Should have given the benefit of the doubt to the guy actually playing the ball, rather than the one playing for the BS free kick.

Yep. Absolutely.

Which is the worse look? The guy desperately punching the ball over the line under perceived pressure or the guy who quickly gives up a gettable chase waving his arms in the air at the umpire appealing for the free kick?

It seems that every new rule is being gamed by the players.

Was interesting to hear the discussion prompted by Pendlebury's comments on the third man up rule and the confusion it is causing.

On a different note ... have they changed the 10 metre rule... I thought I noticed a few opposition players running through the protected space last night and no penalty was given. Of course it could have been the television angle

Precious memories for him.

Not sure the Pies starting 0-2 is that unexpected.

I think we'll see Adelaide, Bulldogs, GWS, West Coast and eventually the Swans in the top 5. The rest of the top 8 is up for grabs.

He's conceded a score in a close match. Isn't that penalty enough? Bull [censored] rule.

Why on a Saturday night do we get Brisbane v Essendon. Yes I know it's a Brisbane home game and they deserve to be seen on free to air but I'd rather have seen todays game played tonight or Geelong and nth. Not going to bother watching except maybe in the last few minutes if Brisbane look like winning, which would be a miracle.

Yep, I agree with Roosy. That is possibly the worst call I've ever seen. Inexplicable.

Would love to see Gawn v Jacobs at the moment. Jacobs has killed Vickery around the ground. Absolutely murdered him.

I just can't see how he came up with in the back, that umpire shouldn't be umpiring AFL If you can't get basic decisions like that right, shoukd be demoted

I'm still baffled as to how an AFL standard umpire could make a decision like that.  I know we all make mistakes, but that's something I'd expect to see at Under 18 level in the local leagues.  Just a mindbogglingly bad decision.

nah, they've just stopped enforcing it.  For the moment.

Adelaide half backs have started storming through the centre square now though. Even with that Poppy goal, Adelaide are on top here.

Hawthorn lack the leaders. Hodge is so slow and keeps turning it over.

Really like Roosy as a commentator too. Those three years back in the game have given him the feel for it again. I felt just prior to joining Melbourne he wasn't as up with it anymore. That's not the case now.

With this new “Nomination for the ruck” thing, surely the opposing team’s ruckman must be notified as to who he’s actually up against before the ball up happens. Jacobs didn’t have a clue his opposing ruck would be Rioli; he still thought it was Vickery.

She's like many Hawthorn people I know. Doesn't really care what happens, but if they win is happy to say "Go Hawkers".

I thought that was fair. Rioli nominated. Clever by the Hawks. But pathetic defending at the top of the square though. Hilarious!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
