Good on the fella, but I don’t think there has ever been a much more underwhelming form line up forward for someone to debut with.

Heres hoping he can clunk a few and kick a few, but realistically I think after dropping Weideman they’d backed themselves in to a corner with Tim Smith now being injured.

Keep eyes on Buxton, too. Ready to go ...

No expectations.

But seriously, if he can’t bag 6 on debut he shouldn’t be on the list.

He does have an incredible vertical jump - and good hands at this stage of his career. These two qualities can only get better, more refined and more appropriately utilised, no doubt, as experience and good development take shape.

It is wise to remember that some of the very good - to - sublime markers and aerialists were not talls, did not run miles onfield, and had limited speed. They didn't even have Dec's physical involvement skills, either, yet proved to be dynamic forwards because of good coaching.

Two that come to mind:

  • Tony Modra, 188 cm, 93 kg
  • Warwick Capper, even shorter and much lighter

Jurrah was excellent in a short career, he came and went like lightning - he was so fast! He could run a bit as well - all day. I also think he might have been taller than suspected, over 190 cms but it was well-hidden with his 50kg frame. Overall, yep, monoccular, another forward star outside the physical profiles preferred so often, today. To ram home a point: whaddabout the Wizard, Leigh Matthews, etc., etc.

There is something special about a debut. Some players just fit in at the top level and there is a chance Dec has a great game and will have a career. Bloody exciting. And Drunkn being open lets us in so we feel like we know him already!

Go Dec, smash it!!

For once we have a debutant that has had a great apprenticeship in the VFL (60 odd games). It’s a pity our other debutantes  haven’t had such a good grounding. I wish him every success on Saturday.

We are going today so looking forward to Dec debuting for the Dee’s, we hope he has a good one drunken167

Go Dee’s...........!!!!!!!!

I liked Keilty’s game today. I’ve never seen him at VFL, but his ruckwork was sound and he’s pretty mobile for a big guy. Keeps his spot for mine.

I’ve watched him quite a few times at Casey and have always felt he has something different to say Omac or Weideman in that he doesn’t drop his head if things aren’t going his way.

Strong pack marks and excellent field kicking to the right position are his strengths at Casey

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
