Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

This weeks game against the Pies is going to show who is upto it individually and as a team.

Cant wait too see who grabs the bull by the horns...

I am sure Nathan Jones will be one of many.

I think the boys step up and get the job done. I am quitely confident..

Jones has been top notch the last couple of weeks, he can smell finals after all these years and is leading the charge

Ox, I cried, i had a shower and kept crying, tears of joy, I remember it so well, my wife thought I was mad. She was right.

That was one of the first few games I watch as a Dee's supporter (i was about 10) and still remember that game and the whole finals series. From memory we had to rely on Geelong to loose as well.

From Gary's broken leg to Brian Wilson's sealer it was an emotional day. Saturday maybe similar.

I have this feeling the Pies will come out very hard in the first quarter, they don't have anything to lose and I think their pride has been dented a lot with missing finals again.

If we match/beat them early I think we will get on top for the rest of the game.

I just don't want it to come down to the wire.

I'll hold you to that.

They're like us on steroids. Certain wins and you can put a cross next to their name.

Im a little inclined to think as possibly you might, that as Rooeys swansong the Toiges are in for a fight.

Dees by 5 goals.

The Pies will want to spoil the party, but we know what we're playing for and we'll want it more.  It might take us a little time to settle with plenty of nervous energy hanging around - a few scrubbed kicks, a dropped mark, a missed set shot - but we will settle in no time and keep them well at bay.

Not sure if I'd be able to wait for the Sunday evening result if we happen to lose on Saturday. That's a really nerve-wrecking wait!

How many season defining games is this in a row? 4? 5?

The Pies will have a decent team on paper and wont be easy (they nearly beat Geelong last week) and their seniors will only have De Goey, Greenwood, Scott Pendlebury, Ben Sinclair and Wells N/A.

But if we stick it to them early and dont switch off we should be too good in the end.

It's decent, but without Pendles, De Goey and Greenwood they lose some midfield depth.  Wells out hurts in that area, as does Varcoe.  What it should mean is that our mids can get on top and dictate the pace of the game.

Our backline has been terrific this year as well and the Pies don't score with ease, so if you turn up and play good footy we will have them covered.

What I'd like to see:

-bring in Pencil to free up Max to mark on the wing also allows TMAC to float between back/fwd with Hogan/Pedo in support

-bring in Salem to kick out and frees up Vince to tag Treloar

-drop Stretch and maybe Garlett

Bolded ones are no chance.  Bring Spencer in?  We don't want to go backwards.

It's a worry!

Adelaide have cemented a top two finish playing away against a desperate Weagles who just have to win.

Dees come up against a Collingwood side who have been decent without finishing the job. Have they one last push? Melb have lost a bit of their x factor with Garlett, Gawn, Petracca and others down. Salem, Frost and Watts being dropped and Viney hobbling on crutches.

Can we do it? Sure! Will we do it? Mmnn!

Adelaide are smart enough, unlike Ross Joyner of a couple of years back, to flirt with form.

Nobody wants to lose on the eve of finals.

That Freo team wasn't very good though - 10 wins and a % of 92, they lost their last 3 as well - wouldn't have done much even if they had made finals!

Just imagine how awful (and boring) that lot would have been under their current coach.

If you rank games on paper from hardest to easiest using say 1-4 last week against the Lions was a category 4 game. I rate the Pies as a category 3 game so it should be very winnable.

Why am I not overly confident... could it be because we just scraped home against the 18th team who also happened to be an interstate team that had not won at the MCG for quite a while.

Pies could go for a shoot out ... why not.... have little idea how we would fare if this happened but if Hogan kicks straight it could be interesting.

You're kidding.

if I could pick 2 outs it would be Pendles and Wells.

They're their maitch winners.

DeGoey is their rising star.

They'll miss Fasolo too.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
