The guy is looking for a quick buck... such a pathetic human being. If you had an issue with a player abusing you then take it up then. Don’t wait 7 years when you are broke and unemployed and then try milk the system.

If he was racially and sexually vilified, he has every right to demand compensation. It doesn’t matter how long has passed.

I’m sick of this “grow a pair” mentality in AFL. Harassing someone over race or sexuality is ILLEGAL.

At various times in my life I've been called a smart c, a dumb c, a young c, and currently an old c. Not once in these assaults on my feelings did I think I should lodge a grievance. Perhaps that was me agreeing with the perp at the time or it was more probable I didn't give a rats *nacker for the opinion of unsophisticated, illiterate neanderthals. Sorry, but I think feelings have become so "precious" we are at risk of being sanitised to death.

Sorry, but reckon these comments say more about you

Well, your’re a well adjusted, resilient individual, congratulations.  You did leave black c*** off the list of things you’ve been called over the years though.  Have you ever been called a black c****??

I’m a 35yo, 6’3”, straight, white male; I don’t profess to tell minorities how they should be reacting in situations I couldn’t possibly have any understanding of.

And that’s for the courts to decide.  If his claim has merit, then maybe he’s not such a ‘pathetic human being’.

Absolutely but it still does make you wonder why he waited so long. We need to be promoting an environment where these issues get raised immediately. The sooner the better so this behaviour gets stamped out.

We live in a grievance culture where everyone holds the right not to be 'offended' and many actually go out of their way to look for offence.

Don't know the speciific circumstances of this player (have never heard of him before now) but it seems like as long as people take offence (for offence is always taken and never given) then we will continue to have these issues.

Check out this pathetic example of a woman professor (of gender studies no less) that claims she was offended when pushing the buttons in a lift and a man made a lame joke saying "ladies' lingerie". I am not kidding.  https://www.chronicle.com/article/He-Makes-a-Joke-She-Isn-t/243350

I've purchased lingerie for my beautiful young wife before.

I also would have smiled/smirked/laughed while some random asked me what floor I wanted to exit at.

That story is f$%ked

What exactly was the complainant called?

Need more info.

So why side track the topic by ranting about gender PC issues with clickbait?

"Offence is always taken but never given" is such a tiresome and simplistic slogan with no contribution to very much at all. Tell me, when being called a black c*** (by AFL opponent Sherman) do you think it was supposed to be a compliment or was it 'given' with the intention to offend using race and put him off his game?

Would be better to wait and be informed about the specifics of this case rather than jump the gun and victim blame

Close it now for pities sake. We have run the full gamut of responses. Let it play out in the courts.

Wow, so many of you have missed the point, I've been called a white c more than once by people including some residents of the Framlingham Forrest whom I was trying to assist at the time. My point was, I never took any of that personally. A lot of the vilification that occurs is reactive, often associated with personal experiences where there has been an aggressor and a victim, sometimes even of the same colour. Unfortunately people being people that gets generalised into black and white, sometimes when it's just people and agendas.

As an aside, I chose Nev as my membership player when given the choice this year and I count myself fortunate that I've had the pleasure to speak to a number of fabulous indigenous players to wear our jumper and although I've called them indigenous I don't see them as anything else but people. I think when some get too righteous it sometimes makes it look too forced and most minorities want to be treated as equals and not singled out as being different and deserving of special treatment.

It was mentioned on the nine news that he reported the abuse while still playing at the Sun's and no action was taken to address it.  If that is the case it will be a breach of workplace laws and the organisation is 100% liable.  He just needs to ensure he has a paper trail of this complaints to management and its not heresy.

Will never go to court. The AFL will settle this without it ever getting a run. The cockroach solicititors, Shine, know this

I wonder if Harry O will reappear from wherever he is, don't think we had any issues with but he used to give it to Collingwood.

Where is old la la lamumba ?

Sounds like his debut game he was racially abused and reported it to the captains and coach intra game, unsure what’s happened after that but obviously true as the Collingwood supporter lost his membership and the the player who abused him had to do community service. Pretty disgraceful, first game as a young kid, you’ve got to feel for him.

Actually don’t know, he was mourning the loss of Mohammad Ali then I can’t remember too much after that, he was a gun at Collingwood, can’t remember too many of his games at dees. Hope he’s doing ok.

bigotry is always in the eye of the receiver...

and I would have no idea about receiving bigotry, as I am white middle class and that has given my life and my son's life on a silver platter, and given me privilege, the privilege not to be worried about comments that I can make sense of as throw a way lines.

but [censored], coming from SW Victoria in the 80's... myself using coon, wogs, niggers, as it was a societal norm,  at the school yard, football field, pub parlance on reflection is disgraceful...thank god most of us are more evolved and sensitive to the fact that the receiver is entitled to feel, what the feel, and that its not because people are precious, its because they've been harrassed for arbitrary genes  (female, non white), by MOSTLY white, middle class males all their life be it overtly or otherwise.

A forum is exactly that, a place to share your thoughts, right or wrong. but as mentioned on here, you will be severely judged for your views.

dworship I think in your case they may have used telling the truth as a defence.  I have been vilified in this place and it is hard to talk about it but for the benefit of society at large here goes.

I was called a, "schoolteacher type"

I am surprised that that was not auto-censored.

Prepare for my legal team, you know who you are.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
