It's that time of year again, the world famous Corowa Easter Saturday Billy cart races. 10am start and we've had enough by 10.30 and start the pub crawl home. I doubt I'll see any of the game tonight let alone remember, but I have this sinking feeling I wont want too...

A win is a win tonight. The last two  formal games we’ve played have left a really bitter taste in our mouths. We need to get the winning feeling back and build some momentum. This will make footy fun again.

Lowering my expectations to start the season and still believe we will be 1-4 after five games.

Will be ecstatic to be proven horribly, horribly wrong.

Interesting to see that Frost, Hannan, Kent, Weideman, Baker were Casey's best players against Frankston in the VFL according to Jade Rawlings, albeit that the Frankfurters are at present a lowly, re-building skill set. This augers well for the AFL team, with Keilty making his mark alongside Oskar Baker in defence/wing. Trademark runs and skills from Frosty were very good in setting up attacking ball movement across the whole game. His confidence is obviously high, despite missing 2 selections in a row with the firsts. Kent has worked himself up from a dislocated shoulder last season to kick 4 telling goals, to provide aggression at - and for - the ball, in the forward line and obviously has got his kicking foot working again. Weideman looks like he has turned a corner with contributions in front of goal and around the ground as a mobile ruckman. This is the news we have been waiting for and although it was a game at a different level, it was a good omen as far as skills, team balance and contested footy were concerned.

It won't matter. Something about this Brisbane team. If you give them a sniff they won't back off.

We will win this game by 10 goals or more. You lot are off your chops if you think they will get near us.

Any chance of some pictures of the billy cart race Josh.

Sounds like a wonderful event. Corowa is a beautiful town.

Our Demons have a way of letting us down, that is way there is the negativity and nervousness on this site.

Fingers crossed, today is the start of something new and we pump the Lions by 10 goals, play four quarters, have 22 players turn up to play, and keep going when we get in front!

I feel exactly the same way TK

It is really draining watching and supporting this team and it would be nice to start winning and having some fun supporting our team.

I can’t remember the last time it was enjoyable to support this team on a consistent basis.

Like @Nasher I have no concerns about this game.

You guys have the heart of a grape seed.

I'm just waiting to be told about how my attitude is what causes us to drop these games.  Pretty disappointing response so far!

I read that and I know you are right. We have far more talent all over the park.

Get off the acid. I do hope your right though. A win by a point would be enough for me.

I know exactly what you mean, I just made a conscious decision a few years ago not to allow myself to be conditioned.  I see so many Melbourne supporters on this forum who are broken (spend some time in the match day threads if you get a chance), and I refuse to let that happen.  Like everyone else, I went through the Neeld era always knowing wins were unlikely and I reckon my love for footy would have petered out long ago if I was still looking at everything through that lens.

If Brisbane unexpectedly field a competent side, then I'll settle for a hard fought win too.  I'm expecting them to field the team of pus they fielded last week though. Make no mistake, they are a hopeless side.

Didn't you have a completely different attitude a fortnight ago?

Traveled up for the Easter break so hoping for a good win as I’m going to the match. Nice morning in Brisbane, hope it does turn to monsoons by the evening!

What are we defining as the a drop? The 30 pt (5 goal to none qtr) as defined by AFL commentators or just a bad qtr where we are outscored by a goal?

I'll say the 2nd again - and we should hopefully be able to over run them like the  Aints did last week.

Attitude is important here.

While it's fine for punters like ourselves to mouth off on forums like this, the boys need to respect the opposition that's out there and pay them commensurate respect by playing to the best of their abilities.

Collingwood fielded a patched together side in round 23 last year. We had most of our best 22 in (minus Jack Viney) and proceeded to go out and poo the bed.

If you have made it to AFL level, you have some type of aptitude to play the game. Our boys best remember that.

That being said, I think we should win by 18 points if I were to put my tipsters hat on.

Too many broken supporters on here, we will win by 40 plus

The statements aren’t for the rest of the forum really... it’s to help themselves reduce their expectations so they can’t be disappointed... self protection psychologically. And that’s fine by me - 50 plus points - Fritsch to jag 3 and OMAC to waltz down from full back and tumble one through from beyond 50 :)

You lot are more than welcome to think this will be a walk in the park. No easy games these days, and Brisbane are always a better side at home. I think we will win, but we need to play well.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
