Id put it down as inertia. The momentum will have dropped off after the Hawks. Will all but come to standstill after Crows.

Thats not negative nancy, just a 'what is '

41 or thereabouts a sterling effort by the deluded faithful.

Time for the well paid to start repaying that faith or it'll slide back quicker than a rat down a drainpipe.

The additions at Sunday's game were held over for reporting this week bb.

I'm tipping 42,500 by the close of counting this year. Especially if we can win the next 3.

"Figure out Aussie Rules footy"

Enjoy a uniquely Melbourne experience with an afternoon of AFL at the MCG!

Aussie Rules football is a huge part of Melbourne’s sporting culture, and the mighty Demons (Melbourne Football Club) want you to catch the fire! They’ve organised an AFL familiarisation event for uni students who are intrigued, but can’t quite make sense of, the game – or just looking for a fun and active way to spend a Sunday.

Come along to a Footy 101 workshop, starting with a game intro, an active session on the field, then head over to the MCG to watch the Round 9 game between the Dees and North Melbourne, enjoy some ‘traditional’ footy fare, and a beer if you like. ALL FREE.

Sunday 21 May
Arrive from 11.45 for a 12-1pm hands on session:
Gosch’s Paddock (Corner of Punt Road and Olympic Boulevard, East Melbourne)
www.mopt.com.au/about/sports-precinct/goschs-paddock/

Register to attend:
www.melbournefc.com.au/fans/engaging-melbourne

Looks like the football club is trying to attract international university students as this was posted on the University of Melbourne home page. Could this be the way we end up cracking 45k next year?

I've thought for a long time they could tap into this, especially at Melbourne Uni. Think they did something similar with a Lions game a couple of years back (maybe 2010?)

It's a great way for overseas students/travellers to "assimilate" as much as I hate the connotations of that word. Sport gives people a commonality.

Who are the people waiting til round 9 to sign up??? Are they jumping on in the hope of finals tickets? I don't get it.

Anyone who doesn't have their membership pack ready to go by Christmas is bizarre to me.

Some might have to wait for financial reasons. Or haven't been in Melbourne til now?

Or like you say are jumping on the bandwagon, pure and simple

I'm all for assimilation, regardless of "connotations"

Good initiative from the club, although I must admit I'm one of the minority who thought the China thing was worth pursuing.

I'm an MCC member, so my membership is nothing more than a donation.

I'm not rushing out to get one by Christmas.

Back in that day i too thought the China thing had merit. Maybe non Premiership point games might still have a place. There's a huge untapped market amongst those 'travelling' through for 4-5 years and they might help disseminate the joys of our game, and so why not try to harness some of that for us, but here in Oz.

Some just need convincing. I can buy that.

Good initiative by the club to do this footy 101 idea. I hope the club gives them a scarf or something to wear, once you give someone your teams colour it's hard for them to look at anyone else.

A few beers at Gosch's paddock and I wouldn't make it to the G.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
