You know what we need?  We need a Tier system.

What I mean by that is when a trade rumour is posted it needs to have a 'Tier' attached to it.

For example, if someone who has a good track record in the media of putting forward good information, then they are given a 'Tier 1' rating so we know that it's pretty legit and worth discussing.  Jay Clark, while some get annoyed with him, is normally pretty spot on with the stuff that he puts forward, so when he posts on Twitter or in the paper then you can be pretty sure it's legit.

On the flip side, if it's a rumour from a click bait site or one of those twitter accounts just fishing for some likes, then it can be given a 'Tier 3' rating so posters know it's pretty much rubbish and not worth our time.  The 3 way trade that included Hogan is a prime example of one of these, or the Twitter account that claimed it had the 'Jake Lever' decision and then, of course, had absolutely nothing.

Posters can also be linked to these as well.  Chook in Perth would be a 'Tier 1' as he has a good track record, GNF might get a 'Tier 2' as he has got a few and missed a few, while Brayshaw Self, who hasn't gotten one right yet, might get a 'Tier 3'.

I've seen other sites use this system and it helps to eliminate some of the stuff that is just silly.  I'm not saying it can't be discussed, but it allows us all to see the rumours for what they are.  At the moment it seems anything can be posted and some people will just gobble it up without even thinking.

Anyway, it's just an idea.  Not sure how it might work here but it's something to consider.

Personally I like the Chaos nature of it all.  The individual can take or leave it for all and anything they feel it's worth.

To accredit in some neo random fashion a reliance quotient upon any of it is just as foolhardy as not. i.e

as they say caveat emptor.  Who's to say anyone's  ability to ascertain any legitability is any more founded than the information offered ?

Some of the best snippets have in the past arrived upon strange saddles !!

let the games continue.

Maybe you need a holiday mate if you're going to get upset by rumors.

Fake or not it's just a rumor or movement hypothetical

Trade thread needs more.rumors and less people getting upset by said rumors

Ps - there's nothijg wrong with cslling out a rumor as bs... but it's just a rumor ffs we donr need truth police

We need a 'Wisebot' that detects if a demon player has been mentioned with another club, or if another player has been mentioned with the dees, it then scours all news websites and then posts a 'WARNING WARNING' disclaimer for each rumour based on the tier system you've coded for it. This would help ease your post-load and also help eliminate any creative hypothesizing over said rumours.  We'll clean this place up nice n good.

I know Gawn had an interrupted year, but we proved our game

I'm not sure that's true. Ruckmen are replaceable. Defensive readers of the play that can fill key positions are a lot harder to find.

I would disagree with this. You take Jacobs out of Adelaide and they are not the same team. Also look at Jolly at the Pies and Mummy at Sydney and even Giants, bith were pivotal to their successes.

I'm not angry by it and I'm surprised you've taken it that way.

I just thought it would help separate the good from the bad in terms of what is likely to be true and what is BS.  If you have time to deal in all of that then go for it, I just put forward a suggestion.  Nothing more.

Hilarious.  I'll remember to overlook your posts more often than you change your username in the future.

When we played Adelaide, Jacobs dominated the hit outs. Got something like 70 hit outs and Gawn didn't play, neither did Lever. We won easily.

I don't look in this thread for truth - I know people are having a lend of me or the person who is posting. I click on this thread looking for half baked rumours with a smidgen of truth and possibility.

Give. Me. Your. Rumours.

My suggestion wasn't to take anything away from this aspect, just gives you a little more background as to where it has come from and how reputable it is.

The posters that don't provide that will be judged accordingly. And I wasn't responding to your tiers - I was responding to the lack of rumours up in here.

C'mon people?! Someone go read bigfooty or something...

All good mate

Im not mad either.... i just dont think it needs to be pointed out in a rumour thread

More rumours needed....

In other threads @Wiseblood i 100% agree. But let's just leave it uncomplicated and just good or bad rumours

Max had a poor season after he came back from injury, but we still won more games with him than without him.

When fit and in form he is the best ruckman in the league, significantly better than Jacobs.

When Gawn came back from injury his contested marking appeared way down on early season and more-so last years form. Because of the injury it is hard to assess but maybe teams have worked out how to play him. He has a glaring weakness that he is not quick around the ground. Grundy destroyed him in the last game. I think he finished the season (on available form) as a mid tier (using the tier system) ruck.

I'm also open to a trade at top value, but if he stays (and I'm also happy with this outcome) he will need to work extremely hard over summer to improve his aerobic fitness if he is to improve on 2017.

Will he? I think so as he seems to understand he is only famous because he is a good footballer, but the high life is certainly a distraction for him as it probably was with Watts last off-season.

The point I was making was Lever's absence was more felt than Gawn's.

Paul Connors just said Salem won't be traded from Melbourne and that Adelaide asked for Petracca for Lever.  He followed up to say it was shot down straight away and that he loves Melbourne and wouldn't go anywhere.

No harm in trying I suppose.

this is getting really silly.........

On a more realistic note it is a great way of shifting the norm ... keep saying you want the moon and the stars and you will at least end up with the moon

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol
