjoy the moment while it’s here. We can remember for a brief second we’re all in the same tortured demon family.  I honestly doubt we can get there this year but how good is it to be in the hunt for the big one  in a genuine way?!!  The fuse has been lit. We take GWS today. Big massively pro dee crowd ... players pumped. Dees by 6 goals.

It is a day for our younger players. They can play a more natural game without the implied anxieties from having high consequences if we lose. Weids to get more than 5 marks and show his straight kicking style. Fritsch and Spargo to find lots of the football by getting off their opponents. I also think vanders and Kenty will set themselves up well for finals with hard tackles and contested football.
Would love to see us get some good rebound goals from off the half back. Frosty to have his best game, Hibbs to read everything.
Hopefully Goodwin produces structures that controls the momentum, causes them to turn it over and keeps the GWS to less then 10 goals. Would hate to see a shoot out. We need intensity and high pressure football that we can take into the final series. Hoping for no injuries and Petracca to kick goals from his set shots.

Huge day. Beautiful day weather wise. I hope we can build today on last weeks great win and the excitement of playing finals.

So important to win, we need a home final.

Supporters will be out in force today. Will definitely be making noise.

Come on melbourne do it.

I’m excited for today.

I wonder if winning last week and releasing the pressure will see us play free flowing attacking footy, which is what we do best. Or whether we will retreat back into our shells because “we made finals already”.

Alright pretty excited about today! Pressure valve released and now we know what we are capable of. Don’t want to get too stressed out about it but it would be very good to win.

Anyone else doing the members walk around the boundary?

I’m doing the traditional walk around the Frank Grey Smith bar in the MCC. Going to be a great occasion.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int

    POSTGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood

The Dees played insipid, error riddled & uninspiring footy all night and in a lightning delayed match they eventually succumbed to Collingwood by 46 points at the MCG in the final game of the year. Thank God this season is finally over. Bring on 2025.

    LAST DANCE by The Oracle

Forget the wishful thinking from Magpie fans who think their team can perform yet another miracle and somehow snatch a place in the 2024 finals series when their team takes on the Demons at the MCG on Friday night. It ain’t gunna happen. They can whistle Dixie through their non-existent front teeth but the fact of the matter is that both teams have run their race. The game is a dead rubber — for each of them, this will be the last dance of the season.  And given the history between the two

    RED FACED by Whispering Jack

The wind and the hot unseasonable temperatures together with lights turned on mid game at People First Stadium conspired to leave many Suns players and supporters red faced and gasping for air as the Demons proved a number of points on their way to a nine goal triumph on Saturday afternoon in the Carrara sunshine. Melbourne is the only non-Queensland team to taste victory at this venue in 2024. This surely leaves a number of journalists and media mavens red faced after they rushed to pass
