Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

If ever anything could bring our players and coaches together more, it would be this weeks result.

Even this far out, there looks to be some real bonds being established here, even though  i can only sense them from what is visible on TV. Maybe this is what is worrying the scornful media and opposition so much. They can feel the love, and they are not part of it.........

I don't usually watch "Talking Footy" on 7mate, but thought I'd tune in tonight on the back of a great victory.

Without exaggeration, with 8 minutes to go (after ad break) they haven't complimented Melbourne.  The first part of their program was all about what's wrong with the Dogs.  I wasted an hour.

That's what I was eluding to yesterday ProDee you think your going to get anything positive about the Dees out of Carey, Watson and the team you just wiped the floor with Darcy no chance.

Still don't rate Melbourne.

Just watched on the couch replay - good old Jonno Brown continues to pump us up. David Kind even brought up a graph titled 'premiership contenders?' (Notably though, showing we are #1 pressure side).

what with the nature of this season and the fleeting form lines of all teams, perhaps a tightly fitting lid is called for...

Lots of time 4 Johnno Brown.

Buckley on Footy Classifieds is so bitter about us... said "they played a good 4 quarter game last week. They had to". Then went on to say "they are only a game ahead of the Dogs"

Bitter Buckley. Bitter. I love it!

I don't mind this at all. Buckley needs to talk to his own supporters and board - and Eddie! Of course he is going  to say that about us. I really enjoy annoying the Pies....

Something overshadows us every time we get a decent win, some sort of scandal, or Richmond losing the unlosable or the team we beat is in crisis because they lost to us. So we get some small mention at best. That Talking Footy [censored] is the worst, I assume it'd be like a wake tonight with Darcy, like Classified was last week with Bucks.

360 is usually ok for a bit of a pump up.

Hasn't anyone noticed that whenever we beat someone, they are immediately put into crisis mode.

You will know we have arrived when they simply accept it as the usual which is not too far off actually I reckon.

Anyone else feel we had a certain extra maturity on the weekend? It's probably because we did.

Total games per team:

Melbourne 2050 d. Western 1877

I'm aware of how easily altered the figure can be by the inclusion of a single Jordan Lewis for example, but it's become a fairly reliable predictor of our results as the season has settled in.

Melbourne 2028 d. Collingwood 1658

Melbourne 1984 d. Gold Coast 1446

North Melb 2296 d. Melbourne 1895

Melbourne 1873 d. Adelaide 2186

Hawthorn 2959 d. Melbourne 1860

Melbourne 1921 d. Essendon 1864

Richmond 1750 d. Melbourne 1611

Fremantle 1876 d. Melbourne 1588.

We had 1492 games of experience vs. Geelong's 2279 so have added over 550 since round 3. But West Coast went in with 2760 games vs. Geelong (2422) last week, so our only real hope is if Jones, Watts and Hibberd come up, and Garland and Trengove come in to replace Oscar and Hunt . . .

Sorry mate but this has been overplayed and is wrong. Bugg bumped Easton Wood after the goal, it was cheeky but not free kick worthy, Wood got him back and clearly hits him in the face with a round arm while bumping him from behind. That's too high and a free kick every day of the week. Bugg milked it but he also bled from the face so he milked it a lot less than both Cripps and Rowe against our players.

Brad Johnstone* clearly finds Bugg annoying and so failed to point out the high contact in the commentary but it was clear as day at the ground and the right decision. Stupid act from Wood who should've just bumped him back without smacking him in the face.

Don't buy into the Bugg-haters, it was a clear free kick and if it had happened to one of the media favourites they would be screaming for a suspension for high contact outside the play. The MRP would've suspended a MFC player for 3 weeks if they'd done it, but hey, everyone can see that double standard.

Edit: Brad Johnstone sooking it up about the Bugg hit not Johnno Brown

Didn't say it was a wrong call, free kick was there. But bugg set him up for it and wood fell for it. I bet but was grinning like a cat  with wood on top of him knowing that he sucked him in

I suspect Ron might have been a lil tongue in cheek there at the end.

Suspect the fortunes of puppy land burnt all too bright. Landed them a cup ( drool ) but it's flash in the pan stuff. The dishlickers are now back to fighting over bones.

Very hard to keep purposeful momentum. They dont have Macca anymore. An irony is the pups would bleed for Bevo, but Macca was/is a better footy whisperer.

That Bulldog jumper is unraveling by a string

That hadn't struck me to be honest. Interesting. The aberration almost more.

It looked like the Dees were auditioning for a film about Viking raids.

Without doubt, experience helps.

Was evident when the Dogs had their tantie in the second and threw everything at us, kicked a couple, and we calmly continued with the business of spanking them...

I don't have strong memories of Geoff (or Jeff).

McClure is an old Xav and friend of my Nephew.

He's constantly ragged on SEN mornings by Lyon and I sense they see him as a kid with not much clue.

My bad, i thought his dad was Mark McClure.

You're right about him getting stick from Lyon, though i don't usually listen to SEN 9i actually quite like RSNs footy discussion).

Even on Talking Footy the others seem pretty dismissive of him - but to be fair to Sam that might be the standard 'you've never played at the elite level like us' routine ex players seem to love so much. Also risible.

Yes, his Father Geoff McClure was a sports journalist who died in 2010.

Just watched the replay for about the 10th time - magnificent performance, and made the visit to the-venue-that-must-not-be-named a totally different experience!

But Hudson's commentary? The most biased pro-Footscray commentary. Watts goal early in Quarter 3 "What a disaster!" - Brown corrected him "But good news for Melbourne"

That sort of stuff all the way through

I thought he was Hawthorn?

Commentators don't like it when all their brainless stereotypical cliches are rendered useless. They're not ready for an aggressive, skilled and successful MFC.

Makes their brains hurt.

I agree he really annoyed our household with his biased call, he is a staunch cats man, almost as bad as Blights call during the 2000 final against carlton that still rankles me when I re-watch it. LOL111

agreed, but the afl (now it's theirs) really need to offer a better seating deal to visiting teams, especially when they know it won't be a sellout

Hudson is actually one of he best commentators, his commentary was fine.

Having Brad Johnson in there was painful on the other hand.

Agree both, Clint. Johnson was a great player, but can't hide his dogginess. BTW, did you enjoy Dom Tyson's goal on Sunday? Hit it bang on the 50 metre line, landed it by my rough count 7 rows back. So what, 60-65 metres? Makes him comfortably one of the longest kicks at the club I'd reckon. Whaddya say? Oh, no tail wind either ?

Reckon Melksham would contest for longest kick, his deep kick, start of the third, that Watts marked in the goal square was also a 65+ metre bomb.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
