Changes vs Gold Coast

Out: ANB

In: Salem

Seriously, If ANB holds his spot I’ll be amazed. What a turnover merchant and just made some terrible decisions today.

If Viney is right then I’d look at Harmes but he wasn’t too bad today so it’ll be tough.

In - Viney, Salem

Out - ANB,  Vince (rest )

Bernie played well but he has played 3 games in 11 days, hes 32 and its a long season. We need  players fresh for the back half of the season when things really heat up.

I know he's taken on the whipping boy role (after Watts left) but amongst his stuff ups there were some signs that a turn around in form wasn't a million miles away. Rose coloured glasses my friends, you've gotta get a pair.

Agree Jack has not played for a long while and coming back through the VFL wont hurt him.

ANB for anyone is fine.

Toughest selection week coming up for the year if viney is right to go, might see someone like Spargo making way not that he deserves to be dropped but he is a young fella will get his chance, I’m also wondering how Garlett finds his way back in

No to JV for mine let him get touch and game fitness in the VFL. 1 week or 2 and bring him back in firing on all cylinders

Listening to Goodwin talk about the high performance staff “getting players AFL ready” makes me think that he’ll cone straight in and impact the game.

The last thing we want is some VFL clown looking for 15 minutes of fame by ironing Jack out and possibly further delaying his return.

ANB out should be a certainty: for Salem or Viney.

Anyone else would be stiff but if both are fit but it is a nice problem for the selectors.

A concern is that the last time (I recall) that JV played VFL some thug from Geelong broke his jaw (and got an effective one week penalty for it).

Agree on Viney straight in. Even going at 70% he'd earn his spot. Whether next week is the one, only the fitness staff would know.

The other in for me is Garlett. He did OK at Casey, and we miss his crumbing capabilities and instinct for the goals - as long as he brings them of course.

Hunt has to stay in.  His pace is desperately needed.  I know he needs to improve his disposal but he stays in for mine.

I don’t think Salem will be ready this week.  Viney for ANB.

He doesn’t get enough of it, runs into trouble and turns it over.

Amazed that no one has Weid out. Was serviceable and is coming along nicely but unless we are completely wedded to the three tall forwards then it's Weid and ANB (or possibly Hunt but I don't think so) for Viney and Salem. Fritsch and Harmes will just play more forward time with Viney in the guts and Salem back.

Viney in. But leave the midfield as is and just let him run around half forward and pressure and compete. Put him in ANB's spot. Maybe some swapping on ball with Harmes if needed.

I doubt Salem will overcome a thumb in 1 week. If he does then it's a matter of whether Vince or Lewis need a rest, if they drop Tyson or probably I'd go Lewis back to the wing, Fritsch to half forward and go smaller up forward to get more pressure, in which case Weeds is unlucky and misses out. With Hannan, Fritsch, Petracca and Melksham all strong overhead I don't think we need 3 tall forwards, we're only playing the 3 because we lack the midfield/half back options as is.

Regardless of Salem's health it's probably a week to consider if we need to get a 2nd genuine tall defender a run because there's other teams coming up that have 3 big guys

Give Viney 3/4 at Casey, love the guy, but reckon he needs a practise run after being out so long

Agree and listening to Viney being interviewed pre game it's a real possibility.

Add his length out of the game with the fact that it is a road trip to play in what I thought would be warm conditions  but I see the forecast is only for 22 ... my head says return for the Carlton game.

With next week being a road game and a short turn around there may be an argument to rest someone and return Garlett. Wagner might also bob up...

Interesting but good problems for the selection committee this week

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
