The Ox on SEN is going ballistic at the news that Watts 'is gone'.

It is quite funny hearing him try and contain his anger on air.  Through gritted teeth is an understatement...

...if Jack goes, the mfc had better prepare its Communications staff for another sh..t storm to hit its phones and emails...

So potentially, we could lose two contracted players in watts and hogan for a bag of peanuts and a can of coke. Terrific. What is going on.with Goodwin and the FD

Now you're making stuff up to suit your whiny narrative.  Hogan is not going anywhere and, if he was, it would be for plenty.

Serious question here, LH - why would there be a [censored] storm?  I'll be disappointed to lose Jack, but at the same time I can understand where the club is coming from as well.  I won't be angry as I see it as a statement of intent.

Obviously we all handle things differently, and there is nothing wrong with that, but I'm genuinely interested as to why the club will cop it for a decision that most have been calling for for sometime (which didn't include myself).

Goodwin is definately putting his balls on the line here.

This will be either a masterstroke or a case of “Here we go again...”

How long is this club going to unceremoniously oust its loyal players:  Junior, Greene, Bruce, Grimes, Dunne, Trengove and now probably Watts.

I'm not suggesting we keep under performing players.

But I'm over rookie coaches, who have no affinity or historical connection or love of our club dumping much loved, loyal players because they want 'to make their mark' or 'make a statement'.

Mfc motto - give us your youth, suffer the injuries and when we get a new coach he gets out his broom and sweeps you out the door.

Not a good look for mfc.

If Watts took his job seriously and pushed himself last pre-season in an effort to impress the new incoming coach and an effort to push himself to become elite then this issue wouldn't have come to a head. Stop shifting the blame.

A sluggish start, much better through middle of the year, pretty ordinary after returning from injury.

However....

  • No 2. for delivering accurately inside 50 in the AFL!  Only bettered by Tex Walker!!
  • No.3 for linked involvements in scoring chains at the MFC
  • One of our most accurate kicks for goal inside 40 meters if not the most!
  • Basically kicked the deciding goal against our old foe on QB weekend FTW (that almost seals it for me )

We can ill afford to lose one of the best ball users by foot in the competition when we are, generally, up amongst the worst!

I know there were some issues pre-season in Wattys' preparations, and only Watts has himself to blame here if the rumours were true.

If he has cleaned up his alleged acts off the field and is ready for a huge pre-season, then he's a HUGE keeper.

This is simply the wrong guy to be putting on the trade table, subject to a self driven clean up.

There are more problem players at the MFC, who can't hit anything by foot, or get caught / over use the handball far too often, who i would look at way before Jacky boy.

Hitting targets by foot does three things.....

  • Allows the receiving player time/space to assess and either play on immediately or go back and hit the next target either gaining ground or laterally / backwards but maintaining possession and chewing up the clock (if needed).
  • Allows a player inside 50 to do the same and either take a shot at goal or pass it off to a player in a better position (IF he is reasonably accurate by foot)
  • Helps the team control the momentum and direction (slow / fast / switch) of the game and keeps the ball off of a potentially dangerous ball using / running opposition for longer.  Giving more 'accurate' ball use to us and keeping the opposition as cold as possible, forcing them to defend, chase and use up valuable energy is a huge advantage and one i would rather have more than less of.

DO NOT TRADE!!

Don't forget we bombarded the club with emails expressing our disgust that Trengove wasn't getting a game, Grimes wasn't getting a game, Lamb wasn't getting a game. We get upset easily :)

Jack Watts is number two in the league for his team retaining possession when the ball is in his hands.

Taylor Walker is number one

I'm not a Watts fan, but this is the dilemma - the best person in the club to have the ball in hand. The worst senior player to kick it to in a 1:1

I feel really bad for Jack if he's being tossed out.

But that's why we have a FD - to make unemotional decisions in the best interests of the Club. Hope they get this right.

Because Jack is very popular.  Kids love him.  Adults love him.

I don't think it is just losing Jack, per se.  It is him being 'kicked out' that will irate and will spur people to vent their spleen.

Wise, you have an incredibly favourable and forgiving view of people at the club and good on you.  But I don't think that is typical.

They will get over it. Just like people did when Woewodin was traded, same with Travis Johnstone.

You can't be serious. If people are that precious they desert the club because an under performing player was traded, they are not real supporters abd will leave sooner or later anyway

Jack is immensely popular amongst the other players. If he is being kicked out, this could ruffle more than just Jacks feathers. It's a horrible move and we will get peanuts for him. This will bite us on the arse.

No chance, several players have questioned his preparation and commitment.  So the writing has been on the wall

I don't get it - he's the most lambasted player by the fans (to the point that I'm surprised he didn't leave) but they'll kick up a fuss if he is traded? I don't think so.

What would freo give up for him?  They don't have anything that we'd want. If Hogan wants to return to WA, what can we do about it. I am not just making it up, there are numerous journos putting it out the and the silence from the club and the man himself is worrying

We can kick up a big fuss if Watts is traded without receiving a decent player in return. If he goes for peanuts I will be disgusted with the MFC and I have been a passionate Melbourne supporter for over sixty Years! We will certainly go backwards in a big way if this trade happens. Aren't we sick of talking about NEXT year or the year after etc etc? I really thought we were on the move in the UPWARDS direction. Thought anyway. That's the Norm Smith curse I guess.

Yeah, I'm sure that'll be the reason we lose members (if it happens). How about missing out on the finals by .5% because of our own ineptitude?

But we won't lose membership, we'll maintain the same numbers or go up IMO.

Fair enough, I'd be disappointed if we ended up with a bog average player in return too. But if we receive a quality player in return, will we still go backwards? I don't think they'll offload Watts just for the sake of it. He has value.

Goodwin categorically stated the other day he's a committed MFC player. And for a start Freo have pick 5 and some decent young players. He wouldn't go for nothing.

Even if we traded him for peanuts .. it won't affect our results on field. Chances, are that he would most likely be lining up for Casey  most of next year anyway .. Its what we do with those peanuts and picks during trade period that will determine our improvement  and success next year.

The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50.
