Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Short update from Scott Lucas (Langdon's manager):

Lucas said Melbourne and Fremantle have had "really good dialogue" about a trade for the Dockers wingman.

"If the deadline was this Friday it would all get done, but when it's next Wednesday you work to that date.

"To get a deal done opens up a heap of other deals.

"I think there's an understanding of getting it done and I think expectations from both sides are quite close."

Just do the stupid deal and get it done. Don’t drag it out. That’s why the trade period needs to go from Mon-Fri.

Don’t forget we are dealing with freo which is dealing with ding dong Bell.

I just wonder when he is going to have a hissy fit and say we are not doing the deal like he did with Hogan last year. Was bloody hilarious for a professional to act like that.

You’re right there, Bell is hard work. Time to get one back on Freo.

Equals a completely different team able to prevent easy opposition ball movement and transition and run out quarters and games.

And that was the key factor in our early losses that had us 1-4 and backs against the wall. Unclear whether work rate and structural issues contributed, but there was no doubt we were run off our feet and struggled to cope physically with the load in those losses to Port, Geelong, Essendon and St Kilda.

We actually did improve a fair bit after that point and lost two games (WCE and Crows) that we should have easily won. I've got no doubt those two losses, in particular the Crows one (which was perhaps the most I've seen a team dominate a game without winning), just shattered our belief and confidence and we never recovered. Had we won those two games it would've been 4 wins from the past 5 and, while we were not at the level of 2018, we may have gone on to win 2-3 more games and finish with 10 or so wins.

Shouldn't even be that long, considering the list managers are talking throughout the year. It really should be 2-3 days and wrap it up nice and quickly but I'm sure the trade radio sponsors bring in a but load of revenue.

The trade period needs to go from mid October until March, maybe even until later in the season.

It's ridiculous to restrict the ability to trade players down to a period of 2 weeks yet alone 1 week.

That said, an expanded free agency should start at this time - ideally mid October rather than just after the Grand Final - and the vast majority of off season moves should be with free agents. Kick off the exchange period with a big free agency bonanza then let teams work on actual trades at whatever pace they want.

It’s heading that way. They are slowly adopting the American (NBA) model, which I think is sensible. Players have too much power at the moment. I think that we’ll ultimately get to:

- FA & trade from Monday following Grand Final to prior to first game / bye weekend

- Trading of future picks at any time during the trade period

- Tradinng of players permitted immediately after you’ve drafted them

- Lottery for the top 10 selections in the draft

I would also like to see a “waiver” system where you can delist players at any time (you’d have to pay out their contracts) and pick up a free agent (ie someone who has been eligible and nominated for a draft and has been overlooked / delisted).

Seems to work in the NBA where few teams are up / down for prolonged (ie MFC) periods of times.

Tell that to fans of the 76ers or Knicks, who both tried tanking to - this far - different outcomes

Not to mention Sacramento Kings, who have had 13 seasons without a playoff appearance

No model is going to fix a basketcase ownership / management structure (ie Knicks)...

Are we the modern day Knicks of the AFL?

I'm more of an NFL man and I think the NFL maintains good parity by (so far) discouraging tanking. The top teams mostly retain their own players and tinker around the edges, the middle of the road teams often spend up and either improve or don't and the bottom teams can rebuild relatively quickly with a short period of stacking draft picks if need be.

Greater free agency will help the wealthy clubs but if they spend recklessly there will be bargains to be had. And there's plenty of ways to protect star players so if they leave it still requires a trade.

Really all we want is a system where the draft and salary cap keeps the league tight whilst also stopping gun kids or top line players walking out for nothing. Players 15-45 on a list could be open to a completely free market and no one would get too upset.

They need to introduce the two year contract, plus a further two year team option for draftees. That way it's much harder for a Ben King to leave so quickly. But not every draftee gets 4 years if they don't earn it

I don't really care if it means Ben King comes to Melbourne. :P

actually it's identical to us - 13 seasons without playoff appearances

they're one of the oldest basketball teams in existence yet they've won one title - in 51 - when they known as the rochester royals

the kings WISH they were as successful as the dees!

Do remember this is one of their top 5 players. Probably the equivalent of Harmes in value. Not elite but much valued.

What would you accept for Harmes?

Imo if we give up just a second rounder for a top 5 player who is only 23 years old, we are laughing.

A chance this gets done today?

Was 50/50 on Ed in the first half of the season but after watching some Freo games at the back end of the year this guy took his game to a new level I thought. Was out of puff myself just watching him run up and down all day to great effect.

I tend to agree. Seemed to improve as the season went on.

Imo for Harmes probably would get very late first round if we are lucky or early second round. Market would prob give second round.

Your dreaming Harmes would be Third round pick, might get a late second round.  Personally would like to see Harmes of HBF, I reckon he gets lost in the midfield most matches.

Sydney in the past have been great in trade week, they got most deals done early.  There is no reason to wait until the deadline to get deals done.  This one seems straight forward, just sign it off and move onto the next deal.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
