At least they were nice enough to not put in 2 rucks.

Hopefully Bellchambers runs out of petrol in the second qtr. He's had an injury interrupted pre season and hasn't played since 2015.

Thats good news.  Didn't realise he was one of the 34 and its his first game back.  We need to run him off his feet.

Extended bench is Salem, Tyson, Stretch, OMac, Bugg, Harmes and Weid.

Can't see Tyson, Stretch or Salem (lol) being dropped. Think one of Weid or OMac (but not both) has to play - Weid for the Pedersen ruck scenario, or OMac for the TMac (Pedersen forward) scenario.

That only leaves a Bugg for Harmes scenario - not a clear upgrade for mine so I wouldn't bother, but don't care one way or the other.

Won't be surprised if Billy misses

Ugly team. But not terrible. There's a lot of talent in every pocket. Hunt along the wing is a good move. I actually think our backline is nicely structured. Lewis, Frost and Vince is a nice half-back line. McDonald worries me on Daniherpes, I assume Jetta will run with McDonald-Tipencantspellit and I think he'll beat him out. Hibbert can go to Goddard.

Our forward line just seems...wrong. It's not that I don't like any of the players, but Watts is far more damaging when playing deeper. Not confident in that half-forward line. I wonder how OMac will be used.

I see Melks is 'named' on the wing - does a reduction in defensive positioning free him up to be more...um....useful?

Coach's favourite will play wherever he wants, provided he doesn't have to lay a tackle

Surely we'd be better with Frost on Daniher than Frost in the ruck.

Someone has to relieve Pedders.

If its Watts, we will be barren up forward.  And Trac is no certainty to play.

Love your enthusiasm BA but sadly half a century of the opposite from the MFC leaves me with here we go again.

I would dearly love for you so say " I told you so on Sunday night"

It's like witnessing drive-by negativity. On every thread, OD.

T. Mac going forward would be a serious option now, surely. Didn't he nearly win us the game against this mob a couple of seasons ago when moved there?

At least he can match it with Hurley for strength since we have no one with considerable size left to go forward.

If Daniher is going to have a day out it won't matter who's down back for us.

Nope. That was Garland. And he did win it for us. Three goals.

I expect Pederson will ruck and T-Mac will follow Daniher in.

Good thought.  IF Tommy plays his best and negates Daniher all day -- even following him to the bench when he goes there -- then we are in with a real chance.

Nah it was T mac and we lost.

I don't remember that. I only remember Col Garland kicking two or three in 2012 and beating Essendon.

Oh yeah that was a classic.  THink he was referring to the 2015 game when T Mac went forward in the last quarter and peppered away at the goals, managing one from 4 or 5 shots.

I envy you for not remembering losses to Essendrug, I wish I could wipe them all from the memory.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
