And, yes, it does

Wow.. sorry Jumbo but thats enough for now. FWIW it didn't stop Jones, Tyson, Oliver, Jetta going in hard right till the end of the game.

Your the master of excuses for Jacky boy. Love him aswell but 2 weeks in a row he's had poor games. He now needs to lift. Hes coming up to his 150th game so my expectation on him is very high at the moment.

Haven't read the thread yet, but wanted to say this before I forget. Apologies if someone has already made this point:

After this game, I assume it is now ok to:

- Punch a player in the guts.

- Trip a player as they attempt to play on

- Punch a bloke in the face as long as you hold their jumper

- Jump on a player's back after they've been paid a mark

Playing catch up football is the way to dusty death.

Tomas Bugg kicks four goals instead of four points, we win.

I despair, sometimes.

If just 2 of the blatant trips while we were on the attack were called, we might have kicked 2 more.  If two incidents that we should have been given 50m were called properly, we could have won.  The facts are that we are right in it, not a long way off.  The time will come.

I thought Dom Tyson had his best game of the year.

I have been saying it for a few weeks but I think Tyson is slowly working his way into a good bit of form. He seems to have got that sidestep back and finds space through traffic more and more each week. His kicks are also getting better and better. Here's hoping it continues.

Love how Watts gets potted after every loss on this forum

Awesome

I'm a big Watts fan and supporter, but he was woeful yesterday. Did not attack contests, and went half arsed into tackles and chases. Maybe his body is tiring from so much ruck work, but really it's no excuse. He has played almost 150 games, and is one of the most experienced players in our side. He should do better.

Having said that, he was not alone. Lots of very disappointing performances last night!

We still leak goals. Our defence plays a man down with Oscar.

It's not Oscar. I can't understand why supporters have such tunnel vision that they think all our woes begin and end with 1 player. Oscar did OK under the circumstances against a much much bigger and more experienced opponent.

The problem is our defensive structures. I don't like our zone defence, we are too easy to score against from a single turnover, and it kills us. We won ONE game at the G this year, that's deplorable. We can't switch fast enough on big grounds, and we've gone from being a defensively sound team, to being incredibly easy to score against on the counter attack. It's very disappointing and very worrying.

Goodwin needs to fix this and fast. If we can't win games at the G, we can't ever play or win finals. Simple.

No he wasn't alone at all, Jones Oliver Garlett were poor as well. The point im was trying to make is that i have huge expectation on Watts. He's had 1 good year in his whole career and i don't think its unfair if supporters have a higher expectation on Jack more so then someone like a Nathan Jones. As you said hes close to 150 games, but he played like a school kid yesterday.

The key outs, the umpiring (or lack thereof), and North's pressure and tackling were all factors (they played pretty well), but when you start a game for the first 15 minutes without any intensity or effort, and then the same thing happens in the first 15 minutes of the third quarter, there is clearly a mental issue that is causing those lapses. Whether that's a "developing group" problem (IMO it's not they should be hungry at the start of a game) or a leadership issue, I'm not sure but it needs to be addressed and quickly. Soft between the ears for mine. If you're fired up and confident and aggressive then the results come. If you can't be arsed, yesterday happens.

Kents soft shirk of the contest in the last quarter when we were surging was [censored] diabolical. Should be dropped for at least 3 weeks for that and the match effort.

Soidee and myself mentioned this earlier in the thread, that happened right in front of me and I was in total disbelief that a man built like that wouldn't take one for the team. It was a pivotal moment for mine. Most on here have great views on the game but in reality, to allow North 13 scoring shots in the first quarter was probably where we lost the game. Our boys worked so hard to get back as they have all year and that leaves no margin for error so I expect mistakes by foot or hand as the risk is higher. Don't forget, we trailed the Crows by 28 and everything came off that night, yesterday it didn't.

While yesterday was hugely disappointing and hurts a lot, I am trying to take a glass half full approach. We are a better side than North and should have won, but with the competition so close, unexpected losses and unexpected wins will happen (e.g. losing against North, winning against Adelaide).

The absence of Gawn and Hogan is really being felt and if I told you that they’d only play for 3 and 4, respectively, of the first 12 games before the season started, you would have felt our chances were obliterated entirely – but they aren’t. We have been competitive in all our matches and have found ourselves in a winning position in every match. And ultimately, whilst our inconsistency does raise doubts, we still can make finals.

The reality of our situation is that we are still an inexperienced side and our winning culture still needs to be nurtured and developed before we can be considered a serious side. However, all it takes is one win for everything to click and I do believe that win will come this season. When it comes, it may be just enough time for us to string some games together and make finals, and it may be too late but will set us up well for a strong chance in 2018.

We’re steering in the right direction and this will be the team and Goody will be the coach to break our premiership drought.

NB: it will be the team once we have added either May or Lever to our back-line ;)

I hear ya Jaded but go back have another look. Watch how Oscar plays on Brown etc ( or doesn't !! )

Oscar brings a new meaning to 'catch up footy '

Actually i did to. Hence my comments earlier that he looked ill.

I thought that too.

He actually did quite well a couple of times when he went into the ruck (mainly because when he was in the ruck he wasn't constantly being held off the ball), but was only there for about 3 minutes at a time.

A good reality check - not happy with a loss, I still see progress.

Get up for the next two rounds (collingwood will be a real bloody good test) and we are in with a sniff.

I've seen enough progress this year (whats being the maximum loss by (4 goals??)) to be pretty content going forward.

Not that I am inherently an optimistic person.

Also, for those that can't stand Goodwin riffing about being in a developmental phase - what would you like him to say?

"We made errors, at costly times, and its our role as coaching staff to consistently work on this from an intellectual, physical and strategic perspective, to ensure that we as a team don't do this?" - well, that's what they do day in day out anyway.

I really feel some of us (understandably) want perfection out there on a moment to moment basis. One thing you can't fault throughout this season, has been the energy and the effort throughout games...

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.
