Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Pleased I couldn't follow this game at all. Was flat knacker feeding Bill Shorten and 850 of his mates. I decided to check the result in the afternoon so as not to have the anxiety of how we went distracting me during dinner service. My crew were looking at the scores too hoping for a Dees win to avoid getting a spray. I look after my team - I let loose on the wait staff - 850 meals delivered in 34 mins!

So thanks for one thing, MFC, giving me a bit of rage to channel productively- perhaps you could try that sometime?

And relieved I didn't have to blind-watch the recorded game until 2am for such a shitty result.

So deflating.

Out of interest, is Manuka Oval anything like Blundstone or whatever the [censored] it's called? Continuity with the conditions for next week? Or am I clutching at straws?

We'll probably beat GW$ knowing us ?

The only way I can describe our footy yesterday was DUMB. Skill errors and slipping over aside we played stupid footy The last quarter demonstrated this when only a goal down we thaught we had won the game with the breeze. I don't know what watts was up to at the start of the last quar.ter but he stood there like a stunned mullet instead of bombing it to the goal square. In yesterdays conditions we should have gone long into the forward line. The loss of Hogan was bigger than what some people think.

Unless we can pull off a win against GWS next week we wasted a year in Hobart.

Just wanted to echo other people's opinions about Blundstone arena. It's an absolute dump of a ground by AFL standards. A glorified bush league venue.

The lines about 30 metres to take a slash. Don't even think about getting a beer or something to eat until about the 20 minute mark of each quarter. The wind spoils what could've been a good game of footy. And credit to North, they use the conditions to their advantage and. It's a genuine home ground advantage as evidenced by a 10 goal win over this year's likely premiers.

I'm going to be livid if the AFL schedule us down there a 3rd year in a row. I hope we're not requesting to play down there.

As for the performance, I thought ANB, Watts, Petracca and Hannan in particular were a disgrace.

Can not disagree more demonlad.

This season we have developed players, had injuries and suspensions to key players and we r still fighting for a finals spot

The neeld era and pre neeld was a waste of 10 yrs.

If we miss the finals it will be disapointing but not a waste of a yr imo.

Blundstone sucks, we didn't handle the conditions well and we allowed North to dictate the play.  We'll continue to learn from it.

For us at the moment we need our bottom six helping out, and we didn't get that at all yesterday.  Hannan didn't register a kick, while guys like Trengove, Melksham (he did snag 2 goals) and ANB didn't impact the contest often enough to give us that edge.

We need to win 3 of our last 4 from here, and we can most certainly do that.

And because I love a positive:

I think it's become very clear, if it hasn't already, that we probably have the best young player under 21 on our list in Clayton Oliver.  Look at these for stats from a kid of 20 years of age:

33 touches, 12 tackles, 26 contested possessions, 12 clearances and 1 goal.  The crazy thing is that he is doing this most weeks.

This kid let's his football do the talking, and while he is still learning to mature and will have his moments, his year has been unbelievable for a kid of his age and I'm so stoked we have him at our club.  I feel as though he is already one of, if not the, best players to walk through our doors in a very long time.

Disgusting effort but we were one Oliver run down from potentially winning. I'm seriously angry about this loss. Our forward 50 entries have been abysmal for about a month now, coach should have fixed up weeks ago. Also not shifting T McDonald back when they were booting with the gale is beyond comprehension really.

And despite those incredible stats seems to go unnoticed and probably won't be in the votes despite dominating the game.

Man, that is an absurd performance.  Of course it will go completely under the radar, but if it was a 19-20 year old from Essendon doing it they'd be talked up by the media as the next great of the game.

What happened to Hogan exactly? How long is he going to miss?

Broken collarbone, having surgery today.  Goody says it doesn't mean season over though.

Though if you do a quick search on broken collarbone surgery recovery times, it seems to be 6-8 weeks. Seems hes he might be done for 2017.

Seriously they are doing scans and Goodwin said he might be back this year

Cheers.

Poor bastard can't take a trick this year.

At least we know what to do when he's not there, maybe a morbid blessing in disguise structure wise?

Not sticking a player on Ben Brown who was always going to hurt us is a big black mark against Goodwin.

Half way through the first quarter you could see the zone wasn't working and in those conditions a bit of back to basics football was required.

Goodwin's style of play on at all costs (even if an opponent is next to you) is fine at Etihad but in slightly difficult conditions it totally breaks down.

TMac should have just stayed at the scoring end of the ground the entire game.

Like Nasher, I was at the ground and thought Lewis played well. There was a demon supporter behind me who shouted out '[censored] off back to Hawthorn Lewis!' so maybe I missed the bad things

When you hit the front with a 4 goal wind behind you in the last quarter and lose that it attitude, we expected to win and the wind will do it for us.  Then we get behind with 4 mins to go panic sets in, it turned real ugly, it wax already bad but that last 4 minutes of football was a complete disgrace

Is Greg Stafford still ruck coach

Max Gawn is a real concern, his tap work is off or mids not on same page and around the ground is having no impact

I spoke to a doctor this morning and she surprised me by stating that it could be as little as two weeks. Certain sounds like finals and maybe as early as Collingwood or even the Lions. ?

Gerrard Healy said he could play with a plate in in possibly 3 weeks. COuld then have it taken out over summer.

Ling Jong came back after 2 weeks with the same injury to be BOG and win the Grand Final for the Footscary VFL team (against Casey unfortunately).

Did a google search: Greg Hoy was the surgeon.  I wonder who Jesse has?

So it isn't unrealistic to have Jesse back in round 22 (3 weeks recovery) or round 23 (4 weeks recovery).

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
