It was, another good session of ball movement drills

Frost, Garlett, King, White, Wagner in rehab group

No VDB, JKH

Tyson, Jetta and Kent all looking sharp hoping to convince coach

Same with Watts

The speed and accuracy of some of the ball movement good to watch

Hogan and Brayshaw my standouts

How was Garlett moving? I'm hoping he can get up for round 1.

Must have been be a pretty bad hammy if he misses Rd 1. He did it feb 18.

Is Ben Kennedy back in full training? Still think he can still play an important role for us.

Viney was out there and training although not sure he did the full session, happy to be corrected though.

Ben Ken was also out there which was good to see. I'm also curious about Frost, looks in ripping shape but only running up and down the wing and didn't see him do any ball work once again. Any insights?

I feel Watts was Watts, skilful, laconic, the usual.

Jeffy is fine, was running freely chasing kicks from Frost, hence telling me was fine when he did it, he has 3 weeks and he was zipping around today

Wagner was also back running at mearly full pace

Frost is another one who gives nothing   not sure what issue is

BenKen did whole session same with Viney

Got to welcome Mr Whelan back, was watching training, been in a good paddock

Watts was Watts   still think it was his effort in Intraclub

It's been made clear that Watts was underdone when he returned.  Just because you and others couldn't notice a difference doesn't mean he came back in the condition required.

Hibberd injured? Achilles? On crutches?

Channel 7 M Stevens says yes Achilles soreness, likely to miss round 1 and Watts a starter for the game against the Weagles.

Didn't notice Hibberd at training, that means nothing these days, thought maybe indoors

Disappointing about Hibberd, but at the same time he looked very undercooked vs Carlton. One wonders whether he would've been an asset or liability.

Melksham on the other hand looks much more primed for round 1

No it hasn't, only by you and a couple of others on here, I have watched him since October, and the only difference I noticed was at the Intraclub where he sat back

I look at it positively Saty.... I would take it as a compliment if players failed to answer my questions or gave me misleading answers. It would mean we as a club are tight lipped, even to the most regular track watchers.

I went along from about 10.30ish. Missed Frost. Spoke to Garlett who said he is back in full training next week, was doing run throughs and looks fine, Kent was in full training and is probably a week or so ahead of Garlett, if there is a choice between them.

Watts looked fine as he has all pre-season. I am also in the camp that thinks he is hard done by. If you saw Suckling in the Dogs second pre-season game he had love handles! Goodwin says we'll get back "a very good player" when he returns, well he already is a very good player. He has been a top track worker over the years and this year is no exception, I'd be [censored] if I was him, getting dragged through the media again, but Jack just keeps bouncing back, he is a very resilient character. Anyway sorry I got distracted. He will play Thursday as reported above so hopefully all this can once again be put behind him.

Tyson is back and should play Thursday, looked good.

Jetta was in fine form and will take Hibberd's place in Perth I would think. He trained very well, never beaten and always hit his targets when he had the ball, which brings me to Melksham. I think Jetta helps free up Melksham to attack and get off his player and up the ground a bit as he was doing in the match sim.

Kent needs a few games to get back to full fitness, came back with a bit of pud and with his injury has never got to full throttle this pre-season. May play Thursday.

Johnstone keeps impressing me. He has something, I think he's a good pick up.

They are working hard with Joel Smith. With especially Frost who was terrific in the intra club the last time we saw him and Wagner and now Hibberd out our depth is being tested for the third tall defender. Joels disposal is not great but he attacks the ball. Pederson who looks a bit out of favour used mainly as a back up was played in defence today.

Suckling lives near me and could barely walk his dog 100m over the offseason. Even after Christmas. Had an obvious issue with one of his legs. Surprised he is playing this early after what i have seen to be honest. Any love handles he has is a seriously unfair comparison to Watts' condition.

I'm worried about VB, ankle surgery over the long break and now he's back hobbling around again.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
