Discussions regarding a new deal have hit a roadblock with Adelaide is reported to be strongly considering a move home to Victoria. We've been named as 1 of the 4 Vic clubs in the hunt.

Could we get Lynch AND Gaff?

Would you be willing to pay up to get Lynch? Will be 28 in September

Hogan, McDonald and Weideman. Where does Lynch play?

The only thing I can think of is us leaking our interest in Lynch to provide us some leverage in the McDonald contract talks.

I’m surprised we’ve been mentioned in the article, I just can’t see the club being interested in Lynch.

Are we the new filth ? ie...to be associated by rumours to any and all ?

There is no room for him now.

4 years ago, when we last chased him, he would have been a superb pick up for us.  Roosy was very keen and he would've added some real class to our forward line.

Now, we have no need for him in our side.  With the players you mentioned above, plus Gawn resting there, 'Bull' Smith doing well and our plethora of medium forwards, there is no reason to chase him now.

Pretty sure Lynch was using us as leverage to jack-up his price with Adelaide.

Fool me once, shame on you...

Seems like the sort of player that St Kilda need.

You'd expect the Aints to go hard ball here.If Vic bound i could see him going to StKilda.

Good fit

They should’ve kept him in the first place.

I think forward line and back line is fine. Mid is good but could do with a few pacey mids to compliment our star mid brigade.

Gaff could be looked at and I am sure we could package something up to move up in draft. If the draft is that good our later pick could be a diamond in the rough.

I wouldn't want Gaff or Lynch if it meant losing McDonald.

Make him priority

Concur. Tom Mac is a must and he can play most positions whereas Lynch is basically a 2nd or 3rd tall forward of which we have a few like Weeds, Smith etc. Not forgetting Hogan also. Doubt Lynch would fit in at all. The other thing is Lynch goes missing allot in games and we have enough of those. Gaff I would take if reasonably priced to cover Vince and Lewis when they retire. But keeping Mac is a no brainer.

Hopefully it might just mean that we are more of a destination club then we use to be. With success we might be mentioned more along with the usual Richmond and Collingwood's.

It's probably more likely we've been mentioned as I'm fairly sure we had strong interest in him in the past so would naturally put us in the conversation.

But then guys like Tmac, Hoges and Petracca arrived!

Lets look after our stock now that they are starting to show more promising results. Lynch doesn't fit the bill ,what we need is an outside Mid as we know in Gaff and to go after him hard. However we don't need a TMac generic.

Will be interesting if he goes back to the Saints after they traded him for what? Pick 37 was it?

Ouch

I'd rather pass on Adelaide's Lynch.

Signing T.McDonald should be much higher on the priority list. Not only do I think he's the better player but it's also beneficial for club culture.

If the club sees a need to target an additional tall forward, out of fear Hogan may not re-sign next year, then do it properly and go for Gold Coast's Tom Lynch.

Yes, I would.  He fits the age bracket we need more leadership within.   Sloane of Lynch. would be good.

Adding gaff would help our gut running area.

Three seems to be a few coming up Re possible shifts.  IMO, in four years time we will have a lot of pressure on our salary cap.  More-so then than now.

Getting these mature players will serve us well, as long as they are potent winners.

But we need to hold our picks as much as possible, so we have young talent ready in 4 years time, to start their AFL careers.

Weid will go to Collingwood, Lynch to us....simplez

Ten minutes later, I have been musing on this possibility of downloading the Weed as part of gathering Lynch, potentially. Gaff would be my priority acquisition, just the same.

I reckon that Lynch would not be needed by the MFC in his current onfield deployment (at the Crows); however, I do think that he is a player above a mere depth acquisition. To this end, I feel that he could be fairly easily adapted to be our Centre Half Back with some command of the footy field and, of course, better exploiting his footy-gathering skills, given his physical attributes. With OMac proving more skilled, adept and reliable at Full Back, and with the rest of our impressive backline in support, Lynch could well be the opportunity to release Lever from the CHB position, enabling him (Lever) to return to the utility/intercept role to the HBFlank where he plays his very best football.

Imagine:

Jetta                            OMac                      Hibberd

Lever                           Lynch                       Hunt/Lewis

... as our back six to produce a fortress and ball-winning set to support and initiate our impressive midfield and forward drive.

In many ways, it is a bluddy scary opportunity to put the wobblies up the Filth, Carlscum, Essendrug, Whoreform, the Weegals and the dreaded interstate menagerie. Yep, go for him, after Gaff.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
