Disappointing that this thread has so few responses to this point.  Practically every Demonland member that logs on over the next couple of days should be adding their respects to this bloke, whom in my veiw should go down as one of the top MFC players of his generation along with Nathan Jones in terms of what he has contributed to the club.

Whilst his spot in the team in the twilight of his career may has been questioned by many on this forum, I recon that should we make finals, Bernie should be one of the first picked.  Not just for sentimental reasons either, the hardness straight line approach at the footy is just the kind of leadership we will need amongst a team of younger talent.  I'd throw him into the guts at the first bounce with Oliver and Brawshaw to set the tone of the game for us and put the opposition right in their place.

Congratulations Bernie on 100 great games for the MFC and being such a bloody top bloke.

Would likely choose Crows, his kids...unless we win a flag while he's playing.

Has a real estate agency in Melbourne so wonder if he will stick around he after he retires?

IMO is having his second best season after his B&F season. Been consistently reliable and accountable in defense. Had an up and down season last year but has found a new role this year.

If he's still in Melb & had kids y would they go 2 Adelaide

Thanks for your service Bernie.

Came to us when nobody in their right minds should have bothered, and played hard, tough footy, just when we needed it.

Gave the kids someone to look up to, and you should be rightly proud of a great career.

Always a favourite here as well. Loved his comment post match when he played against Essendon in the VFL. Said he would bust his backside to get back in the team. Would love to see him in a final with his competitive nature.

Had the vicarious pleasure of sitting near Neville Jetta and his family at a VFL match when Bernie came over and started chatting to the children. He was obviously popular with Nev's children and struck me as a lovely person.

Congrats Bernie and thanks for the wonderful contribution to the MFC.

Congrats on 100 for the Dees. Given great service on and off the field. Saw him at the Duke with Roos one evening, seemed like a ripping bloke!

Love that Bernie has hit the 100 with us. He's tapering off now, but was a great get for us and I've really enjoyed seeing him in the red and blue.

I posted a congrats above to Bernie as I ( among many others) really enjoyed his niggling, his good footy and his enthusiasm.

I don't like to write the obituary too soon but sadly I think his 100th  will be his last game for the Dees.

If Hunt goes  ok and Hibbert is nearly right I will be very difficult for Bernie to get back. Add to that he is 33 I believe and  out of contract.

It will be another one of sport's cruelties if Melbourne plays finals and Bernie is forced to spectate.

Bernie is a good old fashioned scrapper. He is not out of place playing with Andrew Macleod and Byron Pickett. He is an extremely talented player who has had a great career. He may still play a little longer.

There's plenty of bite in the old dog yet... a 'must' for finals! I love the cheeky grin, the take no prisoners attack on the ball and the smarts in the contest. A great recruiting coup by those concerned... can only hope he lands a key off-ground role with the club when he hangs them up!

Might have played his last game for the club and his career obit can come later, but he has been fantastic for this club and I hope he can play a part in a successful September - I just thinks it’s unlikely.

I’ve loved him at the MFC (but maybe not as much as he loves himself).

Sadly it looks like his time is quickly coming to an end. It’s the decline in agility that takes the hardest toll.

Love what Bernie has contributed to the club, but I did notice he struggled to contest the high ball with the lack of spring and also a bit slow to defend the players with excellent agility (both never strong suits of his, but I think he's fallen away even more this season).

With the added intensity of finals I think he may struggle more, which is a shame given the experience and stability he would provide

No, theres not much left.

Some spud named Alex Sexton made him look silly last week and turned him inside out far too easily.

If we're to go deep in Finals, Bernie in my opinion will get found put for his pace down back. His skills have rapidly dropped down and just picks up easy touches from kicking put.

Bernie in my eyes will go down as a MFC great. Came to the club at ots lowest point and has provided leadership and lockeroom maturity.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
