Plus:

3. Must keep Viney healthy

4. 5 teams can win the flag - Melbourne is one of them

5. Outstanding coaching and confidence in trying new things. Expect something different pre-finals, if make it

6. Jake Melksham just needs nothing to think about and let him play on auto pilot

7. No. 1 pressure acts and contested possession team. No easy games for opposition

8. Oliver operating at another/higher  level from last year

Are the five teams Richmond, West Coast, Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide?

I wouldn't rule out Port, Geelong, Hawthorn or even GWS completely. It is only May.

The last point is an interesting one. Many others on here may instantly agree and seem obvious to them , I’m surprised that this is the case (can you detail Oliver’s stats please)- I assumed he had plateau - but then perhaps I’m merely expecting great sexy sublime things weekly now and my expectations have regressed to the mean.

Talking football and Melbourne's success at the moment, with two supporters of other clubs,   they both know Gawn and Petracca   but both had no clue as to how good or quick Clarry is.  Just an interesting point I thought.

Go Dees

Champion data is getting a bit creepy.

I'm not sure how they've obtained a data set on a player's neurological mind-state. Unless Saty is somehow involved.

We beat top 4 sides last year and we didn't make the F word. This season can be different.  Start believing BB.

A bit in here on the Demons and what we are up to as well as some background on what game day and opp analysts are getting up to....

I like this comment. We rarely, if ever, talk about the importance of the players abilities to concentrate throughout the match. Aside from physically maturing into that 50-80 game player getting used to constantly being ‘on’ would also take time.

"One of the most underrated skills in AFL football now is a player's ability to concentrate for long periods, because the game never stops," Stone said.

"The whistle doesn't offer a pause, and the next thing is happening all the time – changing positional roles, momentum swings, rotations on and off the bench, and tactics.

"So a player's ability to sustain concentration is definitely an advantage … one mistake can fracture team defence, and it's the same with offence."

You’d assume those are the 5.

Personally I’d have the other four well in front of us, until we show that we are capable of beating stronger sides than North.

A bit of an eye opener for me also FND. Hopefully the raw passion & joy of just playing the game for the enjoyment factor hasn't been completely lost
