I think Balic comes in for Hames

Pedo for ANB

Pedo allows more options in attack, defence, and Ruck!

Cameron Pedersen great foil for Big Max, has a positive track record as a forward against the Hawks and loves a dry, fast track in the sunshine at the 'G' ! Weather forecast for Sunday?

I reckon they're a bit light on in the midfield compared to us, apart from Mitchell, O'meara is still working his way back into form after so long and then you've got C graders like Shiels, Langford and Duryea - not exactly intimidating! Provided we stop Mitchell from getting completely off the leash we should have a significant edge there.

Watch Isaac Smith tear us to shreds this week.

The selectors have made the right decisions so far and the contentious decisions have worked out.

I will  go  with what they think we need this week.

Personally, I believe we do need another tall forward in the lineup, especially with Hogan roaming a fair bit in to the mid field.

Not sure who we would drop for that inclusion.

Got it wrong round 1 with Maynard playing and Frost not. Should be 3-0.

Maybe Bernie and ANB get the nod to quell Mitchell.   If Mitchell wins the ball, we want him to cough it up.

lol. ANB?! no chance he's a tagger (soft) and if he got the ball her probably cough it up via poor disposal anyway.. he goes out in my opinion. melksham offers more and has grunt. also, milkshake might be another tagging option for Mitchell (sharing w Vince)?

He's got endurance, to run with Mitchell.  He can cover miles, which would be needed to mind Mitchell.  We don't have many with strong tanks.

And with ANB down on form, a negating role might be helpful.

Frosty fined for the sling tackle and nothing to see here for Nev’s bump on Brown. Happy days, both available for Sunday

i also notice that the MRP didn’t cite Umpire 26 for bringing the game into disrepute

He was about to be referred straight to the MRP but apparently any umpire holding a life Membership with any club (In this case Norf) is automatically exempt

Some very nice passages of play that would have pleased the coaching depts (at both levels) on Sunday, but barely any opposition to assist in judging who might be truly at the level of form required to bust in to AFL level at the expense of a winning team member.

If there is any change it is likely to be structural as others have mentioned, with the inclusion of an extra tall.  Melksham the only one seriously on the fringe for now.  Having said that I still don't think either Pedders or Weids are a credible option against an in form Hawthorn this week as neither is capable of bringing the intensity required for long enough periods during a game.  But then again Melk also had similar issues last Saturday.

We only lost to them by a kick last year but our kids are one extra pre-season stronger and can hopefully most can now play out the game to the end.  If we are bringing in an extra tall for Melk then it might be time to roll in Weid for a stint up forward and resting ruck to give Maxy an occasional chop out and rest.  Likely needed after last week and against the bullocking work of big boy.

So we should send Bugg to line up on Milkshake?

I prefer to play Oliver on Mitchell. That way  Oliver can do his best work, and we aren’t wasting a player tagging an untaggable player. It’s very hard to tag an inside mid like Mitchell.

Oliver hunts the ball and Tom Mitchell is always seems to have the ball. Oliver has the type of closing speed that could trouble Tom Mitchell, there is no doubt about that. If the Hawks do send a tag to Oliver then we can just send Oliver to Mitchell and free up Salem - who can be very damaging by foot on his day.

ANB may not be a tagger, but he’s not soft. I find your comment disrespectful.

Besides, he had 18 or so possessions which was better than Harmes & Melksham

Hawks fwd line is quite small so I could see Frost going out for brayshaw

I could also see Hannan coming in for Fritsch who struggled a little last week.

I think Weideman will need to put together a string of good games in the vfl before he will get a look in, worst thing for him at this stage would be to bring him in and he has no impact and goes straight out again.

Not sure who listens to SEN here but King and the guy from champion data had some interesting stats about our fwd line this year yesterday, basically we are the top few for marks inside 50, entries inside 50 we are also one of the highest defencive pressure fwd lines too, I think this is in no small part to playing small.

Like this team with one exception: Hogan to FFwd with Pedo into CHFwd. Possibly create a HBF spot for the improving Lever (who will not be down for long) by giving Jetta a rest for one week - his form (Jetta) has been less than his normal brilliance and I reckon he received an early knock against Brizzy that is still affecting his mobility a little. Fritsch to play from the bench as a leading, space-finding fwd in the 50m arc. Against the Whoreform team, we will need a combination of mobility and height - the more of each, the better. Gunstone will be the man to watch and check more than any other. Bugg is on a mission, I hope, to take out Mitchell as a mid.

Agree. Add in gawn and our mid field is way better. It is one reason why i am confident of a relatively comfortable win.

This video is a tremendous indication of the sight and thinking that Clarrie possesses. He has the solutions, and always has had the solutions - so quickly does he think and respond.

Cam Pedo is one of our greatest foils against Hawthorn - he just does the job on them, each time we play. His body is big, tough and when moving, represents tremendous mass to hit the skinny Hawks hard. He challenges in the aerials, as well and brings the ball to ground for the crumbers. He also plays the shield as second nature, providing avenues for forward momentum and delivery. Pedo IN for heavens sake.

Yeah ME kicked 4 in the last practice match at Oakleigh U 17 and spent next 4 weeks carrying Drinks! Enough I said, so ended up at Dees U 19 at invitation and played quite a  few games before concussion issues forced curtailment of that foray. The rest is for another time!

Just looked forward, every game, to watching Tony Cloke at Oakleigh ... and the local pies were phabulous, too. Couple of great players from that Club, without a doubt.

Last time we played the Hawks we had no Gawn. We also handballed 237 times to 193 kicks (Dorks had 138HBs to 218 kicks). They outmarked us 106 to 75.

We were 1 point down at 3/4 time and lost by 3pts.

Don't let them control the footy and we should win.

There aren't any other players I know who could do that with their left had only while fending off a tackle from a premiership player and surrounded by 4 players.

These are the indicators that have changed our game; at the same time, whilst some of these are not flattering for the Dees, it proves that the Whoreform team waste the ball like any other team and thus, are very 'beatable'. Whereas, I strongly think that our game has improved and that our potency to score is much better than it was. I always regarded '...the Last time we played the Hawks...' was our victory in all but the merest scoreboard differential, so Sunday should be a big win for the Dees at this time of the year.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
