Ive emailed the club outlining why he should not be traded and that my membership will be cancelled if he goes .

Say what you will but It actually makes me feel sick to think we will add Jack to the scrapheap of failed high draft picks- he is in our best 22 .

We are making a mistake and he will do well elsewhere no doubt as he can with us , Jack is part of our story and we do this when its our time for finals .

Handing over 600-700$ a year to watch dysfunctional club for 4 of the last 8 years with hope that guys like Watts can help turn it around and now he is being pushed  out , most other clubs want him .

we are making a mistake .

Ox and Jako brought it week in, week out, and adapted to their opponent to find ways to better them. Putting Wells and Sylvia alongside them is just silly. How many flags did Robert Harvey win?

Schwarz was making the point about teammates during his era - it's a team game I was pointing out that the fact that was allowed to go on is part of the reason Schwarz has no premiership medal.

Yep, the critics here on Demonland would know heaps more than Dangerfield (and Paul Roos).

So the pro-Watts posters potting all and sundry at the club know better than Goodwin, McCartney, Mahoney & Jones?

Sorry chaps, I'd take the opinion of Dangerfield on a player's capability and usefulness over anyone on this forum.

I wouldn't.

He just said Watts best footy is as good as anyone in the competition.  Either hes a liar or knows nothing about footy.

Hang on, mate. No need for that. Whatever the motives are and reasons for them doing this, they are doing in the best interests of your footy club you love so much.

Jack will always be a great Demon no matter what happens this off season and if this is it - well, that is footy.

We all have our opinions but let's back the club. Can't hold them accountable outside the tent. Stay on board.

So you are emailing the club, who see his day to day commitment & are not happy with him, to tell them they are doing the wrong thing?

Good on you, I admire it, but that just typifies our supporter base and accepting of mediocrity.

Watts is gone.

Yes we do - we all know, as does Ch 7, Fox Footy, Talking Footy, RSN, Trade Radio

The coach told everyone

What closed doors???

All we have heard through the MFC spokespeople in the media is that they demand better preparation and higher output from Jack compared to what he's produced so far..

All i'm saying Jumbo is that there are clearly bigger issues and much finer details relating to these comments that none of us know about...

As far as i'm concerned, i'd love Jack to stay if he's going to give 100% and be the best player he can be...but if the club believe it's more beneficial to our club long term to not have him there, then i'm all for the trade!

CityDee, this is what you wrote a few days after joining this site just over three years ago:

Hated seeing Riv , Maloney , Miller on the ground before Davey's farewell game. Heart and soul players who could play a role and had proven so time and time again. Col played with injury alot and battled hard . Id thank him for what he did. the kid did and can play, all of these guys had bad luck with coaching changes/inept coaching and instability at club land. They had some good times also. Go Dees.

I respect that you clearly have a great love of both the players and the club but from my perspective you've got the order wrong. I've often stated that I'm a member who has tried to enjoy the little successes throughout the journey and focused on those as opposed to a premiership or bust mentality but the older I get the more that elusive premiership has grown  as a priority to me. I hated Grand Final day and have for some time. If Jack leaves, it will be a sad day but surely one player can't be the reason for you to jump off -  particularly a player that is failing to put the necessary effort in for us to improve. Jack has indeed been a huge part of our recent journey and I too have imagined the role that he would play in a potential premiership but it appears that it's not meant to be. Seeing Jones, Viney, Gawn, Hogan, Petracca, Brayshaw, Hunt, Jetta and Oliver celebrating on a premiership dais generates just as much excitement for me. Jack leaving is just another chapter in our story. As every Dees fan knows, not all those chapters have happy endings. But I've never been more convinced than right now that we might be on the cusp of the ultimate fairy tale ending. Don't miss it CityDee.

His best  footy is excellent. We just haven't seen it enough and the coaches see that he isnt dedicated to becoming an elite player.

They could be right, they could be wrong

I don't support the club blindly - I think they're making the wrong call here

Call him in and say 'here are your limitations - work on them, or you'll be traded or playing at Casey' .....then, don't blurt it out to all and sundry

Allow JW to process the conversation and act accordingly, or fall by the wayside

If I remember correctly, many moons ago, the FD called in David Neitz and gave him some home truths - as we all know, he duly delivered

Watts has been treated poorly

Let's agree to disagree

Not everyone 'within' the club is happy about this approach.

An older, more experienced Goodwin might very well give the rookie first year Goodwin a few words of wisdom on this one. I suspect he still has a binary code on this stuff - a seasoned, modern senior coach seems to possess more EQ on the human stuff than the old dinosaur coaches and the coaches new to the ranks.

I would love Goodwin to reach out to Hardwick on this before pressing the ejector button on Watts. I strongly suspect he would have a few pearls of wisdom that would be pertinent to the issue at hand. And it'll be around the human, non technical stuff.

Ironically, I think Goodwin's trying too hard (and I like him). Quite often, the ability to know when to manage certain issues from 40,000 feet, and to know when NOT to squeeze the grip too tightly, comes from experience. It's about materiality. It takes a fairly refined perspective on things.

David Gonski is big on this. But it takes years of experience and knowledge to know when to simply oversee from above and when to micro-manage. Sure, Jack probably needs a boot up the arse on some things. But he also needs to be respected and feel safe on certain other issues. He is a loyal and supremely talented player. He adds value and dimensionality to our list.

I really fear that we're about to lose a good soldier here. To the absolute detriment of all of us. It's killing me to read this thread.

Yes...lets. I appreciate the response and can certainly see where you are coming from.

BUT who's to say they haven't already had these meetings/conversations with him and he isn't holding up his end of the bargain?

If that's the case (and i'm not saying it is) perhaps, they've finally had enough of the lip service.

Jack, if Chris Scott, Paddy Dangerfield and Joel Selwood want you, just go. They have all experienced success and know not what winning is about. Grab the opportunity to play with Danger, Selwood and probably Ablett. You have been treated poorly by a succession of coaches and the fact that they are asking you to go is a sign of their own weakness and inability to manage you. 70% of Demonlanders want you to stay. That says it all.

I don't mind people saying trading Watts for appropriate return is good for the club.  It's the relentless harping on his weaknesses that pisses me off.

No-one's harping on. They keep being brought up because any number of people here are in denial about golden boy Jack.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
