Couldn't agree more. Trac has to go and Tyson also plus I think where ever they found Petty from they need to send him back. Just not a AFL player. There won't be major changes as Goodwin is just as dumb as our players but ANB, Hannan, Smith plus plenty others will be lucky to stay in.

Really? You can see that in a teenager playing his first game? Mate, you must be a genius. Or something else.....

The way the defence is structured and how they got the ball in quickly I felt for Petty today.

He had no chance...

Might be time for a self imposed suspension.

I think we need to revisit the idea of playing the third tall in the forward line together with tallish players such as Melksham and Hannan.

T Smith may not be the answer but we look so much better when he is the mix and the same goes for Spargo.

Garlett has done nothing at VFL level but I'm desperate enough to try him but how his breakaway plays can work in a crowded forward line I cannot see.

To state the obvious the key is Hogan returning to 20 plus possession games.

Let's be honest we are now at that stage of the season where the coach needs to do some rethinking as we're not going anywhere with this gameplan.

In: Frost, Spargo, Garlett

Out: Petty, Tyson, Hannan

Pretty simple really, we lack foot speed and defensive pressure. When Spargo came in we won 6 straight, not sure the reason but I think he contributed with the little things he did.

I think Petty will be a solid key back but he's too young. It's do or die for the rest of the season so we need 'experienced' key backs in.

Current temperature in Darwin: 31 degrees.

Forecast for Saturday is 33 degrees and 51% humidity lol

If we manage to roll the Dockers up there the Doggies will be licking their lips the week after. Our players will be stuffed.  If that happens its season over.

The Darwin deal is an abomination.

Agreed.

i could tolerate it if it was before the bye, but it never is.

I think the Alice game works well for all parties- the conditions are conducive to professional football, we make some much needed money and the views of the ground and surrounding area are spectacular for the tourism dollars.

maybe ....I'd go TSmith instead of Pedersen... Pedersen just doesn't gel with the other two forwards.

Petty was too early and an unnecessary selection ...

I would like to think we will be tactical about Darwin and think of the following week. Perhaps TomMac has a rest for example.

Would be interested to hear more about Jetta... he did not look himself today.

Hogan needs to go back to being the main forward target, forget about this roaming role. He is not Nick Riewoldt. Tom Mcdonald goes back to defence, he was one of the competitions best defenders, and with Lever out we need him there. Persist with Weideman. Sorry Harrison, but you have had your taste now spend the rest of the year in the VFL learning your trade. From the VFL, Baker could be a chance, and Stretch has done enough to earn a recall. Forget Garlett, clearly he is not in the right mind space, rarely gets near it at VFL level, Spargo a much better option. We need to get back to basics and win the next two games, confidence counts for a lot in this game.

Pedersen because he's at least competitive in ruck when giving Max a spell

Tom McDonald is literally the most effective tall forward in the comp. The solution is not to move him back (except for in the dying minutes of a tight game), it’s to have him and Hogan learn to play together. Some of the best teams in history had two big talls... Lynch and Brown, Roughead and Buddy etc etc. it’s a strength of ours, that we are [censored] up due to poor use coming into the forward 50, poor game plan and playing far too many marking forwards.

ok. I see where you're coming from.. but a player needs to do more than be a relieving ruckman.

By playing Pedersen in the backline at VFL level I think the coaching staff have officially removed him from consideration at least for the present.

Yep, understand that. However our backline is severely lacking athe moment which is costing us big time. So he needs to go back. We kicked 19 goals today without him contributing much

Or they are warming him up to fill a gaping void at senior level...

He always makes a contest, has good hands, and can kick. Gives me a lot more comfort than many others

Pity that there is no mid session draft we could get rid of some of these under achievers, but yet again who would have them. Just so disappointing.

The other solution is to send Hogan back. Played back as a junior. Will teach him a fair bit about competing and show him how much more he's possible of, both in the air and when the ball is on the ground. I would've swapped him with Petty today at half time.

Initially I'd bring in a tall defender Frost or Keilty and go with a McDonald, Hogan, T Smith forward line, but I'd like to see the coaches at least try Hogan back.

Firstly forget about the 3 talls the forward line is far too crowded.

IN: Keilty, Stretch, Vince, Baker, Spargo

OUT: Weideman, Petty, J.Smith, Hannan, Tyson

Wonder if that was what Goodwin may have been alluding too for next week. He hated how the back half operated. Either that or it’s Frost or Keilty. After today doubt if the would roll the dice on Keilty and Pedo did zero when he got a crack.

So reckon we might only go with two talls in the forward half

Perhaps

Frost, Stretch, Vince, Spargo

for

Petty, Weideman, ANB, Hannan.

Out:petty, Tyson, weideman, Hannan

in:Frost, Garlett, spargo, stretch

Garlett and spargo to rotate forward and mid, we need good crumbers if we are going to keep bombing it forward need to keep the ball in there, stretch you know can run through the middle all day will be handy in hot conditions and Frost has to be better than petty at this stage and can at least provide a bit of dash out of the backline

forgot about vince maybe in for someone aswell but can’t see us making 5 changes although I think we should so we have fresh players for bulldogs

Those calling for Lewis to be dropped are the same calling for BOG Bernie, would’ve won today with Vince. Lewis was good.

Jones is finally being played outside, thankfully. He now needs to start being more damaging with less ball.

The next person to suggest we drop Petracca should be banned

Why does everybody have Garlett in the team I know he's quick but he's a front runner no use to us.

He lacks his usual power. Don’t believe he’s injured?

I said ‘managed’. He’s under performing and it’s not magically turning around. This is exactly when an injury occurs.

Yes, he had the bye. Going to Qld for the weekend isn’t a program designed to return his energy and power.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
