I'd argue it's your bias that's at play here. As with so many Demonlanders, you fail to see the mistakes and only hold onto the fact that Jones stuck by us through the crap. That's not a good reason.

Every one makes mistakes when someone is bias they only see the mistakes and ignore the good things, he done more good then bad, it's not the mistakes it how a player still goes hard at the ball, and don't kid yourself if Jones was not in the best 22 then Goodwin will not play them, 27 touch's and 1 goal is overall a good game, if everyone got dropped for making a few mistakes no one would play more the 2 games a year, no one is perfect.

Jones hasn’t been great this year as a whole but his last two weeks have been very good. He’s lifted his intensity in the clinches and was instrumental to our last two wins particularly WC. 

Just my opinion from what I’ve seen though. 

On Lewis it is quite funny to think just a few weeks ago there were calls on here to get him to his 300 and then drop him never to return. Like Jones his year as a whole has been average with a few good performances but again like Jones the last two weeks he’s been solid as a rock and exactly the experience we need going into the finals.

I think he has been better than average. He has held that backline together all year after losing Lever and also Hibberd for a bit. He gets marked on a curve but he is a role player and has been executing that role well all year.

Yeah fair call, better than average would be a fair assessment. I think there would be things that us armchair experts miss that are crucial to the team.

Lewis may not be tossing the coin over the next week(s) but he will be leading from the front. 

We know he sent player emaisl after WCE win to say: 'we play to win finals, not just to make the finals'.  Then it was reported that players asked coaches and staff to leave the meeting room after the GWS win.  Unsurprisingly it was Lewis who drove that.  Michael Hibberd today said: '...(Lewis)... is a good guy to ask about the situation we’re in. He spoke to us in the rooms about the week coming up, [telling us] to prepare well.”

I've also heard Viney, Oliver and Gawn say something like he is the one they are turn to and are listening to.  When he says something seriously, players know to take it seriously. 

Lewis is fast-tracking their finals experience and development that may otherwise have taken several years to learn/experience.   It would be more trial and error than a clear road map on what to do. We might just get to the big dance earlier than many expect!!.

What a great right-hand man for Goodwin particularly in September.  And role model for players.

He's definitely showing great leadership and imparting his experience onto our young playing group. It's exactly what we need, and exactly what we recruited him for.

I hope once his playing days are finished that he joins our coaching staff. He's a smart operator and commands respect from the players. He'll go on to be a successful coach IMO.

He has performed well enough but I understand he is reaching the end. His experience will be valuable in September. 

What surprises me are the crazy calls to sack him, Bernie or Jones and never bring them back.  I can only assume the calls are being made by people who want to pick JKH, Garlett, and Bugg, because the IRS no one else to replace them!

 

In an ideal world, in 2019: 

-Tyson retains his form and Viney recovers fully and Jones plays nearly all weeks, plays a handful on the forward flank and perhaps,  if we are injury free,  needs to play a few at Casey. 

-Hunt comes on and Lever comes back,  leaving Vince and Lewis to fight for a spot when we are injury free. 

 

But until we have another player demanding their spots, they'll keep going.

Every player makes mistakes in a game.  If you looking for it in one player, it’s very easy to find it. 

Lewis has been fantastic the last 2 weeks and his experience will be invaluable next Friday night.

On land and ology, we have tended to laud players who play well when it doesn't count or when the victory is relatively easy.  He hasn't played well at all in most of our losses for mine.  Lets see what happens on the wide expanses of the G, against the best teams, when the stakes are highest.  Surely, they will play through his opponent and/or drag him up and beat him home.  If he is an on-field liability in the next stanza, his experience counts for nothing.

If he plays well in the next 1 (or more) finals, I will be happy to admit I was wrong.

His 300 game against the Crows in Adelaide was his best to date, we were on the back foot early when the crows kicked the first 3 goals, we were shell shocked.

He then dobbed one from 50 and another shortly after, it lifted the troops enormously.

His pin point razor precision is going to be huge in september. His last month has been excellent, he can definitely smell that September ambience in the air.

Mainly due to my pure dislike of him at Hawthorn 

I still think he stunk it up badly against Geelong and failed to full fill the the roll he’s being well paid to do

But his last two weeks have very good 

Hope he makes me eat my words over the next few weeks

and forgets trying to be the He man he thought he was when he had Hodge and Ruffy to back him up

Have a look at his first marking effort on the southern stand wing.  Not setting physical examples despite the 'leadership' mantra.

His kickout in the 3rd should have cost us a goal too.

 

 

Even when Geelong were coming in parts of the last, he gave Kelly a bit too much room.

 

 

We were a 13 goal better side tonight.  Their entries were small, slow and indirect.  You can applaud him on tonight.  A good footy mind wouldn't.
