"I honestly don't understand why we are pointing out negatives today."

Because for once as a club we aren't accepting mediocrity, hence us improving and wishing to improve.

Is today not an improvement on the past fortnight?

I can't believe the negativity on here.

For the first 10 minutes our skills were off but so were theirs - big game, pressure, understandable.

We clicked early and our pressure kept them out of it. We did what good sides do and put on early scoreboard pressure.

They got a ridiculous ride from the umpires in the third which brought them back into it (the frees for Longer against Gawn were inexplicable). But we steadied, like good sides do, and pulled away late.

Brayshaw was incredible for his first game back. Looked so settled. Lewis' best game this year IMO, contested ball was his strength. Oliver and Jones kept us level at the clearances and the back six (especially OMac and Hibberd) were terrific again.

Garlett copped Geary and struggled to shake him and Petracca is woefully out of form, but that just shows we have room for improvement.

Such a critical win for us. We're not there yet but we are so much closer.

Weideman did what he had to do and was invaluable today in the forward set up. Competed and fought hard.

Weid was a number today - that's about all.

I reckon he will make it but he has a lot to learn.  How to hold his position in a contest and where to lead/ place  himself are two obvious ones. Composure will also come with  experience.

Watts back next week for mine.

Much better but still doesn't mean we cant improve, which was my point.

Goodwin said at the press conference that he is a happy coach to have Sam Weideman in the forward line. Of course those that are negative on Sam on this thread have more understanding of the game than Goodwin. I don't think!!

I must have been watching a different game because I saw him get out marked repeatedly and struggling to make a contest and bring the ball to ground....  Add to that the fact he doesn't have the endurance to compete when the balls there to be won, he has no urgency when the balls in his area.. It's not his fault he's just not ready for AFL football yet

Fox footy disagree with you:

The Demons forward line thrived with multiple targets and the tackling pressure, and strong aerial work of Sam Weideman will likely keep Jack Watts out again.

Hannan... 5 kicks... 4 hand balls One tackle

As I said the two goals in the last saved his game

Weid and Wagner were woeful

Absolute rubbish. The team won the game. Each player did a lot of good things. Forget the stupid statistics.

Young player, of course he's going to pump him up. No point criticizing him achieves nothing. Thought he was average, Watts will be back in i'd imagine.

Shame on you negative supporters.  The game is about desire, tenacity and drive to overcome adversity.  The Mighty Dees did all of that better than their opponents today.

Not many I guess, who GAF what our coach says too I guess? "Sam Weiderman and Cam Person provided great aerial contest for us"

Again today we got savaged by umpiring decisions.  Trying to be objective but it's hard when Chamberlain pulls out some total [censored] head clangers.  Noticed a screaming mad dog saints supporter losing his last 3 hairs...one Francis Leach!!!  Made my day!

Probably just want to create a headline more so about Watts not getting back in... Others may disagree but I don't think Weidemen is up to it yet it

Usually I would blast my 9 year old son when he uses inappropriate language but I couldn't help but laugh when Chamberlain plucked a free from the moon for the Saints and my son yelled out " look dad, it's the midget pr*ck again."

To the Saints supporter sitting behind me today - the one who belatedly found his voice in the 3rd qtr on the back of Razor's charity and shouted "you're nuthin' but soft cnts, Melbourne, and have been for 10 years" - I hope you enjoyed my daughter's post-chips farts as I held her aloft time and again in the last!

ummm, why?

You don't find it concerning that it takes until the opposition ruck is off to score the winning goals, if our mids can't win with out Gawn dominating we wont be going very far

He actually shouted me a couple of beers, he bought a $2 dollar ticket from the demon army for the first goal scorer fund raiser and his ticket had Viney on it. He won $20, good day out for the kid.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
