Casey Demons v Coburg

KC from Casey

Recommended Posts

With Hogan out Weids could be a big chance next week. Great effort from him.

As an MFC fan Casey winning this weekend is so important given that pathetic loss we suffered yesterday. While I'd caution swinging the axe big time, this puts players on notice.

Good win Casey.

Looking forward to Plapp's report.  Weeds and Maynard in particular.  I could see the Weids this week for Hogan, and Maynard in for a home game debut the week after?

Would love it if he was! I suppose I had drawn a bit of a line through him for this year, but if he kicks the door down and is ready to go, he would certainly fit back in.  I also look forward to what Plapp has to say on him, then, too!

I hope that KC or Plapp can give an answer - is Gus genuinely pressing for senior selection and if so how soon? Next week particularly given yesterday's poor game

Love the look of that. Maynard must be a massive chance to debut in the next week or two.   Brayshaw might return too.

Keilty in the bests for the second game in a row, good for him.

A few thoughts on the game, and take this with a grain of salt because I am biased and have had a few.

As for the overall game, Casy weren't bad, Coburgs game style and pressure just destroyed them for the first 3 quarters, but the extra fitness and hardness that AFL listed players bring allowed them to dominate the last quarter

As for individual players:

Weideman- kicked 3 goals 3, shoulda kicked 6 straight. Missed 3 relatively easy goals but did some amazing work in the aireal contest, and I mean took some unbelievably marks today, did some amazing running around the ground and I would not be surprised if he comes in to replace Hogan

Maynard- He's form has been amazing, was easily best on ground and I'd expect him to get a senior debut this year. He is clean around the contest, hits it hard and has great speed. A great pickup from the MFC

Brayshaw- wasn't as prolific as last week but is showing good signs he is coming back into his best, did make a few errors today but his gut running was outstanding

Pederson- took some good marks and had a few great tackles but he butchered the ball a lot and if I were Melbourne selectors I'd choose Weideman over Pedo going off today's game

Spencer- was great in the ruck today against a decent opponent, took some good marks and was good at ground level, fumbled a bit but might be an option if they want to tryout the Gawn/Spencer combo

Keilty- continues to develope and build on his game, took 3 or 4 crucial contested grabs and attacked the ball at ground level well but also made a few mistakes under pressure, give Dec another pre season and he might just become a great key position player

Other good players- Strech seemed to be big around the ball today and Wagner got onto a lot of loose balls and had a big impact. Dion Johnstone also had a huge second half, had a few great moments up forward and laid some big hits and tackles . Mitch King probably played the best game of his year, dominated the ruck and took some impressive marks

The not so good- Good to see Hulett back in the VFL but was pretty quiet, I doubt he'll go on much further. Kennedy was also pretty disappointing today

If I've missed anyone let me know and I'll try to answer your questions

For the VFL listed players, Fristch was again outstanding today, missed a few easy goals but his hands for a shorter player are insane and do not be surprised to see him on an AFL list next year. Jack Hutchins was great as the general in defence today also, Ferreira had some  nice moments

Thays just my 2 cents

Drunkn, do you think Maynard has the game now to be able to step into AFL level and contribute?

I have no doubt that his age and size will help a great deal but wondering about how his 'game' will hold up in the ones.

Cheers

It's hard to say, I don't confess to have any idea about what actually goes on inside an AFL club and I laugh at the fact that so many supporters think they know what is best, but from what I've seen and from other players who go in between the VFL/AFL system, he has an insane natural sporting ability, as shown by his time playing basketball in the United States, and I think he could absolute hold his own against the best

Great stuff mate, cheers for that. Question re the Weid - did he/has he been doing any ruckwork in the VFL, or just playing as a key forward? And as a forward, is he more stay at home, or roaming up the ground a bit?

Did a little ruck work early in the season but none since King/Spencer has been back, always got killed.

Depends on the team they play, but he does a bit of both staying at home and roaming up the ground, hard to pick between the two

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
