Trade rumours

Yeah that's a scary and indigestible thought. If there is one  totally unpalatable position it is the possibility that EFC will be leapfrog the Demons next year.  It stirs up all the worst possible feelings.

That happened this year!

Good. Then your theory of The Cheating Druggies going past us next year is lunatic rambling. I feel better now.

The men in the white coats will be here soon ??

Bliclavs had a stand out year but a poor one this season. My Geelong friend says that he lost a lot of mobility when he bulked up. He was previously a talented middle distance and steeplechase athlete. My friend feels his natural athleticism was sacrificed for bulk with a negative result on his game.

I felt this is what cost Aaron Davey his pace and some of his athleticism.

Guys, I'm begging you, if you have a rumor about a player, please put it in its own thread.  Some of us are busy & have to read thru pages & pages of opinions & arguments to find one or two rumors. It's driving me crazy. Pleeeeez. You can still present your views in seperate threads.

There should be a summary of all rumours at the head of each page, with a link to the post.

fill in the blanks for me @binman...I know nought about him.

Let me...I first raised McRae in this thread a while back when it was hitting the fan at the Doggies, people were talking Stringer and Gaff's name was being thrown around.

...but it was not a serious rumour more the type of player I would love us to have and I can't imagine the Doggies letting him go.

Still young, played junior footy with Viney (right age profile). A good outside mid, who gets a lot of ball and uses it pretty well (getting better with more experience). Not afraid to get his own ball, a good blend of inside and out and that's what I like in a so called outside mid..not lightning but quick and clever enough.

It will be interesting to see how the Bombers pull it off.  As you say, trading down for a couple of picks may help them complete the deal, but you also hope the Suns don't just fall for it easily and actually push them to include something else.

I'll also be interested to see if they can fit all 3 within their salary cap and if they need to trade other players to do it.

I reckon they might look at something like Francis & next years 2nd Round Pick to Port in exchange for them sending Impey & their 2017 1st Round Pick to the Dogs for Stringer & something else back to Essendon.

Pick 11 to GWS for Smith & Pick 23. Essendon may have to throw something else small in there.

As for Saad it's hard to say. Pick 28 would be enough, but GC may want players. Laverde maybe?

Good summary RJ. I'd add he is a smooth mover who has good vision. Is a good kick, but what I really like about his kicking is he is a surprisingly long and penetrating kick (looks effortless) who hits targets, which is something we really lack

Anyone worth targetting here from this vague 'on the couch' graphic DL? I wonder if Puopolo is gettable on a two year contract and if there is any discontent with the rumours about him as trade bait last year. Did not see any Hawk games this year, how did he go?

No way. We wouldn't get Macrae, and if we did we would be buying high. He was close to their best player this year. It makes no sense for us to chase Macrae. We could not even nearly afford him now. Our best bet is to look for the next Macrae (before he had a break out this year).

3rd in their B&F, he was runner up in 2014 after debuting in 2013.  Top ten in the other two years as well.  I would think he'd be close to being one of their untouchables or as you say we pay way over the odds.... unless he asks to be traded.  Don't know if he is OOC, but I suspect not.  There's upheaval in the kennel ATM and that maybe some leverage McCrae can use if he really wants out.

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
