Similar criticisms were given to Jones when he took over. They might even still apply now.

It's just one guy but I've heard Viney has been great for Petracca, whom the Saints labelled as difficult when the passed on him in the draft. Similarly Jones has been really good for Brayshaw, even if he was probably the easier one to mentor.

I don't think Viney's perfect, but if he's ready to take on the responsibility and be accountable for his mistakes sharing the job might just be perfect.

Disgraceful decision.  Viney is too young and surfs too much for him to be co-captain.

If not for missing a string of games through injury Viney would be a back to back best and fairest winner. Talent shouldn't have a huge bearing on leadership, but I think performance is an important factor and I think it's fair to say Viney is our best performed player over the last 2 years. That's worthwhile considering.

Nick Maxwell and Tom Harley would agree with this part...

By the sounds of things Jones had no idea it was going to happen.

that would not be good.

Of course he wouldn't have been expecting it, but it's not like we've forced him in to stepping aside, or premature retirement.

I'd trust that Goody approached the situation very delicately, as with the utmost respect the Jones.

Sen just said the six man leadership group had been announced and Lewis was in it but didn't mention any others

It's already been on the website for a few hours.

Captains: Jones and Viney

Leadership group: Lewis, T McDonald, Gawn and Vince.

Don't like them pushing Viney into the role so soon. Seems a bit of a slap in the face to Jones. Would've preferred Jones stay sole captain for another 2 years with Viney as Vice and then taking over. Congrats to Viney anyway, he's a legend.

I'd have preferred they wait another year before doing this, but what do I know?

NJ is always going to sound proffesional about the situation, he's a real team oriented fellow.  I can't discern his inner feelings from this, he'll do whatever's best for MFC.

The weight of 50+ years of expectation from premiership drought will be easier lifted with two captains raising the cup.

Great move. Congrats Jack Viney on the promotion, and well done chunk on maturely accepting you are an even greater leader by not feeling like you've got to go it alone.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
