His agent Ray Purcell of OMP Sports Management would not be drawn on the terms of a proposed deal, but confirmed talks had started.

“We’ve commenced discussions. Melbourne are respectful of Neville and what we’ve put forward, and we’re working with them,” Purcell told Fairfax Media on Tuesday.

Just a matter of time I suspect!  :)

Loved the way he spoke about the dees on DL a few weeks ago and I’m confident he’ll re-sign! We love Nev!

Give him three years?

He'll be 31 and by that stage and if his body is still holding up (boy its taken a beating) he'll sign on for however many he can play after that.

I want Nev to play forever!

Get Nev signed up and then ink deals for Oscar and Gus and all will be fine and dandy!

Nev deserves a good, secure deal and I think he'll get it.  It's only a matter of time before this deal happens.

The Demons have always treated Nev with respect and vice versa. Put this deal in the bank.

Why has he inspired such patience and respect? There must be something about him?

would love to know - sounds like he could be long term post career leadership material in some capacity?

3 years at $380-$400k per year. Key player. One of the first picked and hard to replace.

Nev deserved to be looked after. Hope he and we get the glory in September.

Great story of perseverance and true guts.

He works very hard against multiple injuries and forced lay-offs to give his best, time and again. For his effectiveness across his career at MFC he would be the most underrated talent we have had for years yet kept working on his game and its improvements for the success of the MFC. His talents are only latently obvious; yet, his game has been first class for years; our best interceptor through the bleak recent history of our Club. Highly respected for these ethics.

On current form, he will go one step further than last year and make the All Australian team as a small defender. One of the best, if not the best, small defenders going around. He deserves a good contract and if by chance we lose him (which I don’t expect) I will be gutted, love watching Nev and want him to be a Demon for life!

I’d delist him a rerookie him just to see if he goes into supersonic overdrive.

I can’t remember who it was but last year they had that excellent spreadsheet of the out of contract players, players signed till 19, 20 and so on. Would love to see it again!

In my eyes Neville is a modern-day hero of the MFC, in some ways cast from a similar mould to Nathan Jones.  Both wear our colours with pride.  I can't see that changing!

Surely this is the most straight forward of all our contract negotiations this year. A three year deal on reasonable money should be pretty easy for all parties to agree to. Hopefully it is done before the Port game.

Given the average wage for an AFL footballer this year is $371,000 (source below) and going up to $389,000 by the end of his contract you would hope Nev would be on a better than average contract.

Should easily be looking at $1.5m over three as a minimum

Defenders as reliable as Nev are worth at least that

Interesting that Harmes is OOC too - I actually thought we had him signed up til 2019

Harmes, Brayshaw and O Mac are all must-retain at this point

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
