Spencer must surely go down as the biggest list clogger in the history of the AFL?

How long's he been on the list and the Football Department still don't even have faith in him to ruck at Senior Level?

What a joke that we've held onto him as long as we have and they would prefer to go into an 8 point match with a 193cm journeyman and very little structure.

Form and fitness would also be a factor; he's had a long lay-off.

Strikes me as a player who needs to be in top form to impact at AFL level and we saw that in the pre-season comp and the couple of matches he played before the injury.

In addition, perhaps Goodwin is reluctant to mess with a winning formula.

I'm surprised by the no change.

We do seem to be playing small  with Pedo as a "Collingwood " ruckman.

Goodwin is building a game based on lightning speed.

I still think there is plenty of room for Hogan and Gawn. When Joel Smith gets back we will be incredibly fast.

Would be tough to drop someone from the win but Spencer is hardly a walk up start.

I thought (with absolutely no confidence) that Spencer would play.  I hope it's just because it's because he was slow to blow out the cobwebs last week in the VFL, because I don't like the alternative.

I can only think that if he's literally not back up to speed around the ground then he'd be more a hindrance than a help.

Bit of die rolling though

Thanks.

Any recommendations. I usually sit near the wing at the G

A lot of level 3 around the wings is reserved.

Generally the unreserved seating is behind the goals. Best advice is get there early and ask the attendants as sometimes it is only the forward section of level 3 that is reserved thus allowing you to sit up the back.

Will be interesting to see if level 2 is only half full. The AFL really need to address the absence of patrons in the best seats !!

Few people have explained in my thread on the 2nd page. Wing would be the best bet up there get in early though.

We have no changes this week and that's after only 1 change last week. Must be the most settled we've been in a long time.

Compare that to the Dogs who made 5 changes this week after 7 last week against the Swans. (Only 2 of this week's changes are players coming back from the week before so it is a total of 10 changes across the 2 weeks.)

So this week 5 changes vs 0. And across 2 weeks 10 vs 1.

Settled Dees vs very unsettled dogs. Why does that leave me feeling unsettled about our chances on the weekend?

No change.  Goody will be looking for a monster effort from the 22 off the 6 day break and I reckon the boys will deliver.

We will then surely see some player management over the coming weeks with all the short breaks.

Given the Dogs don't have a huge ruck presence, i don't mind Spencer's non-selection. He will more than likely be selected for the game next week and depending on how Max is tracking, will probably make way for him against the Swans to following Friday.

Given we then have a 9 day break, it allows Max enough time to recover from his first game in a while, but if he doesn't, Pencil is good insurance to come in if Gawn needs a bit more time to recover.

Roughhead and Boyd, I think this week will be the biggest thrashing we will have in the ruck without Gawn and Spenc.

It all depends on us winning at the fall of the ball, like most weeks since they have gone down.

Peds might start but Tmac will spend a lot of time in the ruck this week.

11 weeks is a lifetime in footy.

Spencer went from being a 'list clogger' who would never be played unless Gawn got injured, to good insurance when Gawn eventually got injured, to a disaster and a reason to recruit a third pure ruckman when he got injured himself, to an afterthought when we played fine without a recognised ruckman, and, finally to being a 'list clogger' again because we don't need a 2nd pure ruckman behind Gawn.

And breathe...

I'm quite happy with the fact we've gone in unchanged. Monday was a character building win for the team and so now they get the chance to back it up.

This will be a great chance for our ball winners to show what they've got. I think this will be a very even contest.

To be fair he's second fiddle to all Australian. Hes an average second ruck. What about the other 2 young rucks we have in development? You could argue the club has no confidence in them either.

Its not just the ruck issue. Pedo belongs up frwd without Hogan.

It was in the context of my response, but yes hopefully Peds will be an even better asset once he can move to fwd line full time. He finally looks like penny has dropped after the ultimatum preseason.

Hopefully he stays focussed from here on, it has been enjoyable to see him compete.

Get a bucket then as it's going to happen.  I believe they do it to preserve him so he can do more of the rucking in the second half.

Just hope we are not too far back by the time the change is made WB. Last week you could see before half time the switch was going to made at the half, might have to happen earlier Sunday.

I am pleased they are not playing Gawn, and I hope they leave him out next week too.  Our priority must be having him cherry ripe for September, and not risk his return until he is 100%.

The 2nd order issue is how we cover the ruck in gawn's absence.  I presume next week at Subiaco spencer will get a game.   It is bad luck for him that the pedo experiment (and roving the opposing rucks taps) has gone so well.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
