0 for 1 in predictions this year but Garry Lyon says St. Kilda are deplorable so they obviously will destroy us.

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2018/04/29/lyon-st-kilda-absolutely-deplorable/

“Their kicking skills were absolutely deplorable,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“Like, deplorable to the point we all watch footy on Saturday night and we’re all experts in our loungeroom, your phone just starts pinging and all your mates are watching the same thing and wondering whether you’re watching AFL footy.

“The players in that St Kilda side two years ago that we thought were going to become something, where’s Jack Billings, where’s Luke Dunstan, Jade Gresham seems to have just stagnated, Maverick Weller’s best footy is behind him, Jack Sinclair hasn’t lit one up for a long time and these were the sorts of blokes we thought were going to carry them.

“Jack Steven’s their best player and can’t kick very well, still.”

Also Membrey and Bruce can't kick and they always play the game of their lives against us. They too will destroy us.

Only pessimists need reply. You optimists are deplorable too. :P

Given the way we played yesterday they will beat us.

1st half or 2nd half?

On first half form they will destroy us.

On second half form they will destroy us too because we can never back it up.

We're doomed and cursed.

Saints are one of the few teams we play twice this year .... lucky that they are below par... wait a minute MFCSS tells me we have no luck !

I get this thread is satire but it wouldn't matter if we were playing Seaford 3rds this weekend, some supporters would come on here saying we are gonna get our arses handed to us

Bruce is an A grade hack, who always kicks a bag against us.

Definitely contender for the Kent Kingsley award this week.

Trouble been a MFC supporter is we watch every game with our heart in our mouth.  It is decades of inconsistency and not knowing which team will turn up on any given day.  The season is on a knife edge and we have to be at our best every week.  Beating the Saints, GC and Carlton are simply a must for us to cement our season.  I have no idea week to week it’s a lottery and that’s a major concern.  If we miss out on the 8 it’s a dismal failure with our list.  Supporters of this club are just fatigued with inconsistency.  If we are to improve we must win the next 3 then there is a glimmer of hope.  At the moment I do not trust this club.

We are better than them but Saints are in the bottom half of the mid tier of teams (6th-12th). They should go in 50-50 against any teams in that tier and can't be taken lightly.

The saints killed us in midfield setups a couple of seasons back, at etihad.   And Hickey gave Maxy a sponge bath, that game as well.

They crowded us around the contest, forcing us to cough up the pill.  Much like the Hawks did to us a few weeks back, and the Tiges did us as well the same way.

Take them lightly, at our own Peril.

Bruce is injured, out for several weeks.

Not a heavy injury list for Saints.

Josh Bruce  Back  6-8 weeks
 Darren Minchington  Knee  3-4 weeks
 Jack Newnes  Concussion  Test
 Dylan Roberton  Heart  Indefinite
 Koby Stevens  Concussion  Indefinite
 Jimmy Webster  Hip  Test

I think the skills Comp wide have been deplorable this year, very hard to watch any game with interest currently. Between saints, dees, Roos and bombers it’d be a toss up.

they did draw with GWS who aren't that bad.

GWS not that good.

I don't get how posters on here are saying saints better then bombers, there record is worse, the bombers beat the crows in Melbourne, and the saints lost by 55 points to a undermanned Crows. The saints have been trying they are just no good, if the dees take them serious then we win by 35. The docklands is now our favorite ground, we now play it better then anyone.

Theyve only lost to Sydney..

3rd on ladder. Healthy %

Yeah... rubbish ?

Id agree they aren't the 2nd coming...but shabby they're not.

They've also drawn with the Saints, struggled against the Lions and only just accounted for the Pies.  Outside of thumping the Dogs, they haven't exactly set the world alight at this point of the season.

Goes to show anything is possible this Sunday, particularly with the evenness of the comp (outside of Carlton and Brizzy)

Mindset and discipline are the keys, if we start well and turnover the scoreboard then I expect the Saints to wilt. We really need a big win to give the players some real confidence.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
