Suits a list that needs a mature head. Not a list that already has their mature head recruits, and is struggling to fit in some of the younger players as it is.

Without having seen a lot of him you make a good case. What are his foot skills like?

We won't be seeing much more of him, he's been delisted.

Why hasn't anyone in here proposed an alternative (Aside from the ungettable gaff) if they're so quick to dismiss the idea?

Isaac Smith would be a nice but similarly ungettable alternative. Blake Acres would be worth a look

Gibson as a player would be decent at the dees, his age is his greatest enemy at this stage.

Because the alternative is that we play one of the players we already have. Most would prefer that.

Sam Gibson was delisted by the Kangaroos today after playing every game in 2017 and finishing 6th in their Best and Fairest.

Would be keen to grab Gibson for a year or two. Would be happy with a lifeline and we could get inside info on the one team we can not beat!

Happy to be a 'retirement home' for players of Bernie and Lewis' ilk but Gibson isn't good enough IMO. Plus we don't need another player over the age of 30.

Gibson would be great.  He came 6th in the Best and Fairest in a team that beat us twice. God help us. But he averages 22 touches a game and I think could average but up towards 27 or 28 in our system. Tackles strongly but has outside run which we need. He would be cheap as chips so I think it's definitely worth it. I'm sure we'll be looking at him.

Yes, certainly worth consideration and an interview with the recruitment team.

Desperate to keep playing so should come cheap, and a good backman at that.

Worst comes to worse he plays at Casey for the year. But may very well provide quality depth if one of our tall defenders goes down. Alternatively, he may compete for young O. Mc's spot forcing him to improve his game further.

How on earth would playing at Melbourne get him an extra 6 possessions a game ??

We already have an oversupply of middle of the road midfielders.  What we need is quick, goalkicking forwards, small defenders, KPP and back up ruckmen.

we also need players that play 4 qtr footy and losses to freo, coll, kangaroos twice and almost losing to carlton and brisbane suggest we need some intensity around the ball.

Very professional footballer.  Well worth a couple of years I reckon.

How does a player who played every game and finish 6th get the axe? Wow.  In 2007 we showed Daniel Ward the exit after 18 games that season, but I don't reckon I've ever seen it for a player who played every game.

FFS this is not Melbourne of 2012-2014 when we were crying out for experience... We have moved passed that. Not a f%$king chance this bloke comes anywhere near our football club

close minded people :) Just see the age and get put off. We have guys like Trengove, Kennedy-Harris and to be honest even Tyson and Vince were pretty dreadful this season. Gibson trumps them all by a fair margin. It's not like our list is impeccable. We came 9th people.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
