Probably practices his shots 20m out directly in front

That is not where he is missing his shots from, his missing them on a 45 degree angle.

Does this guy practice goalkicking at training

Nar too busy sleeping in!! And if he doesn't and MFC Coaching staff aren't onto it ( Definitely possible) then he will continue to miss time and time again.

It's a simple Fix and I reckon I can fix it!

But Meh! who am I!

exactly why he is missing them, as he doesn't practice from there. He probably does his dinky 20m straight in front shots and thinks he's got it covered

We are better with Bayley in the side and if he can get his kicking sorted out he will be around for a long time. He takes a lot of hits but always picks himself up and takes some very strong marks at critical times in a game as well as covering a lot of territory. I like what he brings to our side.

Today he kicked the ones that he really needed to kick.!

if you can't kick straight GTFO of the forward line.

It's a direct turnover.

I look at him with more a glass half full approach. When/if he cleans up the goal kicking, he will be an absolute jet. Has a ton of talent, excellent mark and is still young, I will back him into do it.

You might need to look up the meaning of the word 'laconic'.

Lackadaisical is the term I believe

I think we all agree. He has the talent. It’s his intensity that can lift, improved goalkicking accuracy will help, and he needs to play smart footy starting with getting in front. I’d like to see him get a 3 or 4 goal game this week.

He misread your post, spirit.  Kicked 3.4.
7 would have been great

Twigs build up into trees......

Tell that to Cale

I don’t know if it’s his laconic attitude or whether he’s not happy playing for the MFC, but he could not have looked less happy after his goals and when the final siren sounded yesterday.

I’d like to persist with him but he still hasn’t re-signed.

The commentators talk some garbage a lot of the times but they made a good suggestion, have him stick to Petracca for the upcoming pre-season. Hopefully could help him get a little more upper body and core strength, he reminds me of Robbo in the way he goes to ground. Needs to stay in contests for longer (as well as working on his kicking, can we get Brad Green to come and help!?).

Think you answered the question as to why his attitude is a bit shaky.

His from Colstream, played for Casey and if the only clubs that are interested in him are interstate teams (Sydney), then I can understand he'd be a bit bemused not being re-signed to Melbourne. They obviously don't want to give him what his management is asking.

Might be a case of the club not knowing how big the pot is and how much they can offer. Can't recall too many re-signings by any club in recent months

If he could kick straight he would be pretty much an A grade player for us.

But the kicking for goal is a major issue that he needs to address.  Kicked 22 goals for the season, but that could have so easily been in the mid 30s.

Hopefully he re-signs in the next few weeks.

I’m nominating Fritsch for that SAS AUSTRALIA show.  That might be a wake up call for his need for greater intensity and reduce his stress level for goal kicking.

Jack Watts rarely missed set shots.

Before the Weed came into the team we had Fritta trying to take speccy's in the goalsquare. Worst gameplan ever!

Weed comes in and Fritta is told to lead to a pocket. Missed many shots from there despite technically being a beautiful kick. Confidence was blown to smithereens.

Should have had 30-35 goals this year which would have been outstanding.

Wouldn't be surprised if other club's are sniffing around because I know his familiy haven't always been happy about how he has been used at Melbourne.

He's not soft but he is a dumb footy player.

He is the most infuriating player we have; it's not his fault he is the main forward alot of the time but he rarely leads at the footy, he tries to body out too much, he goes up for speccys with a childlike cadence, and he looks like a terrified kitten when lining up for goal.

Apparently, he takes 50 shots before the game. It isn't helping - he should stop doing that - he is obviously putting the weight of the world on himself every time he lines up for goal.

And he shouldn't put that pressure on himself - if he is the difference between us winning and losing then we don't have a very good team...

I am always harder on forwards but he really gives me the [censored].

Yep

It was in either the Richmond or Hawthorn game that the commentators were saying Fritsch's younger brother kicked 20-goals for the Coldstream Football Club that weekend (their hometown). Richo had a chuckle and stated it doesn't really count in the juniors (or at least to that effect).

I'm curious if any of you local footy diehards know any more about him (name, age, height etc) or this game (and division)? Is he worth keeping an eye and and inviting him to train with the VFL side?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.
