Media Re-focus - are we Top 4

Missed the first 1/2 of seven news tonight so presumably Clarry was a lead story...BUT

The main AFL news at the back had serious time on the club, and importantly, this lead angle was about this is a tough month that will decide are we Top 4.,  from Mark Stevens.

Not  - will we make the 8 ?  Why is this important.?

Just thought this was interesting , but more fodder for self belief on what's possible and the image of a club going somewhere.

The payoff is the reinforcement of the concept now the Demons are a " destination " club..

All this talk about the top 4 and winning the premiership is over the top.

Tbh I am just want to make the 8 first then look at where we finish.

We cannot get ahead of ourselves cause we all know what happens then.

I don't think we will finish Top 4, but at the same time we deserve to be in the conversation for finishing there.  On our day, and without so many injuries, we can beat any of them and if I were the other 7 clubs in there at the moment I'd be worried about playing us come September.

We may not make it due to circumstances out of our control, but if we can win 1 of our next 2 games against two Top 4 sides then we are right in the hunt.

Having said that I'll be content with making finals this year!

Who cares what the media say? Seriously forget it. Let our work on the field do the talking. Everything else is pap.

I think we are good for another 3-4 wins. If that gets us top 8 I'll be happy. Any extra wins are probably a bonus from where we are

To make top 4 we have to win 15/16 games which means we probably need to win 6/7 of our remaining 7 games.

To make it with less would require Port, Richmond and Saints to all have a lesser run and then there is Sydney .. one game behind us with a better percentage.

I just cannot see it happening

Actually 14 wins with good % should get you in the top 4 this year. The key would be beating Port in addition to winning 4 other games. Certainly not impossible.

Brisbane, Filth, Aints and Norf are one's we have to win to be any chance of pushing for top 4 (and more importantly, also securing us a finals birth).

We'd need to win 2 out of Crows, PA and GWS to make the top 4. Probably beyond us, but you never know.

We're probably more likely to take a scalp from those 3 and drop one against a team we should beat.

Jesus this is so much better than talk of delistings and draft picks.....

Haven't cared about the draft for 2 years now. Didn't know too many player's in last year's draft, know even less in this years draft. The only kids i have really heard of are Rayner and Davies-Uniacke.

It's nice not to look at the draft until draft day!

I'm just glad we have improved, which is what i was hopping for this year; so any thing from here on in is a bonus:D

Not a hell of a lot football-wise.  I'm pretty sure the posters on this board getting ahead of themselves will have little to no impact upon the team.

This argument falls in deaf ears, Ralph.

There's posters on this forum who actually believe that the root cause of us being irrelevant for so long is because the fans don't "demand better".

Collectively, we highly overrate our own influence on the club, even if some of us individually facepalm at the notion.

Fans, members, supporters: get as carried away as you want! Dream of a 2017 flag and share it with your fellow Demons if you want. The only thing at stake is your own emotional wellbeing; you are welcome to gamble on that if you want.

We are as likely, if not more, to miss the finals altogether than make the top 4.

I'm confident, though, that so long as we finish in the top 8 we can do damage. We can win a final from 8th, even if we are on the road (6-1 away from the G this year and 3-0 interstate so far).

only a couple of years ago we knew not only the names but heights weights and positions of every kid looking to go top 50. last year all of a sudden - no care factor... in Taylor we trust (fark he's been a huge get!) no need to fret our recruiters can do they're job. Even less care factor about the draft this year - only thoughts going forwards are how do we get Lever across and can we snag Jones jnr as well, all safe in the knowledge we will get the best kids we can.. not reach for someone that will still be available 2 rounds later.....

I had another crack at the ladder predictor and had us finishing 3rd behind gws and crows. I thought there's no way that's possible until I noticed who was in 9th.  Yep, you guessed it, tigers. It's a sign, it must be right, get excited people!

The negatives will denounce our garbage management until the cows come home

The happy clappers will pronounce the past decade was all about heading towards the here and now.

It all means fark all when viewed through the Roos/Goodwin/Taylor lense.

If this team has a full list available, playing our brand of footy, at 100% for an entire game, we can raise the cup THIS YEAR, not next, or the one after that.

Times over the past decade, I honesty doubted I would ever think that again.

Its nice to put your arms around the missus, and scream your team home more often than not.

Party time 9 times this year and counting.

Happy days.

Lucky you.  My missus won't even sit in the same room as me while the demons are playing.

My wife has turned to power off at the mains once to curtail my lunacy. I was getting a bit overwrought and emotional. It wasn't my fault though it was some umpires fault.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.

The Demons return to town fresh off a thumping win over the back-to-back wooden spooners, the West Coast Eagles, played in front of a sparse crowd at Marvel Stadium, the same venue that hosted last week's heartbreaking loss.
