So in our darkest hour a few seasons ago, the Blues triumphed over our pitiful effort and taunted us as having played bruise-free football. Our time came on Sunday as we enjoyed one of our most enjoyable wins, no tension what-so-ever. This pleasant Sunday afternoon was far worse than bruise free, it was Blues free.

I have to say, it was the most relaxed I have been prior to and during a game for a long time. I knew before the game we would win, the blues are poos.

Those Carton players should wear brown recycled jumpers. IMV.

The type they used to use to white-ant others players,,,, with those recycled brown bags, 3 bags full sir.

And its said that's what that white circle in the heart of their jumper is,,, an embryonic white-ant.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that none of our players or coaches have come out to heap any extra public humiliation on Carlton, it hasn't been turned into a running joke, and it really seems like the club has moved on. Probably because we've got work to do and aren't already banking our premierships.

After all, it is up to us, the rancorous grubby plebs on the sidelines, to do the mocking!

One thing that puts a bit of sting in Carlton's situation is that because they brought in so many recycled players with a few years already in the system, they aren't actually all that young as a side. I'd estimate that their best 22 is barely younger than ours, and even then only because of our veteran imports Lewis and Vince.

Their mature recycled players currently playing all or most games include - Jones 27,  Wright 28, Lamb 25, Mullet 26, O'Shea 26, Plowman 23, Kerridge 25.

It may have been necessary given Carlton's list hole post-Malthouse, but there's a definite erosion of any sense of being a young team full of bright talent with great potential, when most of their team on the field have already reached maturity as AFL players.

Things look worse and worse for Carlton the closer you look. Like one of those evil mind-control hypnotic spirals. And now there's a story surfacing that Murphy was pushed to play too early despite awareness of the foot problem not being cleared...

I don't really take any joy in Carlton's plight or fighting any old battles with people who sleighted us in the past.

It's odd. The thought of eventually sticking it up the arzes of all the muppets who bagged us was what kept me going in the darker days. Now I just want us to do the best we can and to be as focused on what we need to do rather than all the peripheral crap we have been distracted by in years past.

I also realize that things can turn quickly, not to take things for granted and not to get to too far ahead.

Nice little reminder, and additionally, it must be stated that walking with increasing pace in pastures new is a wonderful journey. This weekend, it is the Crows turn to learn that silence is often the best remedy for the scathing attacks to the MFC over the past few years. Humble pie time for them all. Have a great game, Dees.

Carlton are a big irrelevant joke! The fact they were handed a couple of prime time slots on Friday night footy is an absolute disgrace!

As I've posted before, they should count their lucky stars that their premiership era coincided with the rise of TV as a medium. 

They won a generation of supporters because all supporters saw in the 70's/80's was their premiership 3rd quarter on The Winners. Hence why they can argue (with less and less authority each year mind you) that they deserve Friday night spots.

Eventually those baby boomer/generation x supporters will eventually die off/get old. Where will that leave them? Not in a position far off from where we are now (supporter wise that is).

The first thing Carlton need to do is probably the toughest thing they can do: admit that they are a pretty bloody ordinary club and no longer 'the biggest club in Melbourne'. Hawthorn, Collingwood and Richmond are streets ahead of them in terms of drawing power and, in the Hawks case exclusively, success. I have many Carlton supporting friends who used to never miss a match. Now they can't even bribed their kids to go and they're staying away too most weeks.

I would like to send a cheerio to a group of my Carlton supporter friends who before the season started booked this weekend away with their wives at an expensive hotel in Geelong (if there is indeed such a thing) and paid through the nose for seats at GMHBA Stadium so they could watch tonight’s game in comfort. I wouldn't mind a 191 point win to Geelong tonight but then again need for Geelong to get that percentage boost. As much as I hate it an upset will help us more.

Of all the insults we’ve received over the last 11 years, this is the one that really stung.  It was around this time that I started to realise just how much trouble we were in... and there was much, much worse to come.

We got an insight that, despite our own optimism about our club, list and direction, the competition had zero respect for us.

It can be hard to distinguish what is fake bluff and what is a sledge that nails it but this one was a portent of things to come.

It hit home for me when the Suns smashed is at the G in 2013 and Neeld said we had been 'out muscled' and pointed to the attempted tackles stat as a sign of improved effort.

Apparently Russel Howcroft nearly started a riot in the pre match function as well when he deflected questions about how this came to be by saying those in attendance could run for the board if they liked (if the Demonland account of that event is true). It showed that many at the club could not recognize the plain reality that we were a joke but were willing to kick the can down the road.

It seems to me that Carlton are still in that stage.
